Beijing Attraction Tickets for Foreigners: Your Passport Is the Ticket (2026)
Beijing stopped selling tickets at the gate.
Turn up at the Forbidden City with no booking and staff will wave you off. Same at Tiananmen Square. Same at Universal.
Nobody warns you before you book the flight. Tickets went on sale 7 days earlier, at 20:00 Beijing time.
Foreign visitors hold one advantage. Your passport is your ticket, no Chinese ID number needed. One channel even takes your Visa or Mastercard and bills you in MYR.
The short version
- Real-name reservations. Passport number at booking, physical passport at the gate.
- Palace Museum tickets drop 7 days ahead at 20:00 Beijing time. ¥60 April–October, ¥40 November–March. Closed Mondays.
- Tiananmen Square is free but needs its own timed booking, 1 to 7 days out.
- Forbidden City, Tiananmen, National Museum and Universal: online only. Parks and Mutianyu sell at the window.
The four channels
Beijing's attractions run on 实名预约, a real-name system built for Chinese ID cards. Foreign passports came later, and the systems handle them unevenly. Some portals accept a passport number. Others want a mainland phone number first, and mini-programs fail quietly on overseas cards. Hence the OTA.
The Palace Museum's portal (bookingticket.dpm.org.cn, from intl.dpm.org.cn) is the only place selling plain admission to the Forbidden City. There's no on-site window, and never was. Register by email with your passport details and pay by Alipay or a foreign card.
WeChat mini-programs handle Tiananmen Square and the parks, if you have WeChat Pay.
The parks system (bjgyol.com.cn, or 畅游公园) covers Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Beihai and Jingshan. Pick "Passport" as your document type. Park windows serve passport holders for cash.
Trip.com sells admission for Badaling, Mutianyu, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Lama Temple and Universal, plus guided ticket-included Palace Museum products. Foreign card in, MYR out.

Booking on the Trip.com app, step by step
Ten steps, about 6 minutes.
- Install the app, set your currency. Sign in by email and switch to MYR.
- Open Things to Do. Search "Beijing", or jump straight to the attraction name.
- Check which product you're buying. Admission-only is the plain ticket. The rest bundle a guide, car or shuttle, mostly what Trip.com sells for the Palace Museum.
- Pick the date, then the session. The Palace Museum splits morning and afternoon entry. Take the morning.
- Choose the package. Temple of Heaven's combo adds the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. Summer Palace's adds Suzhou Street. At Mutianyu, pick cable car or toboggan now.
- Tap Book now.
- Fill in traveller details. Name exactly as printed in the passport, plus passport number, nationality and date of birth. One traveller per person.
- Read the Important Information box. It says whether you get an e-voucher or a QR code, and where to meet.
- Pay. Visa, Mastercard, Amex and most debit cards go through, charged in MYR.
- Save the order offline. My Bookings, then the voucher. Bring the physical passport you booked with.
One caveat. Forbidden City admission on the official portal sells out fast. Rather than gamble on a 20:00 release, book a ticket-included product and let the operator hold it.

Mutianyu is the one Great Wall trip you can decide on the morning of. Add ¥15 for the shuttle and ¥140 for the cable car, so budget roughly ¥195. Badaling is cheaper, busier, and wants a reservation.

Absolutely stunning hotel
The hotel staff were incredibly helpful and the decor was absolutely stunning. It really does look just like the photos.
Its also easy walking distance to Wangfujing shopping street, to multiple subway lines, and to the Forbidden City. Dozens of food options right across the street too, but also several in-house restaurants and room service.
Our room was spotlessly clean, the air was fresh and clean, and the housekeeping cleaned up and replaced our towels and amenities daily.
The gym was very well equipped with commercial gym standard equipment - it doesnt open til 7am though. The swimming pool area was also lovely though we were too busy exploring Beijing and never got a chance to swim in it!
We would both, most definitely, stay with Legendale again and would thoroughly recommend to others, too. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there. We only wish we had stayed for a bit longer.DariINR 15,730

