What is the best way to travel from Sydney to Brisbane?

The best way to travel from Sydney to Brisbane depends entirely on your schedule. Flying from Sydney Airport (SYD) to Brisbane Airport (BNE) is the fastest, taking just 90 minutes. For budget travelers, the NSW TrainLink XPT offers a scenic 14-hour journey starting around $70 AUD (RM200).

Flights: The Fastest Interstate Commute

Averaging over 100 flights a day, the Sydney to Brisbane air corridor is exceptionally well-serviced. Carriers like Qantas, Virgin Australia, and Jetstar operate direct flights out of Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD). Your wheels will hit the tarmac at Brisbane Airport (BNE) in approximately 90 minutes.

Expect to pay between $120 and $250 AUD (RM342 - RM712) for a one-way ticket, depending on the season and how early you book. Jetstar frequently drops flash sale fares closer to $60 AUD (RM171) for mid-week travel.

Pro-Tip: Skip the expensive airport taxi line in Brisbane. Instead, tap your credit card at the BNE Airtrain turnstile. A 20-minute ride costs roughly $20 AUD (RM57) and drops you directly at Central Station in the heart of the Brisbane CBD. Book cheap flights from Sydney to Brisbane to secure the best departure times.

The NSW TrainLink XPT: Slow Travel and Coastal Views

If you prefer ground transport, the NSW TrainLink XPT is a reliable, highly comfortable alternative. The train departs from Sydney Central Station twice daily, rolling through the lush New South Wales countryside before terminating at Brisbane’s Roma Street Station.

The journey takes exactly 14 hours and 6 minutes. An economy seat costs around $70 AUD (RM200), while upgrading to a first-class sleeper cabin pushes the fare closer to $250 AUD (RM712). The sleeper cabins include fresh linen and fold-down bunks, making the overnight transit highly practical.

Pro-Tip: Bring your own snacks and a reusable water bottle. While the XPT has a buffet car, fresh food options run out quickly on this long-haul regional route.

Long-Distance Bus: The Backpacker Staple

Greyhound Australia runs daily services between Sydney and Brisbane. The trip takes roughly 13 to 14 hours, with buses departing from the bays outside Sydney Central Station and arriving at the Brisbane Transit Centre.

Tickets range from $110 to $140 AUD (RM313 - RM399). These modern coaches come equipped with panoramic windows, reclining leather seats, onboard Wi-Fi, and USB charging ports. It is an excellent choice for last-minute travelers when flights are booked out or surging in price.

How long is the Sydney to Brisbane drive along the coast?

The Sydney to Brisbane drive spans approximately 900 kilometers along the Pacific Highway (M1). While the non-stop drive takes about 10 hours, travelers should allocate three to five days to safely explore coastal highlights like Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, and the Gold Coast before reaching Brisbane.

Planning Your Pacific Highway Itinerary

Hitting the road transforms a standard commute into one of Australia's premier road trips. The M1 motorway is fully sealed, dual-carriageway, and heavily populated with service stations, making it an incredibly smooth drive for standard rental cars and campervans alike.

To avoid driver fatigue, break the journey up. Stop in Port Macquarie to visit the local Koala Hospital, or spend a night in Byron Bay for surf culture and spectacular lighthouse sunrise views. As you cross the Queensland border, the Gold Coast offers a perfect final pitstop before the last 80-kilometer sprint into Brisbane. Fuel costs for a standard sedan will total approximately $150 AUD (RM427) one-way.

