What travelers say:

Xi'an Revolutionary Park is located on the north side of Xi'an West Fifth Road, covering an area of 150 mu. It was founded in February 1927 to commemorate the soldiers and civilians who died in Xi'an on the eve of the Northern Expedition War. At that time, a mound was built in the park, and a martyr's shrine and a revolutionary pavilion were built for citizens to commemorate. The stone of Taihu Lake in the fountain in front of the revolutionary pavilion is a palace relic of the Tang Dynasty. In the spring of 1926, on the eve of the Northern Expedition, Liu Zhenhua, with the support of Zhang Zuolin and others, gathered a unit known as "100,000" in an attempt to capture Xi'an to expand the territory of Beiyang warlords. Liu Zhenhua besieged the city in August, set fire to 100,000 mu of wheat fields outside the city, and forcibly dug a 3-kilometer broken ditch around the city to force the whole city's soldiers and civilians to surrender. The generals of the National Army, Yang Hucheng and Li Huchen, led the whole city's military and civilians to defend Xi'an. Later, General Feng Yuxiang's army entered Shaanxi and smashed Liu Zhenhua's conspiracy. It is called "Two Tigers Guarding Chang'an". During the defense of the city, about 50,000 people died, accounting for a quarter of the population of the city at that time. In February 1927, in memory of the dead soldiers and civilians in Xi'an, Feng Yuxiang led the public to build a revolutionary park, built tombs, and established martyrs' shrines and revolutionary pavilions for citizens to commemorate.