This stay at the Sofitel Jian Guo Men left me with a great overall impression.
Before arriving, I communicated with the duty manager, Eli, letting him know it was our first stay and that it coincided with our anniversary. Upon check-in, he immediately upgraded us to an Executive Floor room and had it specially decorated. The attention to detail was exceptional, and we were incredibly impressed from the moment we arrived.
The first impression upon entering was excellent. The lobby had incredibly high ceilings and a grand, bright decor, completely avoiding the oppressive feeling you sometimes get in older hotels.
The layout of the Executive Room was also quite interesting; it wasn't just a generic square box. The space was well-utilized, making it feel much more spacious than I had imagined.
The service overall was hassle-free. Whether it was dealing with the front desk or requesting room service, any issues were addressed very quickly, with no need for back-and-forth.
In the evening, I specifically went to the bar on the basement level. The bartender, Pamper, was very amiable. She asked about my preferred tastes, and the cocktails she made were perfectly to my liking.

The rooms are extremely well-maintained, and you can tell the amenities are of high quality. Overall, it was clean and very comfortable. The service was attentive and the staff were friendly. Before booking, I read the negative reviews, which were mostly complaints about the service. After staying, I felt like this hotel was one giant obedience test.
Upon entering the room, I noticed a strong smell from the air conditioning ducts. I picked up the phone and dialed 'one touch.' The operator transferred me to the front desk, who said they would get back to me shortly. 'Shortly' meant I had to call again to get any kind of answer.
After changing rooms, the next day my room card stopped working. That's when I understood why there was a phone in the hallway. After calling, they said an auntie would come to help open the door. Ten minutes later, the auntie finally arrived. After opening the door, she said a concierge would bring a new room card later. Well, it never arrived within two hours. Eventually, when I went to pick up my takeout, I had to go to the front desk myself to get a new one.
The tissues in the room ran out. The auntie replaced them with new ones, but just left the new pack on top of the tissue box instead of putting them inside. I don't understand that.
There was a short black hair in the bathtub...
The mini-bar was completely empty on the first night, possibly due to the room change.
At breakfast, I opened a Chinese steamed dim sum, and there was a black hair inside... Breakfast ended at 10:30 AM, and many guests came at 10:35 AM to get coffee, but it was all gone...DariINR 9,949

Opting for the New Otani Chang Fu Gong for my Beijing trip was a great choice; the overall stay was consistently excellent and thoughtful, truly reflecting the quality of a seasoned high-end hotel.
The service was warm and meticulous. Every day, they'd leave Beijing specialty snacks in the room – classic local pastries and treats. Coming back after a day of sightseeing to these delightful surprises was incredibly heartwarming.
The breakfast was of a high standard, with a rich variety of choices, and a distinct Japanese flair. The tender omelets, crispy capelin, and exquisite Japanese pastries were all authentically prepared. At the same time, Chinese and Western hot dishes, breads, congees, cold cuts, and braised meats were all available, catering to different tastes.
The view from the breakfast restaurant was a particular highlight. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, you could see a serene courtyard: a neatly trimmed lawn, a rock garden pond, and even white geese leisurely strolling about. The garden scenery was elegant and comfortable. Enjoying breakfast while taking in the view really helped me slow down and relax.
The guest room was clean and spacious, with a well-organized layout and good natural light, making for a relaxed and unconfined stay. The overall service was on point, and the breakfast was outstanding. I highly recommend this hotel for accommodation in Beijing.DariINR 9,393

