The Cross Monastery (Tivari Church) was built in the late sixth century AD, where Christianity was introduced into Georgia in the fourth century, where Saint Nino first erected the cross. The great Russian poet Lemontov wrote the famous poem "Child Monk". The church contains portraits of San Nino and a huge wooden cross called San Nino Cross, attracting a large number of believers to make a pilgrimage. The monastery is located on a rocky hilltop near the ancient city of Mzheta, overlooking the intersection of the Kula and the Aragvi rivers and the ancient city of Mzheta.