Originally booked a twin double room for me, my wife and our granddaughter as I was working in Brisbane and we wanted a change of scenery for my wife and granddaughter. Unfortunately my granddaughter became ill so my wife and granddaughter stayed at home. When I checked in I advised the hotel that only I would be staying for the two nights. Thinking Id help out the hotel room availability I said Id be happy to downsize, the receptionist asked if Id be ok in an Accessible Room which I accepted. I awoke at 2am thinking it was daytime as the room was lit up. Looked at the time and saw it was 2am then realised there was a large gap (30-40mm)under the door and the corridor lights were illuminating the room. After a bad night’s sleep I complained to reception who sent up a maintenance person who advised the door had to be like this to clear the sloping floor to the bathroom for wheelchair access. Poor design not an excuse. I asked if I could have my original room and was told I’d be charged for an upgrade. Told them I’d done them the favour originally so reception said theyd chat to management and get back to me. I was working late shifts and heard nothing back so had to try to sleep in the room again, packing pillows against the door base but light still made it in. There was also stains on the carpet, curtains also let street light in and when doors were closed in other rooms they clanged shut reminding me of a visit to Alcatraz! Little sleep for the second night. I feel sorry for anyone sleeping in that room in the future

My Worst Experience at a W Hotel to Date I have stayed at various W properties, but my recent one-night stay at W Brisbane was easily my most disappointing experience with the brand. For a hotel that prides itself on design and luxury, the functional execution of the room was severely lacking. There were several significant issues that made for a very uncomfortable night: Poor Room Design: The air conditioning is positioned in a way that it blew directly onto my face all night. It was impossible to deflect, and I had to sleep on the other end of the bed. Then I had another issue below. Disruptive Noise: The in-room refrigerator was close the the bed and making distracting noises throughout the night that made it difficult to sleep. Between the mechanical noise and the poorly placed AC, I barely got any rest. Maintenance & Cleanliness: after I woke up in the morning, I was shocked to find a visible hole in the bed sheets. This is not the level of quality control one expects from a five-star establishment. And the bath tub has visible torn and wears. Also the motel level toothbrush. Service: there was no staff at the door helped me and my 70 yo mom with our luggages. I hvae to acknowledge that we arrived quite late but I did expect quality service from a lux hotel. And also no free upgrade offered like my stays with other W. Honestly, I am just glad my stay was only for one night. I expected much better from the W brand and won't be rushing back to this particular location.

we had a great time when stayed in Brisbane,it was very convenient to go around and all the staff who we met were very friendly and helpful.I am very impressed by the service and kindness from them. Offered me to get service and supply what I need promptly. Had a very happy chat with the cleaner who worked there,we met briefly, very pleasant to talk. we enjoyed the breakfast, the staff were super observed when my son needed help and cleaned the table very fast, while didn't get discount as a IHG member for the breakfast charge.it will be a bonus.

The room was pretty standard, felt more like a business hotel than a typical Hyatt. They only provided two complimentary bottles of mineral water. Parking was a nightmare for self-drivers; the car park was incredibly hard to find, located on a tiny street off the main pedestrian area. Breakfast was AUD 45 for one day, but if you booked it for three consecutive nights or more, it was AUD 35 per meal. The food was decent. The biggest advantage was definitely the excellent location, making it easy to walk everywhere. From the room, you could see a landmark building. Oh, and the 'king bed' was actually just two twin beds pushed together.

Every aspect of this stay from check-in to Check -out was fantastic. The staff were very helpful especially the manager Joe, as he gave us a tour of the hotel and a room change as each room is very individual and has a variety of views of the city. We would highly recommend this hotel for its location to explore beautiful Brisbane.

Brisbane Airport is located by the sea, and it's a 30-minute light rail ride from the city center. The city center itself is built along the Brisbane River. It's not a huge city but quite beautiful. The Stamford Hotel is situated at the tip of a peninsula, right next to the City Botanic Gardens, and about a 700-800 meter walk from the central train station. Most of the main attractions are along the river, making it very convenient for sightseeing. I'd say its location is probably the best. The hotel also maintains high standards, falling somewhere between a Hilton and a Conrad in terms of luxury.

The location and environment are decent, but the service definitely needs improvement. We called the front desk five times, and two of our requests were completely forgotten. One was for car retrieval; we waited downstairs for over ten minutes only to find out the front desk hadn't notified the valet. During that time, no one even bothered to ask if we needed assistance. The second was a request for a comb in the evening, which never arrived even by the time we checked out. There were many staff members in the lobby, but everyone seemed quite apathetic. Perhaps because we are foreigners, they weren't interested in interacting with us. I'd advise anyone looking for a comfortable experience that Brisbane has plenty of better hotel options.