When we arrived at this hotel, I hadn't even realized it was the one I booked until we pulled in front of the lobby. It was so nice I was amazed that it was ours for what we paid. Incredibly stunning interior and exterior. The rooms and service live up to the standard as well. Absolutely perfect stay in the northeast corner of Beijing and I do believe we will come back to stay here next time. The attendants at the front desk were incredibly helpful, especially the one guy who helped me order on dianping and put together a porridge the Beijing way. The gym was the best I've ever seen in a hotel. Stacked with equipment for strength training with a separate room for martial arts training. During this stay, I truly experienced what it means to “be amidst the bustle, yet privately enjoy luxury.” Arriving on the afternoon of the 25th, from the moment I stepped into the lobby, that grand sense of tranquility isolated me from the noise outside the window. The room was super spacious, and the floor-to-ceiling window offered an unparalleled city skyline view, with the CCTV Headquarters (the 'big trousers') and China Zun tower side-by-side. That feeling of having the imperial capital at your feet instantly made the room rate worthwhile!
I must particularly praise the Kerry Club Lounge on the 18th floor! It was truly the highlight of my entire stay! The service from Ms. Lucy, Clara, and Seanna was simply delightful, making me feel incredibly welcome. The lounge's food, whether afternoon tea or evening happy hour, offered such a vast variety that it was hard to choose. The breakfast at 'Jia Pin Restaurant' on the morning of the 26th absolutely won me over—there were 7 ways to prepare eggs alone, plus fresh grapefruit. These kinds of details are truly a huge plus!
Although I know this hotel is a representative of the 'old money' opened in 1999, the facilities are incredibly well-maintained. That sense of profound grandeur, refined by the passage of time, is a quality new hotels simply cannot replicate. The gym and heated swimming pool are top-tier for hotels in China, with huge spaces and comprehensive equipment. Even just a swim feels like a luxury.
My two-day journey in the heart of luxury left me wanting more. Not only is the location unbeatable, but the service and dining are also exceptional! This is definitely the most 'aristocratic' hotel I've stayed at in Beijing, second to none! ♥️DariINR 14,489

Today I'm on duty at work. It's scorching hot and there's no air conditioning in the office. It's really unbearable. I emergency chose this Xinqiao Hotel.
Facilities: I chose a windowless non-smoking room. The size is decent, and the facilities are quite complete. This hotel has several Chinese and Western restaurants, so dining is quite convenient.
Hygiene: The hotel's hygiene is good; it's relatively clean. I specifically chose a non-smoking room. Because it's windowless, the room is equipped with an air purifier.
Environment: It's very close to my workplace, only about two or three hundred meters away. The environment is good.

We had a very comfortable stay at Manxin Hotel Beijing Tiananmen Wangfujing (北京天安门王府井漫心酒店). The location is probably its biggest selling point — Wangfujing is just a short walk away, with all the major malls, restaurants and shops nearby. Peking Chamber is also just beside the hotel, which is very convenient.
Our room was modern, clean and comfortable. It wasn’t particularly large, but the space was well designed and had everything we needed, including a smart toilet, separate shower, mini fridge and complimentary drinks.
Breakfast was included in our stay, and the hotel also has a gym and complimentary self-service laundry facilities. There are two washing machines and two dryers, so they are shared on a first-come, first-served basis and can get busy.
Overall, a really convenient hotel for exploring Beijing. We especially loved being able to walk to Wangfujing and the surrounding malls, then easily return to the hotel to rest before heading out again. Would happily stay here again!DariINR 8,508

This five-star hotel truly delivers on luxury, providing an exceptional experience.
The location is a definite highlight – incredibly convenient for getting around. It's just a short walk to Metro Line 1 and Line 5, making transportation effortless. Step out of the hotel and turn left, and you'll find a shopping mall within 50 meters, offering a vast array of shopping and dining options that almost lead to decision paralysis, but certainly satisfy all your retail and food cravings.
The room itself was a wonderful surprise. It was incredibly spacious, bright, and filled with natural light. The floor-to-ceiling window offered an amazing view, making lounging and enjoying the scenery an absolute delight. The amenities were comprehensive, and the pillows and mattress were incredibly comfortable – I slept like a baby and woke up feeling completely refreshed.
Breakfast also deserves a mention. With a wide variety of both Chinese and Western options, there was so much to choose from, ensuring a satisfying start to each day.
The staff were consistently warm, polite, and genuinely attentive to guests' needs. Their thoughtful service truly deserves a huge commendation!

A surprisingly wonderful trip! I arrived at the hotel late at night, feeling exhausted. The gentleman at the front desk, wearing glasses, was incredibly professional and efficient. The room was spacious and bright, making for a very comfortable stay. The hotel's location is fantastic! During my stay, I visited Sanlitun, Liangma River, and Solana, not only enjoying delicious food but also experiencing the unique atmosphere of the embassy district.

