Types of Malaysia Visa

Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque

1. Standard Tourist Visa

  • Sticker Visa: This is the more traditional type of visa, typically a single-entry visa valid for 3 months, allowing a stay of about 30 days. Tourists must provide a passport, photo, return flight ticket, hotel booking confirmation, and other documents to apply at the Embassy or Consulate of Malaysia in China. This visa is suitable for those traveling for sightseeing purposes.
  • Electronic Visa (e-Visa): A convenient and fast way to apply for a visa online. It is divided into two categories: tourist visa and business visa. The tourist e-visa allows single entry, is valid for 3 months, and permits a maximum stay of 30 days. Applicants need to submit electronic documents such as passport details, personal photo, and travel itinerary. Once approved, the visa is issued as an electronic file that can be printed and used.

2. Transit Visa

When travelers need to transit through Malaysia on their way to a third country and their stay does not exceed 120 hours (typically), they can apply for a transit visa. To apply, travelers must provide a valid onward flight ticket, passport, and other necessary documents. Applications can be made at the transit visa counter at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and other designated locations.

3. Business Visa

  • Standard Business Visa: Intended for individuals traveling to Malaysia for business inspections, meetings, negotiations, and other business-related activities.
  • Senior Business Visa (Professional Visa): Targeted at certain professionals, such as senior managers or technical experts, to facilitate long-term business activities in Malaysia. This visa usually has a longer validity period and higher application requirements.

4. Work Visa

Issued to foreign nationals employed by local companies in Malaysia who are required to work in the country. Employers must submit relevant documents to the Malaysian Immigration Department, including employment contracts and the company’s qualification certificates, to apply for a work visa for the employee. There are various types of work visas based on job nature, position, and duration of employment, and they may require periodic renewal and review.

5. Student Visa

Issued to international students studying at institutions in Malaysia. After receiving an admission letter from a Malaysian school, students must apply for a student visa with the Immigration Department or relevant agencies using the admission letter, passport, academic certificates, financial proof (to cover tuition fees and living expenses), and other documents. The validity of a student visa typically matches the duration of the course.

6. Dependent Visa

This type of visa is mainly designed to allow relatives of Malaysian citizens or permanent residents to come to Malaysia for family reunions. Eligible relatives such as spouses, children, and parents of Malaysian citizens can apply for a dependent visa. The validity and duration of stay vary depending on the relationship. Applicants must provide relevant documents such as proof of kinship.

Validity and Duration of Stay for Malaysia Visa

Sultan Abdul Samad Building

Tourist Visa

  • Electronic Visa (e-Visa): Valid for 3 months from the date of issuance. The maximum stay is 30 days, meaning you can stay for up to 30 days after entering Malaysia within the valid period.
  • Sticker Visa: The validity is typically about 3 months, and the stay duration is usually 30 days. If you enter the country within the valid period, you can stay in Malaysia for the same duration.

Transit Visa

Typically valid for a shorter period, with a stay of no more than 120 hours (about 5 days). It is generally used when transiting through Malaysia to a third country, with the purpose of taking a short break to wait for a connecting flight.

Business Visa

  • Standard Business Visa: The validity and stay duration are determined based on the specific business activities and approval status. There are single-entry and multiple-entry options. The validity of a single-entry business visa may be a few months. The stay duration depends on the business itinerary, such as meetings, inspections, etc., and may range from a few days to several weeks. A multiple-entry business visa is usually valid for a longer period to facilitate frequent travel to and from Malaysia for business activities.
  • Senior Business Visa (Professional Visa): Valid for a longer period, with the specific duration depending on the long-term business activity plans and approval from the Malaysian Immigration Department. The stay duration is also determined based on actual conditions, such as work arrangements, allowing professionals to engage in long-term and frequent business activities in Malaysia.

Work Visa

The validity is related to the duration of the work contract. The stay duration falls within the scope of the work permit and is determined by the employer who applies to the Malaysian Immigration Department.

Student Visa

The validity usually corresponds to the duration of the course of study. For a 3-year undergraduate course, the student visa is typically valid for around 3 years.

