Taiwan Arrival Card Guide: How to Fill Out the Online Immigration Form
Planning a trip to Taiwan? Whether you’re dreaming of bubble tea in Taipei 🧋 or catching sunrise at Alishan 🌄, there’s one important thing to do before you land — submit the Taiwan Online Arrival Card (TWAC). 🛂
I just got back from Taiwan recently (yes, the food was amazing!), and I want to share everything I learned about the arrival process to help fellow Malaysians breeze through immigration. Here’s what you need to know 👇
📄 What’s TWAC?
TWAC stands for Taiwan Online Arrival Card. It’s a mandatory online form that all foreign visitors — including Malaysians — must fill in before arriving in Taiwan.
It was introduced by Taiwan’s immigration department to simplify arrival procedures and reduce paper-based forms at the airport. While the paper version still exists for now, TWAC will fully replace it from 1 October 2025.
🔍 Here’s what the TWAC is in simple terms:
A digital form to be completed within 3 days of arrival, collecting your:
- Full name
- Passport number
- Flight number
- Accommodation address in Taiwan
Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a QR code — show this at immigration when you land.
🧾 Is TWAC a Visa?
Nope! Malaysians can visit Taiwan visa-free for up to 30 days, but TWAC is still required.
TWAC is not a visa — it’s a separate document that records your travel details for immigration purposes.

👥 Who Needs to Submit the TWAC?
If you’re a Malaysian citizen visiting Taiwan for tourism, business, or visiting friends/family, you need to submit the TWAC — even if you’re visa-exempt.
This applies to all foreigners arriving by air who:
- Do not hold a Taiwan residence permit
- Are staying short-term
- Plan to enter through a Taiwanese airport
📝 How to Fill Out the TWAC
💻 Option 1: Online (Highly Recommended!)
Visit the official site: https://twac.immigration.gov.tw/ or https://niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw
✅ Step 1: Choose Language
Select your preferred language: English, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.
(Most Malaysians use English or Chinese.)
✅ Step 2: Fill in Personal Details
Provide:
- Full name (as in passport)
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Nationality (e.g. Malaysia 🇲🇾)
- Passport number
- Passport expiry date
✅ Step 3: Enter Travel Details
Fill in:
- Purpose of entry (e.g., tourism, business, visiting relatives)
- Flight number (arrival to Taiwan)
- Arrival date
- Port of entry (e.g., Taoyuan International Airport)
✅ Step 4: Enter Your Taiwan Address
Provide the address of where you’re staying in Taiwan:
- Hotel name and address
- Or friend/relative’s home (if applicable)
💡 Use your booking confirmation to copy & paste the hotel address correctly.
✅ Step 5: Provide Contact Info
Input:
- Mobile phone number (can be Malaysia or Taiwan number)
- Email address (you’ll receive confirmation here)
✅ Step 6: Submit the Form
Double-check everything, then click Submit.
📧 You’ll receive a confirmation email — sometimes it includes a QR code, but it’s mostly for record purposes.
✅ Step 7: Screenshot or Save Confirmation
📸 Take a screenshot of the final page or confirmation email — just in case you’re asked at immigration (though it's not always required).
🛬 Option 2: At the Airport
Still possible for now, but not ideal. Taiwan airports may still provide paper cards, but with long queues and limited staff assistance. Starting October 2025, the paper option will be discontinued — so better to do it online!

🕒 When to Submit the TWAC?
You can submit the TWAC up to 72 hours (3 days) before arriving in Taiwan.
I submitted mine two days before my flight, and it literally took less than 5 minutes on my phone!

Excellent and very friendly service throughout my entire stay from doorman to concierge to front desk to housekeeping to restaurant to gym. Great location next to Shandao temple MRT and within walking distance to Taipei station, nice restaurants, cafes and the famed Fuhang soy milk. I also enjoyed the excellent lunch buffer at the hotel restaurant Kitchen 12 at incredibly reasonable price. As a 5-star hotel, I don't think they should be promoting self check-in kiosks. A 5-star hotel should provide the expected service, not tell me to use a self check-in machine – I might as well book a 3-star hotel then. And if the self check-in machine wasn't bad enough, it even had problems. Check-in was supposed to start at 3 PM, but when I arrived at 4 PM, it said my room wasn't ready yet? Then I had to go back to the front desk to sort it out. If the machines are so unreliable, why not just let guests check in at the front desk?
Furthermore, before checking in, I specifically requested a high floor, and the hotel even replied that for my room type, the highest floor available was the 29th, which shows they saw my note. Yet, upon check-in, I was assigned the lowest available floor, the 12th. I had to request a change again to get moved to the 18th floor – it's just speechless.
And to top it off, I can overlook the lack of toothbrushes and toothpaste, but shouldn't a room at least come with two bottles of mineral water as standard? I know there's a water dispenser on every floor, but I'm a tourist. Do you expect me to carry a bottle around everywhere? There's a limit to how 'eco-friendly' one can be.DariHK$ 468

