In a word, Hongcun Ancient Village is beautiful. Despite being much busier and more touristic compared with nearby Xidi and Lucun villages, Hongcun still remains well worth a visit - especially if you can take the time to explore every nook and cranny, every winding alleyway or even extend your exploration away from the crowds and into the countryside that surrounds it. Of course, visiting Moon Pond is a must, but I think the real beauty lies in the entry way to the village, where a long pathway seems to float above the water leading to an entry point of the village. If you have the time to enjoy a leisurely stay, then you might want to splurge on Zhang Mansion - a beautiful old-style hotel that extends fantastic hospitality to all their guests - from welcome snacks and tea on arrival, to complimentary fruit, tea and a proper tea set for use in the room and sparkling water in the room, on top of a very generous breakfast of congee plus a whole load of trimmings!