Dependent Visa

The validity and stay duration vary depending on the familial relationship. For example, the validity of a dependent visa for a Malaysian citizen's spouse may be relatively long, facilitating family reunification, and the stay period allows the spouse to remain in Malaysia for an extended time. The stay duration for parents or other relatives can be adjusted based on specific circumstances and immigration policies, generally taking into account the closeness of the familial relationship, the financial capability of the Malaysian citizen, and other factors.

The room was quite spacious which included a king size bed. Great location considering it is next to Pavillion mall and near to MRT station too. Great place for couples. We had a genuinely awesome stay at the Royale Chulan. The hotel's fantastic location, excellent breakfast, and responsive management made our trip memorable. Highlights: Outstanding Location & Access: The hotel offers incredibly easy access to the Conlay MRT station, making it a perfect base for exploring Kuala Lumpur. It's also just a short walk down the road to Pavilion Bukit Bintang, putting you right in the heart of the action. Navigating Bukit Bintang and the Golden Triangle by foot or MRT was effortless. Fantastic Breakfast Spread: The breakfast was a real highlight. The spread was fantastic, with a wide variety of options to suit all tastes—a great way to start the day. Excellent Service Recovery: While we experienced a power outage on our first night, the hotel management handled it superbly. To compensate for the inconvenience, the manager offered us a late check-out, which we greatly appreciated.

Thank you The Face Suites for the great experience staying there. All are excellent include the view that the most important point and interesting thing to do there. The only thing need to be improved was the check in and check out process that made us uncomfortable standing ant wait for our turn more than 15 minutes. There was only one staff at the reception counter. Lastly, still recommended this hotel for their comfortable room and complete amenities. 👍👍👍

Overall it was a decent stay! But since this hotel is a reputable brand, some small details to improve would be that 1) soundproofing is not the best. You can hear your neighbours talking from inside your room. 2) The toilet flush was a little too intense, water will splatter when you flush. 3) The person who did the check-in for me was clearly untrained, he could not find my reservation, could not answer simple questions about the morning buffet such as the price of it. Thankfully, he was able to ask a colleague who was clearly more experienced and resolved the issues immediately. He also did not give me instructions on where the guest lift was. I ended up taking the wrong lift. I hope that Parkroyal can ensure that all their Check in staff are trained adequately before leaving them at the reception.

Not the best 5-star hotel that I ever stayed. The water that came out from our shower was dirty that we need to wait for 1 hour before we can use the shower. Seems like the water tank was not cleaned well maybe? The bed are also quite hard. It doesn feel loke a 5-star hotel bed. The quality of bed is like a 3-star hotel. I've stayed at other 5-star hotel brands and I have to say this is the worst 5-star hotel I ever stayed. Not gonna choose Pullman again. Not up to my standard for a 5-star hotel.

Pros: 1. Very close to KLCC. The hotel offers a shuttle service to KLCC (last shuttle at 10 PM). The LRT is on the lower ground floor of KLCC, making it very convenient to reach major attractions like Jamek Mosque and Petaling Street. You can also walk through KLCC via a sheltered walkway to Pavilion (15-minute walk, air-conditioned and covered). 2. You can go up to the 33rd-floor SkyBar for free to take photos (there might be some obstructions when photographing people). If you want to have a drink and take photos without obstructions, it's best to go between 5-6 PM and sit by the window (there's a minimum spend). Cons: 1. No Chinese-speaking staff, which is quite surprising for a well-established star-rated hotel. The Black guy at check-in had a very indifferent attitude towards Chinese guests but was all smiles for white guests. The check-in process was also incredibly slow! 2. The bedsheets had multiple footprints, the room facilities were old, and there was a musty smell. 3. The deposit is 250 MYR per night. Tips: Check-in is at 2 PM, but it can be very crowded and slow. The value for money isn't great, but the unobstructed view of the towers is a big plus. You can upgrade a standard king room to a tower view room for an additional 100 MYR per night upon arrival.

The location is excellent, the staff were super friendly and polite, and both rooms were big and comfortable. The hotel was clean. There was a strange smell in the corridor, I think because of the weather, but it did not affect our stay or rooms at all. We took breakfast, which was fair. I only wished there were gluten-free bread and lactose-free milk; the manager was helping his colleagues, which was nice to see.  For sure, I will come back again to this hotel.

