Taiwan Arrival Card Guide: How to Fill Out the Online Immigration Form
Planning a trip to Taiwan? Whether you’re dreaming of bubble tea in Taipei 🧋 or catching sunrise at Alishan 🌄, there’s one important thing to do before you land — submit the Taiwan Online Arrival Card (TWAC). 🛂
I just got back from Taiwan recently (yes, the food was amazing!), and I want to share everything I learned about the arrival process to help fellow Malaysians breeze through immigration. Here’s what you need to know 👇
📄 What’s TWAC?
TWAC stands for Taiwan Online Arrival Card. It’s a mandatory online form that all foreign visitors — including Malaysians — must fill in before arriving in Taiwan.
It was introduced by Taiwan’s immigration department to simplify arrival procedures and reduce paper-based forms at the airport. While the paper version still exists for now, TWAC will fully replace it from 1 October 2025.
🔍 Here’s what the TWAC is in simple terms:
A digital form to be completed within 3 days of arrival, collecting your:
- Full name
- Passport number
- Flight number
- Accommodation address in Taiwan
Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a QR code — show this at immigration when you land.
🧾 Is TWAC a Visa?
Nope! Malaysians can visit Taiwan visa-free for up to 30 days, but TWAC is still required.
TWAC is not a visa — it’s a separate document that records your travel details for immigration purposes.

👥 Who Needs to Submit the TWAC?
If you’re a Malaysian citizen visiting Taiwan for tourism, business, or visiting friends/family, you need to submit the TWAC — even if you’re visa-exempt.
This applies to all foreigners arriving by air who:
- Do not hold a Taiwan residence permit
- Are staying short-term
- Plan to enter through a Taiwanese airport
📝 How to Fill Out the TWAC
💻 Option 1: Online (Highly Recommended!)
Visit the official site: https://twac.immigration.gov.tw/ or https://niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw
✅ Step 1: Choose Language
Select your preferred language: English, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.
(Most Malaysians use English or Chinese.)
✅ Step 2: Fill in Personal Details
Provide:
- Full name (as in passport)
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Nationality (e.g. Malaysia 🇲🇾)
- Passport number
- Passport expiry date
✅ Step 3: Enter Travel Details
Fill in:
- Purpose of entry (e.g., tourism, business, visiting relatives)
- Flight number (arrival to Taiwan)
- Arrival date
- Port of entry (e.g., Taoyuan International Airport)
✅ Step 4: Enter Your Taiwan Address
Provide the address of where you’re staying in Taiwan:
- Hotel name and address
- Or friend/relative’s home (if applicable)
💡 Use your booking confirmation to copy & paste the hotel address correctly.
✅ Step 5: Provide Contact Info
Input:
- Mobile phone number (can be Malaysia or Taiwan number)
- Email address (you’ll receive confirmation here)
✅ Step 6: Submit the Form
Double-check everything, then click Submit.
📧 You’ll receive a confirmation email — sometimes it includes a QR code, but it’s mostly for record purposes.
✅ Step 7: Screenshot or Save Confirmation
📸 Take a screenshot of the final page or confirmation email — just in case you’re asked at immigration (though it's not always required).
🛬 Option 2: At the Airport
Still possible for now, but not ideal. Taiwan airports may still provide paper cards, but with long queues and limited staff assistance. Starting October 2025, the paper option will be discontinued — so better to do it online!

You can submit the TWAC up to 72 hours (3 days) before arriving in Taiwan.

Hotel lobby was under renovation, hence it was noisy, luckily they helped us change to our room that is further away from the renovation noise. I booked this hotel because of the swimming pool. I really enjoyed my stay at Caesar Metro Taipei and would definitely stay here again on my next trip.
The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable, and it was always nice coming back to the hotel after a long day out. The bed was comfortable too, and overall the room felt like a proper place to rest and recharge.
The location was also very convenient for getting around Taipei, with the train station nearby and plenty of food options around the area. Despite being in a busy part of the city, the hotel itself felt comfortable and relaxing.
The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and everything was generally very fuss-free. I especially appreciated the comfort of the hotel after some very long days during this trip.

