I turned up early to ask if I could leave my bag but no one was about and I had to call three phone numbers to talk to someone who was not around but told me to leave my bag and they would look after it. I went back after check in time to get my key and did not get the room I had booked but the room was adequate for one night. I was informed Breakfast was served from 7.30 to 9.30 and I said I would be down around 8am . I found my case where I had left it and it was not locked away safely but left in the hall. My dress that was hung up on a door was now trapped between the door and the frame as the door had been closed but my dress had not been moved. The room was small but mostly clean. There were stains on the carpet and chair. I know it is an old building but the windows were dirty and one had a pane of glass cracked. The bathroom floor creaked badly as did the stairs going up to the room. Coming in late meant it was difficult to be quiet I went down for breakfast at 7.50 after I had been out to pay parking as I was expecting to be there for at least another 45mins to 1 hour to have breakfast. I waited 15mins in the bar for someone to come and see what i wanted for breakfast but nobody came. In the end I left a message on the bar to say I was leaving and would lock up and put the key through the letter box. For the cost of the stay this was not value for money and the service was not up to standard. I would appreciate some explanation for the lack of customer care and recompense for not getting what I paid for

We just held our wedding reception at the Abbey Hotel and we couldn't recommend them enough. They were the first venue we visited and Kate was so welcoming and fun that we booked with them straight away! With the help of Kate and the team we had the most wonderful time. The party food and breakfast was so delicious and we can't wait to go back for an ELF night or Sunday lunch! Thanks so much xxx

The Abbey's Web sites says that they open for breakfast at 7.30. The only place we could find on the internet that opened before 8. Having waited and gone there at 7.30, we were very curtly informed they are not open for breakfast to public, just to guests staying there. That is OK, but they really should have the correct information on their website. We found that the bakery is open from 7.30 or maybe earlier and it did a beautiful breakfast at at a really good price.

I had the calamari and garlic mayo which was really really good and then I had a cow pie which was definitely up there with one of the best pies I've ever had (I'm well fat and I've had so many pies). The absolute best bit was the gravy which was actually good thick gravy and there was enough of it which is rare in restaurants. If I had to say a negative I'd say that it probably took longer than it should have for the food to come out but it wasn't an offensively long time so it's all good. Definitely recommend, will be back.

Lovely place, right in the centre of Battle. Really varied menu and, food was excellent - the “best Ploughman’s in East Sussex” was exactly that and, the beef shin ravioli was delicious. Really friendly place, staff great too, would highly recommend.

Booked having read reviews and was really surprised and very disappointed at just how poor quality the room and the bed were, unfortunately this disappointment continued with the breakfasts, really not good value at all and cannot recommend

Very disappointed with my bed, the mattress had completely gone and was very uncomfortable. I removed sheets and mattress topper to look at it and the mattress was covered in stains and clearly should have been replaced a long time ago! I Barely slept for two nights. The breakfast on the first morning was awful, scrambled egg full of salt and pepper so looked very grey and was very dry. The following morning stuck to the yogurt and granola which was nice (you can’t go too far wrong with that). Such a shame as not cheap and could have been so much better.
