Taiwan Arrival Card Guide: How to Fill Out the Online Immigration Form

Gambar Profil Penulis

Planning a trip to Taiwan? Whether you’re dreaming of bubble tea in Taipei 🧋 or catching sunrise at Alishan 🌄, there’s one important thing to do before you land — submit the Taiwan Online Arrival Card (TWAC). 🛂

I just got back from Taiwan recently (yes, the food was amazing!), and I want to share everything I learned about the arrival process to help fellow Malaysians breeze through immigration. Here’s what you need to know 👇

📄 What’s TWAC?

TWAC stands for Taiwan Online Arrival Card. It’s a mandatory online form that all foreign visitors — including Malaysians — must fill in before arriving in Taiwan.

It was introduced by Taiwan’s immigration department to simplify arrival procedures and reduce paper-based forms at the airport. While the paper version still exists for now, TWAC will fully replace it from 1 October 2025.

🔍 Here’s what the TWAC is in simple terms:
A digital form to be completed within 3 days of arrival, collecting your:

  • Full name
  • Passport number
  • Flight number
  • Accommodation address in Taiwan

Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a QR code — show this at immigration when you land.

🧾 Is TWAC a Visa?

Nope! Malaysians can visit Taiwan visa-free for up to 30 days, but TWAC is still required.

TWAC is not a visa — it’s a separate document that records your travel details for immigration purposes.

🛃 Why Is It Important?

✅ Speeds up your immigration process
✅ Helps Taiwanese authorities process travelers faster
✅ Prevents paperwork at the airport
✅ Will be mandatory from October 2025 onwards

👥 Who Needs to Submit the TWAC?

If you’re a Malaysian citizen visiting Taiwan for tourism, business, or visiting friends/family, you need to submit the TWAC — even if you’re visa-exempt.

This applies to all foreigners arriving by air who:

  • Do not hold a Taiwan residence permit
  • Are staying short-term
  • Plan to enter through a Taiwanese airport

📝 How to Fill Out the TWAC

💻 Option 1: Online (Highly Recommended!)

Visit the official site: https://twac.immigration.gov.tw/ or https://niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw

✅ Step 1: Choose Language

Select your preferred language: English, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.
(Most Malaysians use English or Chinese.)

✅ Step 2: Fill in Personal Details

Provide:

  • Full name (as in passport)
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality (e.g. Malaysia 🇲🇾)
  • Passport number
  • Passport expiry date

✅ Step 3: Enter Travel Details

Fill in:

  • Purpose of entry (e.g., tourism, business, visiting relatives)
  • Flight number (arrival to Taiwan)
  • Arrival date
  • Port of entry (e.g., Taoyuan International Airport)

✅ Step 4: Enter Your Taiwan Address

Provide the address of where you’re staying in Taiwan:

  • Hotel name and address
  • Or friend/relative’s home (if applicable)

💡 Use your booking confirmation to copy & paste the hotel address correctly.

✅ Step 5: Provide Contact Info

Input:

  • Mobile phone number (can be Malaysia or Taiwan number)
  • Email address (you’ll receive confirmation here)

✅ Step 6: Submit the Form

Double-check everything, then click Submit.

📧 You’ll receive a confirmation email — sometimes it includes a QR code, but it’s mostly for record purposes.

✅ Step 7: Screenshot or Save Confirmation

📸 Take a screenshot of the final page or confirmation email — just in case you’re asked at immigration (though it's not always required).

🛬 Option 2: At the Airport

Still possible for now, but not ideal. Taiwan airports may still provide paper cards, but with long queues and limited staff assistance. Starting October 2025, the paper option will be discontinued — so better to do it online!

The decor looks a little dated and old especially compared to other 5 star hotel we have stayed in (Grand Hyatt). But the room is spacious and clean. And the price is just right. We got the city view, a small extra but we think it’s worth it compared to the interior view. Location is great, a short walk from the MRT station.

There's construction on one side of the hotel, and the old windows don't close properly, so diesel fumes from the crane wafted directly into the bedroom. Not to mention the noise from the building work – imagine driving a car without air conditioning, stuck behind a diesel truck constantly spewing exhaust fumes. The result? A headache that required painkillers. Luckily, Trip.com was great and got me a room change. The mattress is very soft, so if you prefer lumbar support, you should reconsider. The family with kids next door was very noisy, and the front desk promptly moved me to another room. The transportation is very convenient, with the MRT station just a two-minute walk away. The hotel lobby is like an MRT platform, bustling with people – from young to old, student groups to limping seniors, all attending some event. It's the opposite of quiet. If you enjoy crowded fairs, you might like the lively atmosphere. Even checking in took about 10 minutes.