Taipei Garden Hotel is very good hotel clean and good service. If you come from Taoyuan International Airport you can use rapid train to Taipei Main Station (purple one). Then take Taxi to the hotel is very convenient. The cost only about 120TWD it’s depend on the traffic.The hotel a bit far from MRT station the nearest is Xiaonanmen and can walk to Ximending. Some hotels give you a room. Shangri-La Far Eastern, Taipei gave us a base for a trip we'll talk about for years. From the moment we walked in, the place felt considered, elegant without being cold, warm without losing its polish. That balance is rare, and it set the tone for everything that followed.
Traveling with kids changes what matters most in a stay, and this hotel understood that instinctively. My children felt safe here, genuinely safe, the kind of safe that let them run ahead in the lobby and laugh without me flinching. Security throughout the property was excellent, present but never intrusive, the kind of quiet competence that lets a family actually relax instead of staying on guard.
The location did the rest. Close enough to walk to some of Taipei's best food, the kind of meals that turn into stories you tell later, and near enough to the city's main sites that our days felt full without ever feeling rushed. Every outing started and ended easily, which meant more time enjoying Taipei and less time managing logistics.
Back at the hotel each evening, the rooms were spacious, immaculate, and quietly luxurious, the kind of space that makes you want to slow down. Staff treated our kids with the same warmth and respect they showed us, which matters more than most hotels realize.

I loved my time at the Grand Hotel. It's rich in history and spotlessly clean, and the staff were kind and polite throughout. This is probably the most cost-effective hotel in Taipei. The room size is decent, but it's definitely showing its age. There was a stale, sweaty smell in both the room and the hallway. The executive lounge service was excellent, no complaints there. However, the front desk service on the first floor was absolutely terrible. An elderly lady couldn't hear what the staff member was saying, and the short-haired staff member repeated herself several times with extreme impatience, then threw things and rolled her eyes, which was quite disgusting. Hotel Papa Whale in Ximending is a good, quiet, original hotel for short stays, a 7 minute walk from the busy streets and ”The Red House”. I got this room for 1.125 NTD a night. But make sure you ask for a ”Double Elegant Room” on the third floor. The room I was first given on second floor smelled damp. I did not try the hotel dining or breakfast but you can walk from inside the hotel straight into a Starbucks for breakfast. The rooms have a unique, rough but elegant vintage industrial look with good size wall mounted TV, comfortable beds and nice three piece bathrooms with good water pressure. I had a pleasant stay at ILLUME TAIPEI and overall it was a good experience. The hotel is in a very convenient location, close to Taipei Arena MRT station, restaurants, convenience stores, shopping malls, and supermarkets. It is easy to travel around Taipei by MRT or Uber, making it a great base for both business and leisure trips.
The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The bed was comfortable, and the Wi-Fi connection was stable throughout my stay. I also liked the gym and swimming pool facilities, which were well maintained. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful whenever I had questions.
A useful tip for future guests is that Taiwan has reduced the use of disposable amenities for environmental reasons. Bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, comb, and other personal toiletries, as they may not be provided in the room. There are plenty of convenience stores nearby if you need to buy anything.
There are many good food options within walking distance, including local ********* restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and night market snacks. Taipei Arena and nearby shopping areas are also worth visiting, especially in the evening.
One issue I noticed was that the bathroom or toilet had a slight unpleasant smell at times. It would be great if the hotel could improve ventilation or perform more frequent maintenance to eliminate the odor. Everything else in the room was satisfactory.
For Trip.Best, I think hotel rankings would be even more helpful if they included verified guest comments about cleanliness, noise level, bathroom condition, nearby transportation, and whether disposable amenities are provided. More accurate information about hotel promotions, nearby attractions, and special packages would also improve the booking experience.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay at ILLUME TAIPEI and would consider staying here again because of its excellent location, comfortable rooms, and friendly service.Dari€ 103

Pros: Big room and great location right next to public transit and ximending. Hotel lobby and dining looks nice and clean. Cons: carpets in hallways have really old, huge stains. We found a cockroach in our room around midnight crawling by the vents on the ceiling. We couldn't reach it so we tried to call reception and the phone was busy for a good while. We finally went down in person to ask for some help and they said they would send someone in 10 minutes. Half an hour later we checked in again and just asked for a new room at this point since the roach had crawled into the vents and we didn't know when it would come out again. They finally sent someone to our room while we were packing and sprayed the room with a liquid that supposedly kills roaches. He targeted the vents where we last saw the roach, and a few minutes later the roach came crawling back out. Luckily our guy was still in the room and he caught it for us. We decided not to change rooms since we were leaving soon anyway. Who knows if the roach had a family up in the vents or not. The hotel is a bit dated, which wasn't exactly what I had hoped for, but I was aware of it when making the reservation. Naturally, I would have preferred more modern facilities; however, the excellent service, convenient location, and outstanding breakfast buffet more than made up for it.