We had a wonderful stay and would happily come back again! Our room was a massive hit with our toddler, and we really enjoyed the facilities. The hot springs were clean and lovely, and the little touches like the candyfloss machine and vending machines in the lobby were such a fun bonus.
The staff were a real highlight — everyone was so friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The only area for improvement would be paying a little more attention to the finer details when preparing and servicing the rooms. We didn’t have a towel for our child, and this wasn’t replenished the following day. The minibar and bathroom amenities were also not fully restocked despite being included in our package. Similarly, at breakfast, the cutlery on the tables wasn’t always replenished, so we sometimes had to look for it ourselves. These small details make a big difference, particularly when paying a premium for the stay.

The hotel boasts an elegant environment, making you feel like you have an entire mountain to yourself. Built into the hillside, the two-bedroom suite we booked this time was located mid-mountain. The hotel community has complete facilities, and the main entrance is fenced off with a gate, so the security is reassuring and makes you feel very safe.
The shuttle service uses Voyah commercial vans, which are super comfortable! The staff helped with our luggage, which was very thoughtful and attentive. It's about 10 kilometers from Badaling Great Wall, and Shuiguan Great Wall is nearby and not crowded. Juyongguan Great Wall is also conveniently located on the way to Beijing South Station, so we stopped by, making our trip even more rich and fulfilling.DariINR 13,489

First, let's talk about the service. On the morning of check-in, a concierge contacted me and added me on WeChat, asking about any special requests for check-in or if I had children. They even informed me at 12 PM that I could check in. During the busy National Day holiday, being able to check in early was quite satisfying.
The staff were all very enthusiastic. Whenever we made eye contact, they would greet me and ask if I needed any help.
Since it was National Day and the hotel was fully booked, breakfast the next day was very crowded, but the staff were quick to resolve any issues that arose.
Now, about the accommodation. It was a standard room, quite comfortable and spacious. The bedding was cozy, and the soundproofing was excellent – once the door was closed, I couldn't hear any noise from the hallway, which is worth mentioning.
Also, it was very convenient for luggage storage, shuttle bus service, hot springs, and visiting the Great Wall.
Finally, one more thing! On the afternoon of my check-in day, after climbing the Great Wall, I was napping when I heard the doorbell. After the second ring, I responded and was about to get up. The subsequent rings were very urgent. By the time I reached the door, it had already been opened by the concierge... Luckily, I had engaged the chain lock on the inside, so it wasn't fully opened. She said she was delivering water. I was very surprised by her unauthorized entry. She claimed she rang the doorbell, thought no one was inside, and then opened it, offering a verbal apology. I was groggy from sleep at the time and didn't say much else. I originally didn't want to comment on this, but the concierge messaged me on WeChat hoping for a five-star review, but frankly, I can't give five stars for this... I've never encountered someone opening my door without permission, especially after such urgent ringing... What if the guest was showering?

1. The hotel is nestled halfway up the mountain, offering fresh air and truly beautiful surroundings. Taking advantage of the weather before it gets too cold, I came here after work for a relaxing hot spring soak ♨️.
The Muyun Hot Spring is not far from the guest rooms. Although it's not a natural hot spring, both its size and the number of pools exceeded my expectations. There are also special pools like herbal baths and flower baths, perfect for unwinding and relieving fatigue.
The deluxe king room was spacious and clean 🛏️, with all the basic amenities. The bedding was also very comfortable.
The accompanying swimming pool 🏊🏻♂️ had just been maintained, so the water was exceptionally clear. The only downside is that its 15-meter length felt a bit cramped.
The hotel's only restaurant is quite large. The breakfast 🍳 variety and taste were decent, meeting average standards, and the small wontons at the noodle stall were delicious.
Overall, it was good. However, on the day of my arrival, due to traffic, I was already quite late, tired, and hungry. When checking in, I had to wait an extra amount of time because of insufficient staff at the front desk. Then, upon going to the restaurant, I was told it was already closed, despite being advertised as open until 11 PM – there was a discrepancy. Room: This time I stayed in room 2007. Last time, my friend and I stayed in 1008. The difference is that 2007 has a king-sized bed, while 1008 has twin beds. The twin room has a very hard yellow sofa by the window, whereas the king-sized bed room has a desk. So, if you want a better experience enjoying the Third Ring Road from the window, you might prefer the twin room.
35 Tang (restaurant): I was quite surprised. Honestly, I've stayed in many hotels in Beijing, but 35 Tang is truly unique in how its breakfast incorporates Beijing characteristics. And the food tastes good too. So, when booking, you might want to add breakfast. Plus, there are many tables with views of the 'Big Trousers' (CCTV Headquarters), which is really pleasant.
Gym: The 0.5 deduction in facilities is actually for 'Refinery'. I used to work nearby and had a membership at Refinery. However, during this stay, I noticed that the floor maintenance was really poor, including the equipment. But everything else, from the view to the changing rooms, is actually quite good.
Parking: You need to park at China World Mall, it's 10 yuan/hour with no cap. If you have a China World membership, you can drive out and circle around when your time is up, then re-enter to restart the billing. This can save you some money.