This is my third or fourth time staying here in the last two years. The location is perfectly located in the heart of Wanhua District and there are many historic places one can visit. I really enjoyed exploring the neighborhood for local delicacy, many of them have been there for many years and are recognized by the Michelin guide. Normally my complaint would be the elevators. They were usually slow but not this time. May be because of right after the Chinese New Year and not too many tourists are staying here. I’m sure it will be busy again very soon.

”Loved the vibe of this hotel! 😍 The design is super modern—especially the bathroom with the marble vanity and high-tech bidet (always a win!). The bedroom had cool artistic touches like the Ximen Red House print and unique metal wall art. The mood lighting made it feel super relaxing after a long day. Clean, stylish, and comfortable. Would definitely stay again!”

Location is excellent. The hotel sits between 2 subway stations therefore making going around the city very easy. We had rented a car and was able to park for free during our stay. The mall next to the hotel is very convenient as we were able to pick up simple wardrobes and traveling essentials.

Great experience here at this 75 year old property. They have a new and an old wing. I had a peaceful and restful stay in their horizon prestige room. Would definitely recommend it as the view is one of the best in Taipei. The shower pressure for hot water is super super strong and good. And the view of the planes landing and taking off is something unique. Did not get breakfast, so not sure how the food is. But easily this is one of the best places to stay in Taipei if you’re looking for a local hotel experience.

Stayed at the Regent for our 20 year anniversary. The room was very clean, perfect temperature, and they offered a welcome snack. There weren't any personalised welcomes unfortunately but the room was great. They no longer offer disposable bathroom amenities like toothbrush, toothpaste, cotton, combs, hair brush etc, you need to bring your own. We had the pleasure of enjoying Tai Pan Lounge. They are open 24/7 for tea and coffee but offer snacks during breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a specific period. We also enjoyed the spa. They don't have communal wet facilities, only in the room, so your time there is limited depending on the treatment you booked. They do have a health and fitness club in B3 though where you can enjoy such facilities at your leisure. We had our anniversary dinner at Robins Grill and it was perfect. Service was amazing, food was exquisite, and the vibe was so pleasant. Definitely coming back to Robins Grill, it was our second time there! Overall, our stay was beautiful and we didn't want to leave.

The location of this hotel is great as is situated directly opposite Taiwan Station. Many undergone shops connected directly from hotel elevator. Within walking distance to shin kong mitukoshi mall and many eatery nearby the hotel. On a side note - hotel running on thin manpower. Front office quite clearly shortage of staff and no proper direction which counter for check-in and check-out. Some of the staff onsite in suits does not marshal guests around. they simply stood there even the traffic was really heavy over the weekend. From my observation, room service seems like manning with minimum manpower to serve and run a hotel with 400 rooms capacity. ? Over in laundry room - for a designated hotel with 400+ rooms > only has 1 washing machine and 1 dryer. This need to be improved. Everyone were queing and we need to run backforth many times. Remember hospitality industry is to serve with a HEART. The room was spacious and clean but we noticed the paint on our room ceiling was half done - joke aside we were wondering they run out of paints.

I had a great stay at Papa Whale Hotel in Ximending, Taipei! Before my trip, I emailed them with a few questions, and the staff responded promptly every time. When I arrived a bit early before check-in, I could comfortably wait in the lobby, which was really nice and cozy. The staff were super helpful and spoke English very well. The hotel’s location is fantastic—right in Ximending, close to the night market and within walking distance to convenience stores, the MRT, and lots of great spots. It’s a popular place for tourists, so it tends to be fully booked often. I also opted for the breakfast buffet, which was really convenient. They had a good variety of dishes, including some nice shabu and other options, so I didn’t have to go out hunting for food in the morning—definitely worth it. The price overall was quite reasonable and good value for what you get. As for the room, I chose a basement room, which was actually quiet and cozy. The bed was comfortable, and I slept very well. The bathroom was nice, and the lighting was good. The housekeeping staff cleaned the room every day and always asked for permission politely if I was still inside—really considerate. While the room wasn’t super large, it was modern and clean. If I needed anything extra, the staff were always happy to help. It’s a short walk to the main Ximending walking street, and once you get used to it, it’s really convenient. Plus, there are lots of nice spots for photos if you like taking pictures. Overall, I slept really well and had a great experience. I’d definitely stay at Papa Whale again if I have the chance! 🩵

I had an excellent stay at the Grand Hyatt Taipei. The location is unbeatable—right next to Taipei 101 and in the heart of the Xinyi district, making it so convenient for sightseeing, shopping, and dining. From the moment I arrived, the service was warm and attentive. The lobby is beautiful and welcoming, and the staff always greeted me with a smile. My room was spacious, very clean, and well-designed, with a comfortable bed and a great view of Taipei 101. Housekeeping kept everything spotless during my stay. Breakfast was another highlight—the buffet had a wide variety of delicious choices, both Western and Asian, and everything was fresh. I also appreciated the hotel facilities, especially the gym and pool, which were well maintained. Overall, I highly recommend the Grand Hyatt Taipei for anyone visiting the city. It truly delivers a luxury experience with comfort, excellent service, and perfect location. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Taipei.

