Taiwan Arrival Card Guide: How to Fill Out the Online Immigration Form

Gambar Profil Penulis

Planning a trip to Taiwan? Whether you’re dreaming of bubble tea in Taipei 🧋 or catching sunrise at Alishan 🌄, there’s one important thing to do before you land — submit the Taiwan Online Arrival Card (TWAC). 🛂

I just got back from Taiwan recently (yes, the food was amazing!), and I want to share everything I learned about the arrival process to help fellow Malaysians breeze through immigration. Here’s what you need to know 👇

📄 What’s TWAC?

TWAC stands for Taiwan Online Arrival Card. It’s a mandatory online form that all foreign visitors — including Malaysians — must fill in before arriving in Taiwan.

It was introduced by Taiwan’s immigration department to simplify arrival procedures and reduce paper-based forms at the airport. While the paper version still exists for now, TWAC will fully replace it from 1 October 2025.

🔍 Here’s what the TWAC is in simple terms:
A digital form to be completed within 3 days of arrival, collecting your:

  • Full name
  • Passport number
  • Flight number
  • Accommodation address in Taiwan

Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a QR code — show this at immigration when you land.

🧾 Is TWAC a Visa?

Nope! Malaysians can visit Taiwan visa-free for up to 30 days, but TWAC is still required.

TWAC is not a visa — it’s a separate document that records your travel details for immigration purposes.

🛃 Why Is It Important?

✅ Speeds up your immigration process
✅ Helps Taiwanese authorities process travelers faster
✅ Prevents paperwork at the airport
✅ Will be mandatory from October 2025 onwards

👥 Who Needs to Submit the TWAC?

If you’re a Malaysian citizen visiting Taiwan for tourism, business, or visiting friends/family, you need to submit the TWAC — even if you’re visa-exempt.

This applies to all foreigners arriving by air who:

  • Do not hold a Taiwan residence permit
  • Are staying short-term
  • Plan to enter through a Taiwanese airport

📝 How to Fill Out the TWAC

💻 Option 1: Online (Highly Recommended!)

Visit the official site: https://twac.immigration.gov.tw/ or https://niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw

✅ Step 1: Choose Language

Select your preferred language: English, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.
(Most Malaysians use English or Chinese.)

✅ Step 2: Fill in Personal Details

Provide:

  • Full name (as in passport)
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality (e.g. Malaysia 🇲🇾)
  • Passport number
  • Passport expiry date

✅ Step 3: Enter Travel Details

Fill in:

  • Purpose of entry (e.g., tourism, business, visiting relatives)
  • Flight number (arrival to Taiwan)
  • Arrival date
  • Port of entry (e.g., Taoyuan International Airport)

✅ Step 4: Enter Your Taiwan Address

Provide the address of where you’re staying in Taiwan:

  • Hotel name and address
  • Or friend/relative’s home (if applicable)

💡 Use your booking confirmation to copy & paste the hotel address correctly.

✅ Step 5: Provide Contact Info

Input:

  • Mobile phone number (can be Malaysia or Taiwan number)
  • Email address (you’ll receive confirmation here)

✅ Step 6: Submit the Form

Double-check everything, then click Submit.

📧 You’ll receive a confirmation email — sometimes it includes a QR code, but it’s mostly for record purposes.

✅ Step 7: Screenshot or Save Confirmation

📸 Take a screenshot of the final page or confirmation email — just in case you’re asked at immigration (though it's not always required).

🛬 Option 2: At the Airport

Still possible for now, but not ideal. Taiwan airports may still provide paper cards, but with long queues and limited staff assistance. Starting October 2025, the paper option will be discontinued — so better to do it online!

I chose the Howard Plaza Hotel for my conference, as the venue was at the Taipei International Convention Center, right next to 101. Personally, I had a good experience. Although it's an 8-9 minute walk to the MRT station, it's only two stops away from the convention center. The hotel's facilities are a bit older overall, but there were no issues with the experience itself.

We stayed for a week this time, and every day we had to ask housekeeping for extra large towels because we showered twice a day. It wasn't until the last day that housekeeping asked if we needed extra towels. Also, when we checked in, the shampoo and conditioner were empty, and they hadn't replaced them. We had to call for them to be refilled. This is our third stay at this hotel, don't they keep records of guest preferences?

