Guest of the hotel on 11/10/08 room 504 We were excited to give McCamly Plaza a chance after reading the managers response to comments and viewing photos of the renovated rooms on the hotels website. We quit staying there two years ago because the unacceptable condition of the rooms. The rooms on the website look fantastic, similar to the rooms at the J.W. Marriott in Grand Rapids which is a very chic hotel with a hip vibe. I became skeptical as I entered the lobby. It looked they exchange one old tired look for another, with some of the worst offenders still in place. The same office drop tile ceiling and the old tutor style wood framing still on the walls. The lobby still has the retirement home décor with no vibe or energy. I just told myself it is probably still a work in progress and the rooms will be better. We were given room 504 and continued to our room. The elevator cabs still had the same tired interiors as before, the hallways were the same, it was not looking good. We opened the door and was greeted with the same tired wore out room that caused us to stop staying at this hotel two years ago. What a huge disappointment! No chic interior as the web site showed, no flat TV, nothing! Instead, we had peeling wallpaper with dirt marks, stained and damaged furniture. They must have had some sort of trouble in the super small bathroom because there was a huge wallpaper patch that did not match the original. However, the beds were new and comfortable. We had high hopes for this hotel. We though the days were over having to drive back and forth to the Kalamazoo Radisson Hotel. Well, it looks like that drive will continue. Pics of the room condition attached. P.S. skip starbucks, Brownstone coffee located one block from hotel is better. They have a great peanut butter Mocha