I am amazed by this place-YHA Brisbane city-I chose an all girls room and it was amazing, with lockers, clean and money well spent! Location is within walking distance from the Roma station, Roma street park, Victoria bridge, South bank, CBD, walking street, even the Brisbane Botanic Garden and the old parliament house! After checking out you can leave your bag within the day and still use some amenities! I was truly amazed with that and the staff are superb! Will book YHA in other cities as well! Thanks YHA for making my Brisbane trip extra special!

The apartment was well-equipped, clean, and the bedding was good quality. The heated indoor pool offered incredible views. The location was top-notch, close to the river, shopping streets, Botanic Garden, Kangaroo Point, and more – we were able to walk everywhere. The staff were helpful. The only drawback was the cramped parking, and the limited spots reserved for CLLIX. We would happily return.

This hotel is a great option in Brisbane's city center, offering excellent value for money! It's a shame they're currently undergoing renovations, but I'm sure it will be even better afterward. The location was excellent and made it very easy to explore Brisbane, with convenient access to the CBD, South Bank, dining options, and public transport. The rooms have good views of the city. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, but what stood out most was the service from their team. The receptionist especially was friendly and welcoming, and we appreciated the assistance with storing our luggage and providing umbrellas during the rainy weather. These thoughtful touches made our stay even more enjoyable.

Capri hotel ticked all the boxes for me & Mom. Mom has just undergone a spinal surgery so the bed, close access to the lift, hotel location, kitchenette, amenities and staff friendliness made our short trip super enjoyable and easy despite of the drizzling weather. Super close to the Queen’s Plaza, Star Casino (and the sky deck), close to St Stephen Cathedral and Mom can even walk to the Brisbane Eye in Southbank. No staff that not helpful and smiley. Highly recommended! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The location is fantastic, right at the end of the main shopping street. You can literally just walk downstairs and you're there. We were able to walk to several attractions from the hotel. The front desk for check-in is shared by two hotels, which wasn't very clearly indicated, and I was quite anxious while waiting in line. It's a pretty big hotel with lots of guests, and no matter which building you're in, there's always an elevator out of order. It seems like they always have to have one of the three elevators shut down for maintenance.

Stayed in an Executive Suite (one-bedroom apartment) on a Friday night for $250. Overall, a solid stay with a few caveats. The layout is excellent. You get a proper separate bathroom, a generous open-plan kitchen and living area, plus a balcony that makes the space feel even larger. The bedroom is also well sized and includes a built-in wardrobe, which is genuinely useful if you’re staying more than a night or travelling for business. Location is a real strength. You’re right in the CBD, making it easy to walk to restaurants, offices, and the river precinct. For a Brisbane city stay, convenience is hard to fault. Where the property slips slightly is in the feel of the fixtures and finishes. They’re not old or worn out, but they already feel a bit dated stylistically. It gives the apartment a slightly tired vibe despite being perfectly functional and clean. Value wise, $250 on a Friday night for this amount of space and a central location is reasonable

Stayed here for our anniversary and it was surprisingly pleasant and awesome. Staff were genuinely attentive and meet our needs, and room service was excellent throughout the stay. The hotel sits right above Central Station with direct internal access, super convenient with escalators linking straight to the street level. Room size was nice, bed comfy, though I do wish more lighting to make room a bit brighter. Still, the overall vibe felt premium without being stiff. Great base for exploring the city, and we felt well taken care of from check-in to check-out.

