The Guangzhou Metro is one of the largest metro systems in China 🚇 — with 15+ lines and 300+ stations! By 2025, it connects not only central Guangzhou but also nearby cities like Foshan.

👉 Pro tip: Download the official Guangzhou Metro app or use Gaode Maps (高德地图) — both apps have updated maps, train schedules, and route planning.
(Think of our KL LRT + MRT + Monorail combined… but way bigger and better 😂)

How to Take the Guangzhou Metro Swipe to Enter
  • Single Journey Ticket 🎟️ → Buy from machines (English available).

  • QR Code 📱 → Alipay/WeChat Pay users can scan directly at the gate.

Navigate Inside

Follow colored signs. Each line has a unique color & number. Signs and announcements are in Chinese + English.

On the Platform & Train

Tap your card/scan QR/insert ticket. For paper tickets, the gate will swallow them when you leave.

Need to change lines? Just follow the Transfer (换乘) signs.
Some stations like Tiyu Xilu and Zhujiang New Town are massive, so expect long walks between platforms. Don’t worry — everything is bilingual.

💳How to Pay: Ticket, Metro Card & QR Code

Single Journey Ticket 🎟️ – Cheapest option if only riding once.

You can easily buy your ticket at the self-service ticket machines at Guangzhou Metro stations. The machines provide clear instructions in English - just select your destination on the touch screen, choose your payment method (cash or mobile payment methods such as WeChat/Alipay), and collect your single journey ticket. Simply swipe your ticket when entering the station and insert it when leaving. Station staff are always available to help you if needed. However, remember to keep your single journey ticket (green round coin) when you travel.

Guangzhou Metro Station Ticket Machines

Yang Cheng Tong Card 💳 – Best for multiple rides, also works on buses & ferries.

You can buy and recharge Yang Cheng Tong cards at self-service machines inside Guangzhou Metro stations. These cards require a 20 RMB deposit and can be used on the metro, buses, and ferries. Simply swipe your card at the turnstile to enter and exit. When recharging, please use cash or mobile payment (WeChat/Alipay) at the self-service card vending machine.

Here we have to talk about the current preferential policies of Guangzhou Metro: within one calendar month, if you use the same platform entrance code or the same Yangcheng Tong card to take Guangzhou Metro, bus, or water bus, the cumulative actual ticket expenditure of more than 80 yuan but less than 200 yuan will enjoy a 20% discount, and the amount exceeding 200 yuan will enjoy a 50% discount.

NFC Mobile Payments (Apple Pay & Android)

If you prefer digital payments, NFC-enabled phones (Apple Pay, Huawei Pay, Samsung Pay, etc.) can directly support Yangchengtong. Add your card to your phone’s wallet and tap to pay—no QR code needed! Recharging is easy via the phone’s wallet app.

QR Code 📱 – Fastest way if you have Alipay/WeChat Pay.

This pedestrian street is a foodie paradise! From beginning to end, it is full of food, local fried skewers, old-fashioned pastries, freshly made street ice cream, even the old alleys are hidden for decades. The price is real, will not slaughter tourists, buy a fried meat while walking, go shopping and eat for an afternoon, can not walk the road to spend dozens of dollars, than eating expensive rice in the scenic area is too cost-effective, come to travel must come here to eat a circle.

Guangzhou Beijing Road Pedestrian Street is the most lively food shopping district in Guangzhou. Every day, a large number of locals and tourists are attracted. Holidays are not leaking. The most attractive belief on Beijing Road is a dazzling array of food. The streets are full of restaurants and restaurants. There are many famous online celebrity shops and famous old restaurants, and various snack stalls on the road are also very popular. At night, the lighted pedestrian street is more prosperous. In addition to food, the famous Big Buddha Temple in the block is also a worth visiting attraction.

Beijing Street became an excellent final chord of our trip to Guangzhou. We walked there in the afternoon and it was a real mix of shopping, urban vain and little joy. They bought excellent tea, comfortable shoes and several souvenirs for memory. The weather didn't spare: it was very hot, but the air-conditioned shops were pleasant to rest and gain strength for the next round of walks. In two hours, I have managed to circumvent a lot of points and feel the rhythm of the street. I definitely recommend to include it on the route, especially if you want to bring something with you and see the city at the same time

Once, we carried our bags and embraced the world in the most primitive way. The journey to Berlin by car was a long poem written on the road. Eighty-eight pieces of scenery, like eighty-eight notes, connected this uncharted melody. We waited in the wilderness for a passing van, and shared each other's stories with strange drivers. Where the wheels went, we left our firm footprints and our yearning for freedom. The grasslands that were blown by the wind, the Gobi that was baked by the sun, are witnessing our courage. This journey makes us understand that the most beautiful scenery is always on the road, and the most real touch comes from the abundance of the heart. We are no longer the world's passers-by, but with wheels and feet, we have built the deepest connection to this land, allowing life to shine the brightest light on the journey.

Guangzhou Chenjiaxuan is the largest existing Qing Dynasty Zongxuan building in Guangdong, which can be called the treasure house of Lingnan folk crafts. The layout of the whole building is rigorous, from gray plastic, brick carving to ceramic, wood carving, every detail is full of craftsmen ingenuity, the characters are lifelike, even the eaves and tiles are hidden in stories. As a Guangdong Folk Craft Museum, it not only retains the cultural heritage of Zongyu, but also shows the essence of Lingnan traditional craftsmanship. The tickets are close to the people and the transportation is convenient. It is just a little more tourists on holidays. You can see the details of each carving slowly after walking around the staggered peak. Absolutely a cultural landmark that can't be missed in Guangzhou

Chimelong Safari Park is worth playing. Most of the animals are in the park, you can see it by taking a small train, and the elderly and children like it very much. The dining in the park tastes good and not expensive. You can also take the cable car to see the animals below, there are 3 cable car routes.

Chimelong Wildlife Park is really fun and sees a lot of animals. Many animals are not raised in captivity, and they can move freely on the grass. It is recommended to go to the north gate to queue up to take the small train to see wildlife.

For Malaysians planning a trip, don’t be scared of the Guangzhou Metro. It’s way more advanced than our LRT/MRT, but also very user-friendly. With a metro card, mobile QR, and a good map app, you’ll explore Guangzhou like a local 🚇✨.