Breakfast: Breakfast is served on the first floor at LIQA, a Turkish restaurant. I'm not sure if it's the same team that handles breakfast and regular meal times, but the main courses, desserts, and drinks for breakfast were all excellent 👍.
Parking: To get from the parking lot to the guest rooms, you need to go to the first floor and then transfer to another elevator. There are plenty of parking spaces. Just remember to register your license plate number at the front desk; I paid almost 200 yuan the first day because I forgot.
Service: Absolutely fantastic! We received welcome fruits, desserts, a card, and drinks. There was bottled water everywhere, unopened pens, and a whole toiletry bag of amenities. The disposable hotel slippers were exceptionally comfortable, which is a rare and pleasant surprise. Housekeeping was prompt but never intrusive. They even gave my daughter the room card as a souvenir.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel for my girlfriend’s surprise birthday. The hotel kindly accommodated my request for a high floor, and we were given a room with an amazing view. However, there were several issues that I feel are important to mention, particularly when staying at a five star hotel.
My expectation was for the room to be close to perfect, but there were several visible stains on the walls and carpet, as well as dirty windows. These are details that I would not expect to see at a five star property and, in my opinion, should have been addressed before the room was given to guests.
We were also disappointed to discover that some of the restaurants, including Views Restaurant and Kempi Deli, were closed despite still being listed on the hotel’s website. We had specifically looked forward to visiting these restaurants, so it would have been helpful if the website information had been updated.
Another disappointment was the jacuzzi being closed. We had been looking forward to using it during our stay, but only the lap swimming pool was available.
We also visited Brewery@Kempinski, which itself was nice. Unfortunately, the behaviour of some of the staff made us extremely uncomfortable. I understand that we are foreigners and may naturally attract some attention, but repeatedly staring at us, making comments and then giggling among themselves was extremely unprofessional especially when it was directed at us in. It continued to the point where I had to call the staff over and address the situation directly. Only after doing so did they stop and leave us alone. This was particularly disappointing from a five star hotel.
Finally, we received a call from the hotel informing us that they wanted to give us a gift for our stay. When the butler came to our door, he presented us with traditional Chinese mooncakes. I thanked him and went to close the door, but he placed his foot against the door and then proceeded to ask for a tip.
I found this extremely inappropriate. If something is presented to a guest as a gift from the hotel, I do not expect to then be asked for money. At that point, it no longer feels like a gift; it feels as though I am being asked to pay for something that was supposedly complimentary.
Overall, we did have a pleasant stay, and I genuinely appreciate the efforts made for my girlfriend’s birthday, particularly the room, view, decorations and complimentary cake. However, I wanted to leave a truthful and honest review because these issues should not be overlooked, especially when paying five star prices. When I visited Universal Studios Beijing this time, after doing my research and comparing options, I chose NUO Hotel, and it turns out I made the right choice.
Don't let the seemingly greater distance from Universal Studios Hotel deter you; it's actually just a five-minute walk across the street.
The room was twice the size, the slippers were incredibly comfortable, and they provided ten small bottles of water plus one large bottle daily... I was truly impressed.
I bought a package that included a two-day, one-night stay + double breakfast + 1.5-day park tickets + early park access. This was absolutely worth it. Buying the tickets separately would cost around a thousand yuan, and with early access, it would be about 1,500 yuan. Deducting the breakfast cost, the room itself was effectively only a little over a thousand yuan... and it was so comfortable that I even extended my stay for another day. The extended stay didn't come with complimentary tickets, though, and cost 2,700 yuan.
If I had to point out a flaw, it would be how difficult the toiletries were to squeeze out. As someone who works in the skincare and personal care industry, I truly believe such product design shouldn't be found in a five-star hotel... What's going on? Are they trying to prevent guests from using them?