Just a minute's walk from the station, though I did get a bit lost finding the entrance. The reception staff were friendly, informative, and helpful. The room was clean and well-maintained. I made a request, and the FV staff provided service that exceeded my expectations, making my stay very pleasant. Near the weekend, the area gets a bit lively at night due to its location, but it's not noisy at all. There are plenty of supermarkets and restaurants nearby, so you won't have trouble shopping or finding places to eat. I would definitely stay at this hotel again:)

The name on the exterior wall of the hotel doesn't match the name on the main entrance. The room layout was like a labyrinth, making me a little dizzy trying to navigate it. The hotel is located next to Brisbane City Hall, just 600 meters from Central Station, an easy walk even with luggage. It's surrounded by markets and restaurants. I successfully found a Chinese restaurant for rice noodles thanks to the directions given by the front desk staff, which I really appreciated. The room was small, and the cleanliness was just okay. The bathroom had plenty of hot water, but the hotel had a strong odor and poor air circulation. The soundproofing in the room wasn't great. There were paid snacks in the fridge and on the counter. Slippers and toothbrushes were not provided. The main highlight is the excellent location. For four people, taking a taxi from here to the international terminal was over 10 AUD cheaper than taking the train, and we didn't even have to walk from the hotel entrance.

They arranged a non-smoking room far from the elevator for us, just as requested, and we stayed for four nights. **Ambiance:** The hotel is directly opposite Central Station, making transportation incredibly convenient with many bus stops nearby and the Metro right next door. Shopping is also easy. **Cleanliness:** We only requested room cleaning twice during our four-day stay. On the third day, the front desk even called us specifically to ask if we wanted our room cleaned, which was very thoughtful. **Cons:** The hotel is in an older building that has been renovated, and it's right next to the Metro. Sometimes, the hotel's ventilation system carries a smell of cooking oil. Because it's an old building, the air conditioning units are incredibly noisy! Light sleepers should definitely consider this before booking. After the first night, we asked the front desk and found out it's the same in other rooms; they kindly provided earplugs. Also, if you prefer firm pillows, be aware that both pillows provided are very soft. After four nights, I felt like my neck was stiff. **Service:** The front desk staff were very enthusiastic and had excellent service attitudes.

The hotel's location is excellent, right opposite the botanical gardens, and just three streets away from the city center. However, the room decor is quite old-fashioned. The hot and cold water taps are separate, making it very tricky to adjust the water temperature in the shower. The toilet flush is on the wall behind you, so you have to reach back after standing up to press it. Dining at the restaurant was a nightmare. After placing our order, they said they needed to change the gas and it would take 20 minutes. About 10 minutes later, a strong smell of gas filled the air... They offered to deliver the food to our room but couldn't guarantee when it would arrive today.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall stay at Brisbane Marriott We recently stayed at the Brisbane Marriott  for my daughters 21st and were genuinely impressed by how lovely the hotel is and how amazing the staff were. The warm, welcoming service started from the moment we arrived at valet parking and continued throughout our stay. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, accommodating, and did their best to assist us. The rooms themselves were nice and comfortable, although we did notice some wear and tear, particularly with the bathroom and bedroom cabinetry which was scratched and broken. The beds also felt quite small for two adults and made sleeping a little squishy. Our biggest concern, however, was the air-conditioning. When we first walked into the room it was set at 18 degrees, which we thought would be perfect—especially with four girls getting ready, expecting a cool room so our makeup wouldn’t melt. Unfortunately, it was the complete opposite. The room felt like a hot box from the start. The staff were fantastic and came to check and reset the system twice, but by the time we returned at 1am, it was still extremely hot. It was uncomfortable enough that one of our group decided to go home because she couldn’t sleep in the heat. At that hour, there was also no one at the front desk to seek further assistance from. We did mention this at checkout, as we genuinely expected that a well-known, reputable hotel like the Marriott would not have such an issue with air-conditioning. It was disappointing, as everything else—from the service to the overall atmosphere—was lovely. Massive shout out to the male staff member who collected our bags both at arrival and departure (sorry wasn’t able to recall you name) you are a great asset to the hotel!! With improvement to the room cooling, this would have been a fantastic stay. The staff truly are the highlight of the hotel.

