Nice hotel and we were upgraded to a superior room. Nice bathroom and toiletries. The rooms can get pretty hot when it’s sunny.

The room is clean but the twin beds are small. It has kettle in the room bur no slippers.

The apartment was more spacious than we imagined, more than enough room for 2 adults and 2 children. Very clean and the laundry room was an extra bonus. Location was directly on 1 walking distance to restaurants, grocery store, black sand beach, etc. staff was very helpful even when we had a late check in. I’d highly recommend this place as a stop over between Golden Circle and Glacier Lagoon!

Hotel Katla is located a few miles outside Vik. There is a central building that houses the restaurant and a number of separate buildings with guest rooms. There is an outside hot tub and a small lake. The rooms are good quality and spacious. The breakfast room is large and the breakfast was fine although we often had wait for items that had run out to be topped up. There is plenty of parking on site.

malgré un lieu sympathique et un personnel accueillant, nous avons vécus une mésaventure qui nous a laissé un gout amer. Coincé à l'extérieur de l'hôtel a notre retour de notre chasses aux aurores boréales suite a une coupure d'électricité. nous sommes rester environ 30 minutes dehors sans pouvoirs joindre personne. heureusement une cliente de l'hôtel nous a remarquée et a fini par nous ouvrir. une fois à l'intérieur j'ai essayé à plusieurs reprise le numéro qui était disponible à l'accueil mais rien à faire nous resté dans le noir. Au matin nous avons demander au personnel de nous faire rentrer en contact avec la direction, qui n'a pas daigner se montrer. au delà de l'inconfort occasionné cela pose un problème de sécurité majeur. en effet la porte électrique qui ne fonctionne pas lors des coupures de courants est indiqué comme une sortie de secours. nous déconseillons ce lieu.

Great location and beautiful building! Plenty of bathrooms and showers - although at peak times only cool water was available in the shower. The bedrooms were well equipped but way too hot on a sunny day. Be aware that the rooms have no locks and there is no place within the shared rooms to lock up your belongings, although there are lockers in the hallways. The bar has nice but expensive drinks. Surprisingly not social for a hostel with a bar - there were a lot of families and groups seemingly staying.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It’s quiet, only about 7 rooms. The girl working when we arrived is just the nicest and so hardworking. She was a huge help the day we arrived running our drenched clothing through the dryer for us. We will be forever grateful for that. Rooms are very spacious and clean. It’s sorta middle ground, not a fancy place by any means, but also a step above basic. Breakfast was lovely and included freshly scrambled eggs. They have great blackout curtains for blocking the never setting Iceland sun. There did seem to be a bit of a funky drain smell in the bathroom at times that wafted. Location was great for getting to Vik, black sand beaches, glacier hike, etc.

Our family of 4 wanted to stay close to the Black Sand Beach, and make our own meals, so we decided to stay at the Puffin Hostel. The hostel is an older building, and has everything on the 1st floor; dining with plenty of seating, kitchen with a tall refrigerator & a couple of ovens with stove tops, sinks, separated showers & bathrooms. The room we had was on the 2nd floor (1st floor was common areas), and a small water closet was next to our room. In our room was hot (a window can be opened), and 2 bunk beds with towels and linen are present. Not many sockets on the wall, but we were prepared with double usb phone chargers. A grocery store is nearby & gas station (No man pump) & the Lava Show was a 5 minute walk from the hostel. Puffin hostel is in a good location, has a normal road (no gravel/dirt), plenty of parking, so if traveling the Ring Road on a budget, and VIK is on the travel itinerary, then here for 1 night works.
