This resort, although very pricey, is spectacular. This is/was a bucket list trip to stay on Bora Bora in an overwater bungalow. You are assigned a personal butler the minute you arrive and the butler takes care of any needs you have during your stay. The resort has a large two-level infinity pool adjacent to the beach and a swim up pool bar. The pool bar has a happy hour every day from 3-4 pm (drink prices drop from $26-$28 US to about $15 US). You can save a little $ by taking the water taxi in the a.m. to the main town on the island and shopping at Chin Lee's supermarket for snacks, beer & wine for your own Happy Hour. The beach is some of the best sand in the world (fine and white). We went in early October and it did not rain, but was windy several of the days. There is good snorkeling just off the resort beach and any snorkel tour around the island and motu will be amazing. On our snorkel tour we swam with black tipped reef sharks, saw a large group of Eagle Rays and a huge Manta Ray along with hundreds of tropical fish and had a lunch on a table in the water on a motu. The resort has four restaurants (French, Chinese, sushi and pool restaurant)[advance reservations recommended]. The views at sunset every night from three locations at the resort are amazing (between the 2 Presidential Suites, the Sunset Pier (depending on the season) and from the viewing deck behind the Spa looking at the main island one way and sunset the other way). The resort is fairly large with two full loops around the longest enlarged walking path (i.e. going to the end of each of the piers and side piers on the main route) totaling about 4.5 miles. Due to the size of the resort, we used the free/available beach cruiser bikes every day to get around. There was one glitch with our stay (the noise and debris from nearby roof replacement construction on our pier), but when I raised our concerns, our butler Lawrence and the General Manager of the hotel, Fabian, were very good about addressing and resolving our complaints to our total satisfaction and checking in with us for the rest or our stay. It was also a little frustrating, for the price you are paying per night for your room, for the Conrad to charge for the water taxi to the airport and any water taxi to the main island in the evenings. However, all in all, our stay was wonderful and our time at the Conrad beautiful and very enjoyable.

My partner and I just needed a break from it all and decided to give French Polynesia a try. We also wanted to be pampered at bit, so we settled on the Four Seasons Bora Bora. It's a Four Seasons resort, so it's pricey and we went in expecting a lot. We were not disappointed. We both felt heard, appreciated, and well attended to by Four Seasons staff from our arrival at the airport through our departure. The chat service, in particular, made it a five-star experience. It was like having a personal butler. The spa facilities are a little sp****, and some of the electric lounge chairs in the relaxation area were broken and could not be adjusted. The relaxation area in the spa was also used by a number of guests as a waiting area for the time between checkout and their departure for the airport, so it was not the kind of quiet relaxation area that one might expect to find at a spa. The snacks in the relaxation area were also underwhelming for a Four Seasons. Having said all of that, the fitness center was very well appointed, and my 80-minute massage may have been the best I have ever experienced. And, at the end of the day, who goes to Bora Bora for the spa experience? The food options are limited compared to more urbanized islands like Hawaii, but were better than we expected. The daily breakfast buffet did not change much from day to day, but there was a good variety of fresh fruit and the food was tasty and well-prepared. The omelets and baked goods were particularly delicious! There were two restaurants for dinner options (three during the high season), and there was enough variety in the menus to keep us from getting bored during our five-night stay. Most importantly, peace and quiet prevailed throughout the resort--from the bungalows to the restaurants to the lagoons and pools. We were in search of a break from noise and pace of our work-a-day world, and we found it. There are excursions and activities that can be arranged through the resort, of course, but we really just wanted to lay around and soak up sun and ocean without interruptions, without schedules, without extraneous noise, and without having to make a lot of decisions. We found the perfect spot at the Four Seasons Bora Bora, and will definitely return when we need to find our Zen again.