This hotel is centrally located in Brisbane, right next to King George Square and City Hall, making it incredibly convenient for dining, shopping, sightseeing, and transportation. The room was well-equipped with all necessary amenities, including a full set of toiletries. However, Chinese guests should note that disposable slippers are not provided. The staff were very welcoming and offered high-quality service. The breakfast was plentiful and of good quality. During my stay, one of the two elevators was out of order, and the remaining one was quite slow, which might be due to outdated equipment. Overall, it's a hotel worth recommending.

This hotel was average in pretty much every sense. It was ”fine” in that it had two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen and living room. The layout was not very functional, the toilet was pretty much in the middle of the bathroom, the power points were hidden behind the middle of the double bed there were three chairs for four people. Staff were helpful but the television didn't always connect and there wasn't enough dishwashing supplies, bin bags or toilet paper for our stay, which all involved trips to reception. The hotel location is a short walk to Queen Street mall and lots of, mostly Asian, restaurants.

The location was great. The beds good. We had a great few from the balcony onto the river. The apartment is dated, this is visible in the bathroom and the carpet should be replaced. The curtains had stains and I wasn’t sure, if they were dirty or grey. The chairs also show their age. During our stay one elevator was under maintenance, which made the waiting time for the free elevator quite long. There is parking for $39 per night inside the complex. Unfortunately the complex does not offer flat rates for weekend or public holidays. So one might be better off to park in one of the many car parks near by for as low as $9 (online) a day on the weekend.

The hotel is very conveniently located, just an 8-minute walk from Queen Street Walk and a 3-4-minute walk from the Brisbane River. It's also easily accessible by bus and ferry. The apartment-style rooms are spacious and well-equipped. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, microwave, oven, pots and pans, and cutlery. Everything is spotless, and there are also washing and drying facilities. The most thoughtful thing is that while the room was supposed to be cleaned once a week when I booked, it was actually cleaned daily. Everything is immaculately tidy, which is a great relief after a trip. The hotel's security is also very good, and there seems to be an outdoor pool, but I didn't get to experience it, which was a bit of a shame.

They assisted us by storing our things before check in so we can roam freely and sent us a message when our room is finally ready for check in. They gave clear instructions as to what to do after office hours.

Good location, friendly excellent staff, rooms were in excellent condition, great air conditioning, I didn't use the food menu. 1 lift was out of action unfortunately, so had to wait a few minutes each use. Other than the lift excellent.

The hotel is conveniently located, it only takes about five or six minutes to walk from the city center, and there are many bus stops nearby. It is an apartment with 1 bedroom, 1 living room, 1 kitchen and 1 bathroom. The living room and bedroom each have a large balcony. It is very spacious and suitable for a family. The kitchen utensils are complete, and you can cook by yourself after shopping. Room service is available every day. This price is suitable for a family to live in, and if traveling alone, it is a bit expensive.

Environment: Serviced apartments in the center of Brisbane, with a good environment. The two-bedroom room I booked is very large, 95 square meters, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with a balcony that offers a river view, and a very beautiful night view. A new building is being built on the vacant land on the left, so there may not be such a good view in the future. Hygiene: The bedding in the room is very clean, and there is room service and cleaning every day, which is great. Facilities: Very complete, with a washing machine and dryer, and a drying rack, which is great. Service: I have to give a thumbs up. We didn't take some clothes away, and the waiter even emailed us to ask if we needed them to be sent to us, which was very friendly.

Fantastic location in the city. The room was enormous and really comfortable. Very close to Central Station which was useful for us. We would definitely stay here again when we have a stopover in Brisbane.

Check in was good with a very friendly and informative front desk Concierge. Our room was tidy and neat but it did not have a view of the Story Bridge as stated in our booking. So we went down to the front desk who quickly upgraded our booking to the next floor up with a bigger room and the most fantastic view of the Story Bridge from the lounge and bedroom. The hotel is situated walking distance to the Botanical Gardens, Southbank and City. We had breakfast supplied in our booking but the restaurant was only for take away so we had a voucher to spend on coffee and cabinet food which was OK. I Would recommend staying at Oakwood but make sure your room has a view of the bridge...Its totally worth the experience.