The location is very convenient. This is my third time staying here, and it's a quick taxi ride to the Petronas Towers. The area is pretty quiet at night, and there's an Indian market nearby where you can find durian and coconuts at reasonable prices. The room having a Chinese power outlet is a nice touch. The only thing that needs improvement is that the bathroom doesn't have a door, so it's easy to get water everywhere.

Furama Bukit Bintang is an economy to mid-range hotel whose greatest strength lies in its unbeatable location. While the facilities are somewhat dated, it serves perfectly well as a clean, comfortable, and budget-friendly “sleeping base” for travelers who spend most of their time exploring the city. The hotel features a rooftop outdoor pool—modest in size but offering a relaxing spot amidst the bustling city—with some rooms providing sweeping views of the skyline. In terms of location, the hotel sits in the very heart of Bukit Bintang. Major shopping malls such as Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Fahrenheit 88, Lot 10, and Starhill Gallery are only a few minutes’ walk away. The famous Jalan Alor food street is just behind the hotel, only 2–3 minutes on foot, where you can indulge in a wide variety of Malaysian dishes and seafood. The surrounding area is filled with restaurants, cafés, and convenience stores, making daily needs easily accessible. Right at the doorstep is the Bukit Bintang monorail station, ensuring excellent connectivity, while the iconic KLCC is only a 15–20 minute walk.

Loved my experience at this hotel! For the price, it is an absolute steal. There is literally nothing I can complain about. It met all the standards of a classy hotel. So normal check-in is at 3pm. I got to the hotel at 10am and they gave me the room right away at no extra charge. Gee at the front desk was very helpful. The rooms are quiet, the AC works well and they have a modern shower. The gym is small but has decent amount of equipment. Pool is really nice. Laundry is relatively cheap at 4-5 Ringit per piece. Another huge plus, the location. It is so close to Jalan Alor Market, Pavilion mall and the Bukit Bintang monorail. All within 5 min walk.

We enjoyed our stay at Oakwood Hotel. The room was spacious and even came with a small living area, which made it feel extra comfortable. The toilet was large too, with a separate bathtub and standing shower. Hot water worked perfectly and the water pressure was strong – definitely a plus. There was also a pantry area equipped with filtered water, an electric kettle, and a microwave, which was very convenient. The hotel has a pool as well, though our schedule was too packed to fully utilise it. One thing to note is that the TV could use an upgrade, as the image wasn’t very sharp and the colours sometimes shifted. It didn’t affect us much since we were mostly on our phones anyway. Another minor downside is that the lift doesn’t go to B1, where most of the parking lots are, so it requires a bit of extra walking. Overall, a comfortable and well-equipped stay with great room space and facilities. Would consider returning!

Breakfast options were the same for four consecutive days, which was quite disappointing. I believe guests would appreciate more variety on a daily basis. Room service was excellent and well maintained, however the food quality needs improvement. The breakfast offerings lacked consistency and creativity, and it would be beneficial to have a more experienced chef who can propose better menu options rather than repeating the same items daily. In particular, the mee soto was below expectations — there was no shredded chicken, and the soup tasted like a plain powdered base with little flavour

This hotel is located in the city center. There's a dedicated elevator on the ground floor that takes you directly to a skybridge on the second floor, connecting the hotel to the Pavilion Mall across the street. It's incredibly convenient for shopping for items like Orchid perfume and Labubu, and there are plenty of dining options. From another skybridge in Pavilion, you can walk directly to the Petronas Twin Towers in about 20 minutes, making it perfect for a city walk. The hotel's front desk is on the 53rd floor, providing a very grand and ceremonial check-in experience. The staff are all incredibly friendly and welcoming. Overall, there aren't many rooms, so the environment is very quiet. They even offer essential oil service and turn-down service. Breakfast is served on the 58th floor with views of the Petronas Twin Towers, and the à la carte options are extensive. The pool is also fantastic, semi-open-air, and very picturesque.

I really like the hotel’s location, as it is conveniently close to the MRT station and Padang restaurant ( Rumah Makan Kapau ), Although there is no grocery store nearby, the area is still very easy to access. The room does not provide an electric kettle or complimentary instant coffee; only bottled mineral water is available. The bathroom also does not have a bidet.
