The views are wasted in this place. I stayed in this "hotel' for 5 or 6 nights. It's not an actual hotel. They should call it a guest house or hostel, but it is not a hotel. It was a highly disappointing experience. The rooms are very basic and have a bad smell. They are only cleaned every fourth day; if you want more frequent cleaning, you must pay extra. The hotel only has staff on-site from 12 PM to 8 PM, and no staff or services are available on Wednesdays. We were also told that the lagoon was closed, but other hotels were fully staffed and provided food and drink services. The worst part of our stay was when the electricity went out in the middle of the night, and no one was there to help. We called and messaged all the available numbers but got no response. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since all the other surrounding hotels had power, and no staff arrived at El Buho until noon. Once we told them about our experience of sleeping with no AC and with the doors to the hotel rooms unlocked, there was no apology. The staff claimed that electricity was out all over the island, and that was a lie because we could see that the other hotels had electricity. The final distressing event was when I went to shower, and there was no water. Luckily, this happened before 8 PM because we would have been out of luck until morning. Overall, I would not recommend staying at El Buho Hotel—the lack of care for the guests, along with cleanliness, limited staff availability, and poor customer service, made for an unpleasant experience. There are much better options available in Bacalar. DO NOT STAY HERE.
