Our stay at this small hotel near Koggala Lake was a mix of stunning natural beauty and several missed opportunities to deliver a premium experience. Pros: The location is truly unique, set directly on Koggala Lake in a completely secluded and peaceful environment. With only a few rooms, the hotel offers a quiet atmosphere with plenty of space at the infinity pool and good service from the staff. The views of Koggala Lake from both the room and the pool are breathtaking. The Sri Lankan breakfast was incredibly delicious and highly recommended – an absolute highlight of our stay! The entire staff was always very friendly and helpful. Cons: The staff experience was mixed. While many young employees brought enthusiasm to their roles, they appeared to be less experienced in providing hospitality service. Some spoke very good English, others were tough to understand but conversation was always possible. Despite staying for several days at a small hotel, the staff didn’t seem to know how long we were staying and asked multiple times the same questions, which made the overall management feel a bit disorganized. The staff at the pool were not intrusive, which was appreciated, but they were also very reserved. We often had to go actively to the bar to order, as poolside service was not proactive. The hotel is accessed via narrow paths, which can be challenging, though it is navigable with Google Maps. The coffee machine was broken throughout our 4-day stay and was not repaired, leaving no coffee options available. We read, that the coffee would have been very good and therefore this experience is disappointing. The selection of drinks was limited, with several items on the menu unavailable. Given the length of our stay, we felt that restocking should have been possible. The menu was very small, which is commendable for ensuring fresh dishes, but even within this limited selection, some items were some days unavailable. This was disappointing. Our room had poorly sealed doors, allowing wildlife to enter. (bugs, leeches, geckos, etc.) While we understand the natural setting, better sealing (especially on the entry and balcony doors) would enhance comfort. There was no minibar or tea/coffee-making facilities in the room, which is unexpected for a hotel in this price range. The rooms are very secluded and therefore not close to the main area and it is therefore not easy to get something on your own. Overall: The stunning location and serene atmosphere are the standout features of this hotel, along with the delicious Sri Lankan breakfast. However, maintenance issues, limited dining and beverage options, and some outdated amenities detract from the overall experience. With more attention to detail and investment in facilities, this property could truly shine.