Ideal Location and Exceptional Service. Situated in the Wanhua district, the hotel boasts a prime location with close proximity to the TRA railway station and convenient walking access to the Metro line. This was my second stay with my family of four. While my initial double-bed booking (based on a satisfactory previous visit) was decent, I submitted a request for a complimentary upgrade. To my delight, upon check-in, we were assigned the highest floor level, receiving a significant upgrade to a spacious room with a separate living area and an excellent view. I highly recommend this hotel and plan to stay here again on future visits to Taipei.

The location is great — about a 10-minute walk to Ximending. However, the soundproofing isn’t very good. Also, when we were sleeping at night, we felt like we encountered something… unusual. It felt like we were being disturbed throughout the night, which made the stay quite uncomfortable.

The room was clean and tidy, the hotel decor was elegant, the surroundings were beautiful, and the facilities were quaint and refined. The service attitude was excellent. The secret passage under the hotel was particularly impressive; the guide was humorous, witty, and knowledgeable, making the tour a memorable and enlightening experience.

I really like the Regent Taipei. It feels quite grand, and even though it's an older hotel, it's very well-maintained. The golden key for the room door is a cute touch! The location is also excellent; you can walk to Zhongshan Station and Ningxia Night Market. The buffet breakfast offers a great variety of local snacks, and the restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating, making for a comfortable dining experience. The service is also top-notch. I'll definitely stay here again on my next trip to Taipei!

A few things in the hotel made me feel a little in Japan instead of Taiwan: - yukata available for use - bidet with seat warmer - LOTS of Japanese food options around (in the basement of the hotel as well as the Eslite building next to it) The staff are polite and friendly. Little/no problem with English but they have dedicated staff who can speak Korean and Japanese. We had the 2 double beds in the room to accommodate 2 adults and 2 toddlers (<5yo). The room was spacious (about 33sqm) compared to the other hotels nearby. This time round, the room decor feels a bit more modern. It has the necessities (safe deposit box, water kettle, some mugs, tea and coffees). Mineral water is provided but there are also water dispensers are on the gym floor and another floor. The laundry room (only 1 washing machine and 1 dryer, both coin-operated ) is clean. Dryer can dry the clothes in 1 round. Detergent is free for use. However, there is no view from the room (we can see the other rooms from our room). Location is directly above the red & blue Taipei Main Station MRT and directly opposite the High Speed Rail station . The hotel is connected to the MRT and the HSR station via the basement but there is a stairs (about 15-20steps) so it’s not so stroller-friendly). Overall, we love the hotel and would come back if we visit Taipei again.

I had stayed in a different Green World with decent experience. But this place had rather snarky service staff which threw me off because I always had good customer service in Taiwan. The lobby and entrance is also shady like a backdoor. The soundproofing was terrible. The room next door is separated from me by a false wall so I could hear the baby crying and the family in it having a three generation discussion. I won't want to come back. The saving grace is the toilet which is quite huge and ironically, better sound insulated from the room than the next door is to mine.

Perhaps one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in! The location is incredibly convenient, just a 10-15 minute walk from Ximending station, making it easy to explore the area. The room was spacious and well-appointed, complete with complimentary bottled water. I appreciated that the housekeeping staff cleaned the room daily, provided you didn’t activate the ‘do not disturb’ button. The hotel features a unique underwater or submarine theme, which adds a fun and immersive atmosphere. I booked a room without windows, and while the lighting was somewhat dim, it created a cozy ambiance that I found quite pleasant. The receptionists were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, always ready to assist with any inquiries or requests. A thoughtful addition to the hotel is the luggage scale available for guests, allowing you to weigh your bags before checking out—definitely a great touch! We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet, which I would rate a perfect 10/10! There was an impressive variety of food options, including a delightful hotpot selection. The bathroom facilities were well-designed, with the toilet and shower room separated for added convenience. They provided complimentary body wash and shampoo, and I was pleased to see that the bed sheets were changed daily, ensuring a fresh and clean environment throughout my stay. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for its excellent location, friendly service, and thoughtful amenities!

