There is a wow factor for sure. But rating this place as average feels a little unfair on the friendly and efficient staff. It just needs a little more thought to elevate what it has to becoming quite the charming place you'd hope it to be. It's a little out of Beaune, so a car is essential. The setting is nice, and you can relax here. However, a hotel it is not and like may places in France, you get the feel that once everyone is checked in/out, breakfast served - which we did not have - that the staff leave in the evening and that's it. There is a bar - no fridge in your room - but it shuts at 9pm, when all the staff leave the chateau. The bar area could be made more comfortable and you could have either an honour system or, as I have seen, wine dispensers. Our room probably was the smallest in the place, had the shower in the room. I have had bath tubs in rooms before, but with way more space and the shower was separate. However, in this room, it's not the fact that the shower is in the room that's the issue: it's the the glass used is not frosted and so, if you are sharing, then the other has to watch you shower! Well that might be ok, but what was most bizarre about the shower is the fact that in using plain glass used, there is the possibility for someone in the room opposite to see into the room and you showering if they were to enter/leave their room at the same time that your partner was entering/leaving our room! Why then, you would not use frosted glass is a puzzler. Goes without saying, no handrails for those of us with mobility issues - always a factor in France - and so as the drainage was poor, it made getting in and out of the shower was difficult, and the area gets flooded unless you use a towel to act as a dam. Ventilating the room is also a challenge after you and your partner take showers. I'd also ask the local plumber to come in and adjust the radiator thermometer so that instead of it pointing out and thus, easy to bang into as you get in/out the right side of the bed, it points up. But, it is a pleasant place. It just needs to look at the little things a bit more to elevate it. We found it clean and tidy, just currently lacking the bang for the bucks.