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Hotel. If possible, I highly recommend booking a window-side room in the main building. The view is amazing—you can watch planes taking off and landing at Songshan Airport while also enjoying a beautiful view of Taipei 101. The service was pretty good; I didn't touch my luggage after getting out of the car. However, I didn't have many needs or encounter much service to begin with. There were a lot of Japanese staff members... both times I checked in and out, they were Japanese women, and I struggled to understand their Chinese. Maybe they should stick to speaking Japanese... The room was a bit old but perfectly fine, standard for a five-star hotel. Two large brass keys offered the ultimate vintage experience. They're still practicing 'eco-friendliness' by shifting costs to guests, providing a sanitary bag which was genuinely inconvenient since I was on my period. The bathtub wasn't great; at 1.72m, I just barely fit in, it wasn't spacious at all, and it only had one faucet, no adjustment. No slippers or disposables, but I loved the scent of the three bath products. The welcome fruit was a bit of a joke; the welcome pastries, however, surprised me at first, coming in such a large wooden box. But then I thought, how is this different from being handed a random pile of wedding candies? I couldn't eat it all anyway. It was annoying that there wasn't a three-pin socket by the bed to charge my phone's dual Type-C ports; only the desk had two, one 110V and one 220V. Directly opposite the window was just a regular vintage residential building, but there was a distant view of Taipei 101, which was a pleasant surprise.
The public areas exuded old money charm... The underground Regent Galleria is a high-end mall... I'd never seen one inside a hotel before, quite an experience. There were also many dessert shops. For me, zero appeal, zero shopping capability. The design of the restaurant or banquet hall near the lobby was a bit poor, with many steps and no accessibility facilities, still very vintage. There was a piano and cello performance in the pool at the bottom of the building in the evening.
P12-15 The good reviews for this place really come down to nostalgia and food, I guess. I hadn't booked breakfast, but after seeing so many positive reviews, I quickly added it. It was $968 per person. Open from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM, with the last seating at 9:30 AM. I went at 9 AM, and it was mostly full, so it's clearly very popular. The variety was indeed rich, with many ********* specialties, and the taste was decent, though not amazing. Apart from the service and breakfast being standard, my personal experience felt more like 4.5 stars.DariHK$ 1,086

Great service and location, but an absolute nightmare of a stay

I booked this hotel for a one-night trip to Taipei for a concert—just me, alone, excited to see my idol. Unfortunately, the stay itself was a total nightmare.
Let me start with the positives: the service is excellent—knowledgeable, quick, and polite. The location is also perfect, with a direct path from the Taipei MRT station to the hotel, and you can reach Taoyuan Airport in under an hour. There's even a water machine in the corridor, which was handy for getting hot water.
But that's where the good ends. The hotel is shockingly old—worse than any dilapidated hotel in Hong Kong at a third of the price. For what I paid, I did not expect this level of neglect.
I couldn't book a single or double room, so they gave me a room with three beds. I lay down on the first bed furthest from the window and soon felt itchy—I suspect bed lice. The other two beds near the window seemed fine, but that's already unacceptable. And the blankets were so thin I felt completely insecure—like there was nothing protecting me.
The bathroom was a disaster. Hair on the wall, a small dark spot in the bathtub, and no hairdryer. The toilet barely flushed—I had to press the button multiple times, and the toilet paper just wouldn't go away. As for the shower—I've never seen anything like this in 40 years of traveling. Not even in mainland China hotels I visited as a kid with my grandparents. The knob was super loose and barely functional. Turning it to the hot water side did nothing—no water came out. Slightly turning the other way (still on the red hot side) gave only cold water. I could not get hot water at all. At breakfast, I overheard Japanese ladies complaining about the exact same issue. Unbelievable.
There were also zero amenities. They hide behind ”eco-friendly,” but in Japan, you can still ask for supplies. Here, I didn't even have tissue paper in the room—I had to go back to the toilet to get toilet paper.
I couldn't take a proper shower. I feel so dirty and uncomfortable. Truly a nightmare. I would never recommend this place to anyone.DariHK$ 523

The hotel is located near to the Zhongxiao Dunhua station (exit 3) and walking distance from Ming Yao Department Store, Taipei Dome, Songshan Cultural and Creative Park and National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall. There are also many convenience stores within the vicinity and famous donut stores nearby. During our stay, we travelled by foot from the hotel to Pokemon Center Taipei, Taipei 101 and even to Linjiang Night Market.
The room is spacious. There are bathtub and shower in our room, but due to the law in Taiwan, please prepare your own toothbrush and toothpaste. There are also luggage weighing machine and coin-laundry machines in a small room on the floor where they serve breakfast. While not to expect a widespread of choices, I think their breakfast selection is a decent combination of local dishes and western options. Special mention that their pineapples are very sweet!
If you are interested, you may also check out over the counter on the selection of local products that can be ordered and delivered to the hotel. It may save you trouble to locate some of the famous brands in Taipei.

We couldn’t have stayed at a better location.

The Hollywood King Room had a really big and comfortable bed! We stayed for three nights. The toilet was a TOTO, and the wet/dry separation was a big plus! The hotel's location is super convenient, very close to Ximending Pedestrian Area. The only issue was on the first night, we had no cell signal, which led us to take a wrong turn after exiting the subway. The closest subway exit is the Underground Street - X6, and exit X5 has an escalator. We ended up having to take a taxi. The hotel's name is also hard to spot at night. Enjoyed our stay at Miramar - room was clean and big with most facilities we needed (toiletries not provided due to them being more sustainable but was told you can purchase/request from front desk); the shampoo, bath soap and conditioner provided was one of the best I’ve tried for hotels. The gym although felt a bit cramped was decently equipped (had a smith machine too) and while I didn’t use it, there was an onsen bath as well with good facilities and 2 separate pools. Buffet breakfast had a good range of cuisines, a noodle/omelette station that’s made to order; especially enjoyed the variations in some of the dishes provided across the days. I personally feel that this hotel is in a very 'local' area. How do I put it? It feels like living alongside ********* people, surrounded by their daily lives. The night market is 'right next door,' and the entire street downstairs is filled with everyday shops, markets, and food stalls that cater to locals. It's a bit far from Taipei Main Station (over 1km), but about a 10-minute walk to Shuanglian MRT Station. The hotel staff are all great – from the front desk gentlemen and office ladies to the cleaning staff and canteen employees, everyone is polite and has a good attitude.
