GGuest UserThis was my third trip to Shanghai. I initially planned for a week, but ended up staying three! (I gained 6 pounds from all the eating, drinking, and leisurely strolling in Shanghai. [chuckle]) I convinced my friend from Nanjing to visit, and under my strong recommendation, she tried a youth hostel for the first time. She gave positive feedback too!
Accommodation in Shanghai is a bit pricier than other places, but other expenses are quite similar. So, staying at this hostel was truly a great value for money. I was comfortable during my stay, and any minor issues were resolved. The location is excellent; I stayed at the Yu Garden branch, which is about a 20-minute walk to the bustling Yu Garden, The Bund, and Nanjing Road. (Actually, the popular restaurants on Nanjing Road walking street often serve mass-produced, low-quality food. I ordered dumplings that were advertised as handmade, but they were just the cheapest frozen kind!) It's like how many famous commercial streets, like Jiefangbei in Chongqing or Chunxi Road in Chengdu, have quite disappointing food options. [facepalm emoji] Instead, I recommend checking out Ximeng Wet Market for local snacks and pastries, crispy fried meat, or walking four minutes from the hostel to Xiangbawang Local Cuisine Restaurant on Huangjiaque Road – it's like a 'senior's cafeteria' with wontons and Northeastern dumplings. The prices are affordable, and there's a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Local eateries are definitely much tastier. Dengba Youth Hostel has several branches in Shanghai. Once, when I was heading back, I accidentally navigated to the one near the train station, and I thought, 'Wait, this isn't right...' Hehe! 😈
People from all over the world gather here for travel, work, study, and life... This place offers a comfortable space for everyone. Thank you for all the conveniences you provide. I was also lucky to have great roommates. Some even gave me apples, lollipops, and snacks – it's so heartwarming to receive gifts from others! I paid attention to the details and saw a variety of interesting, quiet, upright, generous, sincere, hardworking, and cheerful lovely people here. As the saying goes (paraphrased): the 'you' you know isn't the real you; the 'you' others know isn't the real you; the 'others' you know are the real you. I love Shanghai and will definitely visit again, hopefully without gaining more weight! [doge emoji]

GGuest UserWhat an amazing experience! The front desk staff was so enthusiastic. When she saw me struggling with two suitcases, she greeted me while rushing over to open the door and even tried to help me with my luggage. It almost made this big guy embarrassed!
The facilities inside were exactly as pictured, even better. The absolute highlight was the huge 200-300 square meter drying area on the top floor – probably the largest online. Six washing machines and dryers lined up in a row were a huge convenience for long-term guests, and the drying area has a transparent roof, so it's good come rain or shine. The drying area is so massive that a portion of it has been converted into a relaxation zone, with starry string lights on the ceiling. Imagine a few beers and a barbecue up there on a summer night – simply fantastic!

MM419969****Extremely satisfied with my stay! The beds were spacious with ample storage lockers and hangers, which was really convenient. The mattress was quite comfortable too. The restrooms and showers were combined, but there were plenty of stalls so I never had to wait. There were separate toilet stalls and squat toilets in the shower area. The location is relatively convenient, close to the subway. The indoor non-smoking policy was a huge plus for me. The front desk staff were very friendly and patiently answered all my questions. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Shanghai!

MM271849****Working in Pudong over the weekend, I was too tired to head home, so I looked for a good value-for-money place nearby. The front desk staff, especially Feifei, was excellent. The best part about the accommodation is its zero-distance proximity to the subway entrance. The lobby is a hidden gem – you can relax, eat takeout, and chat with friends, it's super cozy. The accommodation itself is incredibly quiet; everyone is very considerate. The rooms have private bathrooms, and there are even extra ones outside, so no waiting to freshen up. The luggage storage service was a thoughtful touch. This chain hostel definitely lives up to its reliable reputation!

LLucywanFor a youth hostel, this place truly excels. Toiletries are provided, and the bathrooms are quite clean and well-maintained. The rooms are quite spacious. The front desk staff provide excellent service. They allow early check-in if a room is available, which is a huge plus. Its proximity to the subway makes getting around very convenient.

AAchengdebairimengI was really surprised to find such a clean hostel in China, with absolutely no strange odors. I stayed in a quad room, and it wasn't even full for the two nights I was there, which made for a pretty good experience. The location is super convenient, close to Qufu Road subway station and Jing'an Joy City, making it easy to get around and find places to eat, drink, and have fun.

GGuest UserThe location was in a lively part of Jing'an, although a little far from Jiangsu Road Station. I enjoyed the bicycle ride to the temple nearby, as it was a pretty neighborhood.
Unfortunately, that is pretty much all the good things I have to say about this place. The facilities, the entire place in general, was old and run-down. I was assigned a bed at the far end of the room where my cell service cut off. Not really the establishment's fault but something worth mentioning in my opinion as the wifi was often slow. A section of the wood of the opposite bunk bed was black and seemed to be rotting. The air smelled moldy. The bed was huge though, which was nice. The place did not seemed to be getting the love and care it needed. The bathroom facilities were tiny with two shower stalls and a toilet (plus another separate one some distance away). It wasn't dirty necessarily but it wasn't exactly clean either. I did not feel comfortable using it however. None of the staff I interacted with spoke English (my fault for not learning some basic Chinese at least). I was disappointed by the quality I was met with since this is apparently the flagship? It wasn't cheaper compared to other hostels either.
I felt bad but had to shorten my reservation and moved to a different place. But your standards might vary.

AAnonymous UserThe location is superb. Metro and shops are all extremely near. However the space is actually quite small and a bit hard to find. Asking around will help you find the hostel easily.
The room is quite small and best for travellers travelling light. I had some trouble with a large suitcase as there's not enough space to open it.
Staffs were super super friendly and accomodating. They were willing to help and assist.

The dormitory beds have curtains for privacy, a mirror, and charging sockets. The shared bathrooms were clean. Overall, I had a great stay.