Excellent location that is just across the street from the famous walking streets Ximending! The staff were all very courteous and kind. Our two single beds room had adequate space for our suitcases. Hairdryer, mini fridge, nice shower and japanese toilet. Appropriate room decor. Comfortable bed, large TV, two daily water bottles. 5th floor had a clothes area for washing, drying and ironing. Breakfast had enough food for people to find their fill. Light happy hour in the evening... I would definitely consider staying here again as we enjoyed it and it offered great value. My only downsides were that the walls were a bit thin. Also the hallway noise carries into the room too. And when the AC is on, it is very bright red illuminating the room. The blackout curtain didn't close 100%. But I had an eye mask and ear plugs so it wasn't a problem.

Renaissance Taipei Shihlin Hotel offers truly impressive 5-star service with professional and friendly staff who are always willing to help. The check-in and check-out process is smooth and efficient, making the whole stay very comfortable. The rooms are modern, spacious, very clean, and well equipped with everything needed for both business and leisure travelers. Housekeeping does an excellent job of keeping the room spotless and tidy every day. The breakfast buffet is delicious, with a wide variety of international and local options that are constantly replenished. The location is very convenient, close to Shilin Night Market and the MRT, but still quiet enough for a relaxing stay. Facilities such as the rooftop pool, fitness center, and lounge area give a real luxury resort feeling. overall, it was an average experience. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and quiet, with surprisingly good soundproofing that made it easy to rest. I also appreciated the in-room coffee machine, which was a convenient touch for a quick morning pick-me-up. However, being located in the basement made the room feel a bit dark, and the bathroom facilities could be more modern, as the toilet was not a washlet. The breakfast offered was quite limited, and the service left something to be desired. While the staff were present, they did not proactively check on guests or offer assistance, and there was little interaction or friendliness. Simple gestures like greetings, smiles, or help with luggage were missing, which made the overall experience feel less welcoming. Additionally, during breakfast, food was cleared promptly at the set time without asking if guests were still eating or wanted more, which could have been handled more thoughtfully. On the positive side, the hotel provides the essentials for a short stay, and the rooms are quiet and functional. For travelers prioritizing comfort and a clean environment, this hotel is acceptable, but I feel that improved hospitality and more attention to guest experience would make a significant difference. Service really matters in hospitality, and it’s the area where this property could improve the most.

This is a locally owned hotel and, although rated as a four-star property, it feels more like a three-star international chain hotel. The staff do not greet guests proactively and tend to respond only when spoken to. Even when thanked, they often remain unresponsive, which was rather disappointing. The hotel has a distinct 1990s vibe which is dated, but equipped with all the basic facilities one might need. Breakfast was quite unappealing, and the coffee was especially disappointing as it was served from a pot rather than freshly ground. That said, the location is excellent and just a few minutes’ walk from the rail system, with plenty of eateries and convenience stores nearby. From a pricing perspective, it’s reasonable value for money, and I wouldn’t mind staying here again, provided expectations are managed accordingly.

The location of the hotel is just right in the city center. If you would like to travel by subway, it’s an easy 7 minute walk. It’s a very small hotel without pool. First room category is quite small. If you stay 2 people will be very tight, no space to walk. Breakfast is not something to expect but they have smoked salmon which is quite nice. Service is a 4-star hotel service. Overall, a good hotel to stay if the price doesn’t surge above NTD 5,000

Had a very pleasant stay overall! The room was spacious and comfortable, and the front desk staff were genuinely helpful and friendly throughout our trip. However, the on-site laundry facilities were a bit of a letdown and felt misleading. The instructions suggested automatic detergent dispensing, but none was provided during our wash cycle — we ended up rinsing clothes in 70°C plain hot water, and they still came out smelling stale (needless to say, not ideal!). The dryer was another issue: it has a ‘cool off’ period of about 6 minutes every cycle, interrupting the drying process. If you insert NT$10 coins one at a time, you’d only get around 4 minutes of actual drying before it cools again. This wastes a lot of time and money, often leaving clothes damp. Tip for future guests: Insert 4-5 coins (NT$40-50) all at once for longer continuous drying and better results. These are small fixes that could make the laundry much more convenient — otherwise, a solid hotel!

The room's cleanliness was decent, and the service was good. You can self check-in, and there's a common area where you can sit and use your laptop. I booked a standard room, and the space was alright. However, the main window faced the street, which was a night market, so the noise from traffic at night was very loud and affected my sleep. The hotel breakfast was pretty good.

I only stayed here for one night, but overall it was a surprisingly nice experience. Personnel is really nice and welcoming, the room is well equipped, the bed is comfortable. The metro station and Shillin Night Market is really close, and everything else you might need. A minor issue is that I stayed here in March and it was quite chilly in the room, but overall great value for money!