Hygiene: There's a magnetic sticker on the door, so you can request daily cleaning. The housekeeping staff are incredibly efficient; the room was sparkling clean by the time I finished breakfast.
Facilities: The room isn't small, and the window offers a view of Ximending street. It has a smart TV for screen mirroring, so you can watch Netflix and YouTube. The bathroom has a separate wet and dry area. Disposable slippers are provided, but not disposable toothbrushes, toothpaste, or shower caps. The soundproofing is good, but the air conditioning fan is too loud, even on the lowest setting. The breakfast menu changes daily and is mostly Western. Free drinks and snacks are available from afternoon to evening.
Environment: It's right next to Ximen MRT Station, and there's a bus stop nearby that goes to almost all city attractions. Ximending is just around the corner, very lively at night with lots of food options. Downstairs, there's a Hello Kitty themed 7-Eleven, an Animate manga store, and a Family Mart.
Service: The front desk staff are all very patient and enthusiastic, with excellent service attitudes. Free luggage storage is available.

I have visited Taiwan four times, and each time I have chosen to stay at City Suites Taipei Nandong. Everything about this hotel continues to exceed my expectations—from the wonderful staff and convenient location to the cleanliness and overall hospitality.
During my stay back in May, I accidentally left behind a pair of reading glasses. When I returned several months later, I asked about them, knowing that after so much time they might no longer be there. I spoke with Tiffany at the front desk and gave her a detailed description of the glasses.
To my surprise and delight, Tiffany went above and beyond to locate them, and my glasses were found and personally delivered to my room!

One of the most pleasant stays we’ve had in Taipei! Fullerton is a great 4 star hotel that clearly beats some 5 stars hotels we’ve previously been in. Location is super convenient since close to Daan MRT station, the view on 101 is nice and the walk to there is super enjoyable. Room was super comfy, clean and cosy, and we were even offered a complimentary late check out which is always much appreciated. Free coffee machines and snacks are nice to enjoy in the beautiful lounge next to the lobby. Breakfast buffet is very good and has a lot of variety. A Serious Failure in Management and Guest Service
I have never experienced this level of poor service and lack of management oversight at a hotel.
Throughout my stay, I had to repeatedly request housekeeping, yet my room was still not cleaned as expected. More seriously, there was even an occasion when I needed to use the bathroom and discovered that there was no toilet paper available.
I immediately brought this issue to the attention of the front desk. However, despite making a formal complaint, the exact same problem occurred again the following day.
At that point, this could no longer reasonably be considered a simple oversight or an isolated housekeeping mistake. The hotel had already been made aware of the problem, yet nothing appeared to have been done to prevent it from happening again.
The most disappointing part is that these issues continued until the day I checked out. After repeatedly reporting the same problems without seeing any meaningful improvement, I eventually stopped complaining simply because I no longer believed that doing so would make any difference.
A hotel may occasionally make a mistake — that is understandable. What is unacceptable is failing to correct a problem after a guest has already brought it to management's attention. This reflects a serious breakdown in communication between departments, inadequate supervision, and a lack of accountability at the management level.
Basic housekeeping and essential bathroom supplies are not unreasonable requests. They are fundamental standards that guests should be able to expect without having to repeatedly chase the hotel for them.
What concerns me most is that the hotel appeared to have multiple opportunities to correct the situation, yet failed to do so. This suggests that the issue is not simply with an individual staff member, but with the way the hotel’s service operations are being managed and supervised.
This experience seriously damaged my trust in the hotel and left me with a very negative impression of its overall management and service standards. A hotel’s reputation is built on how it treats guests, especially when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, in this case, the hotel failed not only to deliver basic service, but also to respond effectively when those failures were brought to its attention.
I sincerely hope management does not dismiss this as a minor housekeeping issue. The repeated nature of these problems, combined with the lack of effective follow-up, represents a significant management failure and can seriously damage guest trust, customer satisfaction, and ultimately the hotel’s reputation.
For me, the most disappointing part was not that a mistake happened. It was that the hotel was given multiple opportunities to fix it — and chose not to.Dari€ 35