This restaurant is in the suburbs of Brisbane. It is very far from the city. It costs $100 to take a taxi. It is inconvenient to buy things. Even taking a taxi is very difficult. If you don’t like to see the scenery, it is recommended not to stay in this hotel

Fantastic! This apartment hotel is amazing. It comes with a kitchen, living room, laundry facilities, and a balcony with stunning views of Brisbane from the bed. It's also super close to the supermarket, and just a 5-minute walk to South Bank Parklands. Getting around is a breeze – both the CityCat and buses are easily accessible. Plus, it's really close to museums, art galleries, and the library. I'm so happy with this apartment hotel! The kitchenware and tableware are all well-stocked, making it perfect for even hosting a party.

I personally like this hotel with history. The furniture in the room is slightly damaged, which adds to the flavor of the hotel (it's a little bit...it doesn't affect the use...it's just a sign of time! Of course, I told the front desk...I'm afraid it was mistakenly thought that we damaged it). The location is really great (go there Conveniently located anywhere), the first thing my dad does when he wakes up is to take away coffee from different stores! There is a restaurant downstairs, and there is a constant stream of business. My father said the coffee is fragrant and delicious, and my sister brings out desserts for travel, which is not bad! The hotel is clean and tidy. They come in every day to tidy up and replenish supplies. I really think this hotel has high value for money. For me, the only drawbacks were the carpet in the room and the deposit! Ps. The deposit was pre-authorized, but it was not refunded when checking out, so you still need to pay attention to whether there is a request for payment (if there is any disputed payment)

Across from the W Hotel, this property shares a building with Indigo, with each hotel occupying one side. It's close to the city center and South Bank. The CityCat ferry is also conveniently nearby for easy boat travel. The breakfast is exquisite, with excellent quality ingredients.

This room was supposed to be the superior one-bedroom room from the previous night, but I stayed in that one-bedroom room the night before because the one-bedroom room I booked that night was due for renovation and could not be lived in. On the first day of check-in, I asked the front desk to swap the rooms for the two nights so that everyone would be convenient and not suffer a loss. After all, different room types have different room rates. The so-called superior room is more expensive mainly because it is newly renovated. It looks beautiful, but I am embarrassed to post the photo of the toilet. It was only a little cleaner after I flushed it. Forget the bathtub. It is okay if I don't take a shower for one night. There is still an ashtray on the balcony. The front desk is very dedicated. The only advantage of the facilities is that the bathroom mirror is on the cabinet door. You don't have to see yourself when you open the cabinet door. I remember that Ctrip once had a test sleeper's high opinion of the mirror, which impressed me deeply when Ctrip was just founded.

I remember that I had a very good impression of this hotel when I stayed there for the first time last month, but this time it seemed to echo my premonition of human destiny. There is a light in the kitchen that can be on or off as it pleases, and the washing machine has a lot of foam without adding detergent. After I cleaned it, it can be rinsed clean without detergent. I have created a miracle to have the best of both worlds. What I can't stand is that the wifi always drops out at will, forcing me to go out in the rain to use the internet to post reviews

I took the cheapest single room, but the size of the room is all right, the bed is king size? It was about big. The location is good, but the shower room is very small. I think that a man with a good physique is very cramped because I am small and short and small. The cleanliness is low, but it's worth the price because it's cheaper than other hotels.

Very nice hotel, the facilities are very good! You can simply heat the food yourself. It is also very convenient for a suite to live together. like very much. Opposite is WOOLWORTH, very convenient. The service is also very good, the oven is broken, help us to bake PIZZA, thank you very much! Overall very good. I like WOOLWORTH very much, and Australian milk is delicious. Juice is OK, but I prefer Australian milk and I feel that Hawaiian fruit juice is better. But milk is really good in Australia.