Stayed here for 5 nights. Everything was great, rooms were equipped with necessary amenities and lots of hanging spaces. Toilet, shower and sink are separated, which was a nice touch so you won't have to fight for it. Toilet was also equipped with a bidet (major plus!). Drinking and hot water are readily available on each floor, and the hotel also provides kettle and a jug to fill. Price is reasonable and overall it was a great stay!

I had a wonderful stay at the Renaissance Taipei Shihlin Hotel. The rooms were clean, spacious, and very comfortable, with well-maintained amenities that made my stay relaxing. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any request. The location is excellent—quiet yet close to attractions like Shilin Night Market and Chiang Kai-Shek Shilin Residence, and just a short drive from Taipei Songshan Airport. Dining at the hotel was enjoyable, with good options for Italian cuisine and a cozy lounge to relax in.

It was quite good. Easy to find from nanjing sanmin station, near raohe night market, easy to reach the waterfront running path, close to many 7/11s, breakfast areas and a morning market near the nanjing sanmin station. This is a locally owned hotel and, although rated as a four-star property, it feels more like a three-star international chain hotel. The staff do not greet guests proactively and tend to respond only when spoken to. Even when thanked, they often remain unresponsive, which was rather disappointing. The hotel has a distinct 1990s vibe which is dated, but equipped with all the basic facilities one might need. Breakfast was quite unappealing, and the coffee was especially disappointing as it was served from a pot rather than freshly ground. That said, the location is excellent and just a few minutes’ walk from the rail system, with plenty of eateries and convenience stores nearby. From a pricing perspective, it’s reasonable value for money, and I wouldn’t mind staying here again, provided expectations are managed accordingly.

The location of the hotel is just right in the city center. If you would like to travel by subway, it’s an easy 7 minute walk. It’s a very small hotel without pool. First room category is quite small. If you stay 2 people will be very tight, no space to walk. Breakfast is not something to expect but they have smoked salmon which is quite nice. Service is a 4-star hotel service. Overall, a good hotel to stay if the price doesn’t surge above NTD 5,000

We were very pleased with our stay at the Miramar Garden. The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The hotel is centrally located, near the Taipei Main Station, which made sightseeing convenient. We enjoyed the pool, although it was smaller than expected. The hotel offers a good buffet breakfast, with decent variety. There is also a small cafe in the hotel lobby. The hotel staff was friendly and spoke good English. The gym and sauna seemed nice as well, although we didn't have an opportunity to use them. Overall, we were very comfortable here and would stay again on our next visit to Taipei.

I've stayed here multiple times. The location is excellent, right next to Ningxia Night Market, and less than a 10-minute walk from Dihua Street and Zhongshan Shuanglian MRT Station. The rooms, though small, are clean and aesthetically pleasing. In previous stays, the soundproofing was acceptable, but this time, the guests across and next to us were a group of 'aunties' and 'uncles' who loved to leave their doors open and chat loudly until midnight, then woke us up again at 6 AM. I couldn't help but ask them if they could close their doors when talking, and they agreed, but then started again shortly after. I was speechless 😓. I understand this isn't something the hotel can control, and I can only blame my bad luck. However, perhaps the hotel could remind guests to keep quiet after 10 PM.

For the past 10 years, whenever I visit Taipei, I’d definitely book my few nights stay at Star Beauty. I wouldn’t say it’s the best but their prices were pretty reasonable with good bed and they upholds a standard of cleanliness. The nearest MRT station would be Jiantan but it’s probably a 10 mins walk. And about 13 mins walk to Shilin Night Market from hotel. Their room walkway is slightly dimmer but that’s no issue for me. Hotel surrounding has lots of convenient stores and eateries..

We stayed on the 17th floor, and the shower pressure was unbelievably low – it felt weaker than a toilet flush. I reported this to the front desk. They asked if we'd like them to send someone to check it, but it was already past 9 PM, and we had already showered. Given we were only staying one night, I simply wanted to bring it to their attention, not necessarily request an immediate fix. Whether the hotel followed up to inspect or repair it after we checked out remains to be seen, and will be for the next guest to find out. Also, the pillows were quite soft. I asked the front desk if they had firmer options. The staff member who answered the phone surprisingly asked how many nights we were staying. After I replied 'one night,' she just said, 'Oh, we only have one buckwheat pillow and one memory foam pillow.' So, we had no choice but to try those. I'm still puzzled why my length of stay was relevant to the pillow inquiry.