We arrived around 1:00 PM and were warmly greeted at the front desk by Mr. Zheng. Since our room was still being prepared, he immediately invited us to relax and dine in the Executive Lounge. The lounge truly made us feel the warmth of home. The moment we stepped in, Ivy (Ms. Gong) welcomed us with great enthusiasm. Learning that we hadn't had lunch yet, she promptly arranged a meal for us. Upon discovering that someone in our party was celebrating a birthday that day, she had a birthday gift delivered to our room that afternoon, and the chef thoughtfully prepared birthday longevity noodles for dinner, which deeply touched the birthday guest.
The next day, Chef Paul Yi noticed that one of us was suffering from dry, chapped lips due to the arid northern climate. He went out of his way to prepare a soothing balm and personally crafted herbal medicinal soups for two consecutive days to help her recover. We were incredibly moved—this is a level of care we have never experienced at any other hotel. Throughout our 3-day, 2-night stay, not only did Ivy and Chef Paul check in on us daily, but we were also warmly hosted by Coco and Amelia. As a supervisor, Coco is meticulous, detail-oriented, and highly responsible, and the rest of the lounge team provided genuine, hospitable service as well.

Objectively, the staff here are all very good, providing attentive and warm service. The room looked neat and clean at first glance, but that's where it ends. The pillows, they literally shimmered under the light – I was speechless and regretted not bringing disposable sheets. Around 5 AM, I got up to use the bathroom. I turned on the light, but it didn't work. I went back to the bedside to turn on the light there, and when I went back to the bathroom, the door wouldn't open. After finally getting it open, as soon as I stepped in and closed the door, the bathroom light automatically turned off. When I opened the door again, it automatically turned back on. It kept switching off and on repeatedly. After I came out of the bathroom, the sink light also seemed to be motion-activated; it would dim, then light up again when I got close. What on earth?
The main light switch isn't by the entrance; it's by the bed. It didn't bother me before sleeping, but when I woke up in the middle of the night, that display screen wouldn't turn off and was glaring. Plus, one side of the room lights kept flickering, and then there was the bathroom experience. I was utterly speechless. Traveling alone with a child, what I dread most is carrying lots of bags while holding a sleeping baby, looking so dishevelled that I don't even have a free hand to wipe my sweat. Yesterday evening, when I arrived at the hotel, Chen Shuo, one of the front desk staff, immediately came out to help me with my luggage without a word. He even lowered his voice and said, “You hold the baby, I'll take care of the luggage.” Then another front desk staff, Xiang Ke, quickly poured me a glass of water and processed my check-in. Chen Shuo helped me take the luggage to my room and settled everything. He softly left with a remark, “The baby is sleeping soundly. Sister, you should get some rest too. Feel free to call the front desk anytime if you need anything, we are always here.” Then he gently closed the door. At that moment, my eyes welled up. Passport mistakes that cost people the day
- Surname and given name reversed. Follow the machine-readable strip, not the photo page.
- A typo in the passport number. One wrong digit and the turnstile rejects you.
- Bringing a renewed passport. If you booked under the old number, the record won't match.
- Assuming a child gets in free. Parks let under-1.2m kids in free. Real-name sites want a passport and a slot for everyone.
- Two tickets on one passport. One document, one ticket.
At Universal the passport is the ticket. No paper, no standalone QR.
Paying without a Chinese card
Trip.com in MYR is the low-effort route.
Link a card to Alipay or WeChat Pay and the rules match: nothing up to ¥200, then 3% above it. Foreign cards also can't pay personal QR codes, only merchant ones.
Timing
Set an alarm for 19:55 Beijing time, seven days before your Palace Museum date, with the portal open and logged in. Beijing runs on UTC+8, the same clock as Malaysia.
Tiananmen slots, the National Museum, Badaling and Prince Kung's Palace can wait until three days out. Parks and Mutianyu, until you land.
Skip Chinese New Year (17 February 2026) and National Day week (1–7 October). Mondays close the Palace Museum and several museums.
Book the Forbidden City first. It's the one that sells out. Everything else can wait until you land.
