Our daughter has gone to Boise State for the past 4.5 years and we have stayed at the Hotel 43 for every visit to Boise except for one. However, the experience that we had this past weekend was quite different and very disappointing. Because our daughter was graduating, in March we booked 5 rooms for out of town family to come. Upon booking, we receive notification that the hotel would be undergoing construction from September-December. Immediately, some family members expressed concern about this and asked if we should book somewhere else. We called the hotel and were told that the construction would begin in the lobby and that this work would be completed well before December. The construction would then migrate to the guest rooms to be completed by year-end. Based on this, we convinced our family to stick with hotel 43. In recent weeks, we received email communications from the hotel reflecting the same schedule. Again, my wife called to confirm that things would be OK. Upon arriving, we discovered that the lobby was no where near completion and that the entire entrance to the hotel was through the garage and walled up with unfinished drywall. Getting into the guest elevators, the floors were pretty dirty. Upon arriving at room 210 (the check in desk relocated to a guest room), we learned for the first time that the construction was VERY behind schedule and expected to finished sometime between February and April. Upon arriving on the fourth floor, we discovered construction materials immediately off the elevator and some unfinished surfaces. The guest rooms were pretty much as usual with no appearance of being upgraded yet. However, for each day of our stay, we could hear construction occurring immediately above us. We have generally enjoyed our stays at Hotel 43 in the past, appreciated the unique character of the hotel and the convenience of being right downtown. However, I'm not sure that we'd go back given the lack of transparency about the real state of the hotel during the remodeling project. We booked 5 rooms and really talked the place up and we left disappointed and embarrassed.
