This is a Warning about the times chosen to eat half board at Hotel Melina. We've just returned from a weeks stay based on half board. We chose to have Breakfast and Dinner instead of Breakfast and Lunch. Breakfast wasn't bad , very average for Spain but it was the food quality and selection on the Evening Dinner that let us down. The first meal on the Sunday seemed to be pretty good but then it went down hill. You could tell that some of the food was recycled dishes from Lunch, the soup was limited and not an attractive option. We were usually one of the first into the Dining room ( due to late and starving) which didn't open UNTIL 8pm. Not Good. It was only on the Thursday that we decided to have a sneak into the LUNCHTIME session to see what was served up on that sitting as against our Dinner Menu. We found a BIG difference in the Selection and quality on offer at Lunch. Things like Paella (my favourite) Corn on the Cob, Better items on offer including a big better choice of Soups and Quantity all which we never had on our Dinner Menu. We felt we had been mugged by the food on offer on our Evening Dinner dining menu. So our Warning is DON'T CHOOSE THE 8PM DINING you get a much better choice and selection on the LUNCHTIME menu. Plus 8pm is a bit too late to have to wait for your Evening dinner but its a very Spanishy traditional Hotel which probably accounts for the late situ. As far as the hotel itself is concerned, it was brilliant. Spotlessly clean, great staff, lovely room, quiet position, comfy beds, convenient location.

Writing while in the hotel bar on my last night. First time for me to Benidorm and also as a solo traveller. Room is more than adequate with a queen sized comfy bed, double mirrored wardrobe and a nice sized bathroom with a very decent shower. It’s cleaned daily if you so wish or you can leave the do not disturb sign in and the maids know to not bother. Pool area was fab. Half expected to see Mel in his leopard print thong. Because of the time of visit the pool and pool bar were closed but that didn’t stop a few young ones braving a dip. The hotel itself is clean and well presented and the staff are lovely. Check in was quick but I did arrive mid afternoon on a Monday. Meal times get a lot of stick but the food is fine. Always plenty choice. I did half board and always came away full. The drinks on the bar are very expensive. I’ve just paid £6 for a very thin small glass of Malibu n coke. Cheaper in the bars out and about but I’m only here because I’ve walked for miles today and have an early pick up tomorrow. Only downside I’d say is the walls are paper thin. I’ve just had a gaggle of young girls move in next door and the noise this evening has been horrendous. Previous nights have been fine with just one kick off last night with someone banging a room door down to complain about noise. So I’m doubting I’ll sleep tonight once they come in off the drink but it’s my last so not worth complying or asking to move. Would I stay again possibly not. There are many lovely hotels and apartments in Benidorm so for all I will be back it won’t be to this hotel

Looked to stay in the Old Town and the location couldn’t be better on “Gin and Tonic” street with Tapas Alley next door. It’s an excellent 3 star hotel, everything is immaculately clean, room was spacious (we had a leak from upstairs in the bathroom on arrival, which was taken care of immediately or we had the choice of another room, so cannot fault the staff) Lovely roof terrace to sunbathe and the barman in the downstairs bar was friendly and attentive. It was lovely to sit outside and watch the world go by in the evening. We went half board and are not fussy eaters, however, the food was mostly cold at both breakfast and dinner which would put us off booking half board again. They just need to invest in some hot plates and that would be remedied though. Lovely to have a bottle of wine included in the evening meal and again, everything is very clean. Would we return? Yes. As it’s such a great location, Staff are attentive and the place is sparkling. For a 3 star hotel you get what you pay for, rooms are basic and functional but the staff go above and beyond to ensure you have a nice holiday. For a cheap getaway it’s an ideal base to explore the Old Town but also close to Levante and the new town, so the best of both worlds.

Our reservation got changed to this hotel from Alameda for some reason. We were very disappointed because the location of alameda was why we picked it and Hotel Brasil is quite a way away. However it was a beautiful little hotel very clean with lovely helpful and welcoming staff. There was entertainment on every day with dancing. Food was lovely rooms perfect. The WIFI is the best I have known. Only problem for us was the location up quite a steep hill one of our party has mobility issues so we struggled up and down it everyday. However this is not the hotels fault and we would stay here again.

Great get away but be aware of the hill!! Arrived at around 1pm and went into reception which was closed and no one to be seen! There were a bunch of kids there so we couldn't see any signs of what to do! Eventually I saw a sign that said you have to check in at the other hotel around the corner. Not ideal after being up and travelling all morning. Checked into the hotel and given a key - Allocated a 1st floor room which was ideal as we both don't like heights - and this is a very high block with I think 36 floors!! Room was perfect, dishwasher and washing machine with comfortable beds and very clean. Really liked the room to be fair. Huge balcony too overlooking the small pool. Location though for us was not good. It sits at the top of a hill, a very high hill. Walking from the town was a killer on our legs and carrying shopping was awful. A taxi was about 5euros and worth it... We were only there for 3 nights and as mentioned the place and room was lovely but not that hill!!

After reading some reviews I wasn’t very hopeful.. what can I say.. hotel staff were pleasant on the reception desk and domestic staff always said hello, that, unfortunately is where it ends.. we went AI.. there is a long bar with a little arrow showing where we should queue for drinks or snacks.. (snacks are packet of crisps and dry sandwich with ham and some form of cheeseserved between 10am-7pm) to put it in perspective the bar is approx 4-5mtrs long, AI have 1 meter but if a ‘paying guest’ comes to the bar they will be served first! Definitely a Spanish led hotel, no Scottish friendly music or entertainment. The food was awful, as other reviews have said.. we had to eat out every day/night.. managed to eat cornflakes for breakfast a couple of mornings but that’s about it, wasn’t fighting a hundred rude people for a bowl of cornflakes! Bed covers were not the nicest, hard and jaggy. All in all we would not stay here again.. I know you get what you pay for but my goodness I’ve paid less for some holidays and experienced much better service, food, people, soft bedding .. just awful 😞
