Shenzhen—Dongmen Old Street A place worth visiting for food, drink, fun, and shopping
A place worth visiting. Every city has its iconic commercial pedestrian street, like Chengdu's Kuanzhai Alley, Shanghai's City God Temple... These places are not only rich in history and culture but also embody the unique characteristics of the city.
In Shenzhen, that would be Dongmen Old Street.
Many people think of Dongmen as just a place to buy clothes, but I believe that's the essence of Shenzhen.
Here lies Shenzhen's first McDonald's, once the battleground for 'venturing into the sea' of the 'drifters' of the 70s and 80s, and the starting point for many to build their dreams from nothing.
Of course, Dongmen is not just about clothing, nor is it limited to the pedestrian street; it is a commercial area composed of many large shopping malls centered around the pedestrian street.
Old Street is always crowded, and every photo is full of people, with internet celebrities live streaming, tourists, snacks, gold, clothes, shoes, both high-end and affordable.
The architecture on Old Street is quite retro, great for taking pictures, with buildings like Wenhua Building, Siyue Academy, and Yue Ming Building all being very impressive. Personally, I think: it's really a great place to stroll around, you can spend a long time here, it's very large, with food courts, clothing cities, entertainment arcades, and more! You can spend a whole day without any problem.
Address: Dongmen Commercial District, Luohu District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province
The commercial street is very popular, there are many snacks, shops, and many live broadcasters dancing on the street. It is a bit noisy, but it is very lively, grounded, antique architecture and modern atmosphere are integrated together, and I see a big cockroach, and a huge clock, which is quite distinctive. It took almost three hours to take parents and baby to stroll around and eat.
Dongmen Old Street, Dongmen Old Street, Luohu District, Shenzhen, full name is Shenzhen Dongmen Commercial Pedestrian Block, north to Lixin Road, south to Shennan Road, east to Dongmen Middle Road, west to Xinyuan Road, the total area of 17.6 10,000 square meters. The roots of ancient Shenzhen are in Nantou Old Town; The roots of modern Shenzhen are in "Shenzhen Xu". This "Shenzhen Xu" is commonly known as "Dongmen Old Street". Dongmen Old Street truly records a history of Shenzhen city development. Dongmen Commercial Street is a witness to the historical stage of modern Shenzhen, an integral part of Shenzhen's historical and cultural accumulation, and is the root of Shenzhen people.
Dongmen Old Street can be said to be the "root" of modern Shenzhen, Shenzhen's older commercial pedestrian district. Tens of thousands of shops are densely packed, and various buildings stand next to each other. For a long time, "East Gate" has become a banner of Shenzhen's business and trade industry, reflecting and guiding Shenzhen's consumption trends and fashion. The East Gate has always been a popular place, with shops and snack bars gathered, very lively. Old street east and west squares have a set of bronze bells, each morning and evening ring once, has become the symbol of the East Gate.
Because of the epidemic in the past few years, I have not come back to the East Gate. This time I passed the East Gate. It is completely new. It is completely different from the East Gate for more than ten years. It feels like the combination of Taipei Ximending and Shilin Night Market. It is recommended to go to the East Gate 👍.
Food! Food! Food! Dongmen Pedestrian Street is a great place to meet friends, walk around and eat tons of snacks! For the more adventurous eaters, they even have some stalls which sell bugs. The street is also filled with clothing stores, tea shops and much much more. It can get very crowded during holidays. Oh! And did I mention, the food is cheap!
