TTour33203375830I had a lovely stay at the Ipanema Inn, thanks to the incredible staff - from Joao, Fred, and Lucas at the front desk, to Diana, Remy, and others (I'm sorry I couldn't remember all the names!) offering excellent service at the restaurant. Joao in particular went above and beyond to ensure that I was comfortable as a solo female traveler, which meant a lot to me. I really felt welcome and at home, which feels very rare for a hotel nowadays. I unfortunately don't speak Portuguese and didn't have enough advance notice before I found out I was coming to Brazil to learn any, but most of the staff spoke excellent English and did so graciously. The hotel is less than one block from the beach, and it was so easy to grab a towel from the front desk and get a chair, umbrella, and a caipirinha in hand in front of the ocean within moments. The location in Ipanema is convenient and accessible, and just 1.5 blocks from the metro, which I used to get around when traffic was especially gnarly. I felt very safe walking around by myself, even at night - I'm from DC, so I usually have my hackles raised. The room itself was very comfortable. The bed and pillows were perfect, the A/C worked excellently, and all the little touches were there, including plenty of outlets and adjustable lights. My only complaint was that the 220V outlet in the bathroom was blocked by the mirror, so you had to use the lower volt outlet, and couldn't use the hair dryer at full power. The shower pressure was great, I also wish I'd bought a bottle of the shampoo, which gave my hair a really nice touch of volume without frizzing it up in the humidity. There's construction near the hotel, so I recommend booking a superior room or higher for the few months as it's completed. The included breakfast was great, with actual sit-down service and a wide choice of options, including espresso drinks. Don't hesitate to book - the staff will ensure you have a great stay.
