Hotel Astoria

Sylvia and Ludovic were very welcoming and helpful, particularly offering assistance as I navigated challenges with the inter-city trains during the rolling nation-wide public transportation strikes of March 2023. The room was exactly as advertised on-line and was a clean, refreshing space in which to relax after a day of travelling or roaming the city.

Easy, pleasant and well-located city hotel. Good management and friendly and helpful welcome. Large room with A/c and ceiling fan. Very comfortable, also with tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Bed and bathroom and bathroom facilities very good and clean.

On arrival it was chaos….had to carry two suitcases to the 3 rd floor to find the rooms not ready… Returned later and was giving another room after we had to explain the rooms are not ready…had to carry two suitcases back to reception. OK giving another room in the annex next door which in reflection was very quiet and comfy….. Very unsettling welcome and it looks as though the previous owners who where very nice have bugged off and it is not very clear when booking. It wasn’t what we expected.

Great location. Very basic but clean. Comfortable bed. Only sliding door on bathroom so not a lot of privacy. Shower was just ok. Rooms serviced every day. No safe in room. Air con good. Didn’t have breakfast so can’t say how it was.

We booked a night here which gave us enough time to fully explore the medieval city. The rooms were clean, beds comfy and spacious, the staff were polite and breakfast was good for a 2 star hotel. The woman who met us at the desk did her best to speak English which was appreciated

2 stars for a 2 star hotel, whose main advantage is its proximity to the railway station - a 5 min walk at most. TBH I wouldn't have bothered writing a review as our one night stay (prior to catching a train the next day) was unremarkable. However, I had an unusual and costly experience afterwards which is worth relating... Essentially I left my Apple AirPod Pros at the hotel, only realising my mistake a week later while on the plane out of Carcassonne. The hotel made no attempt to contact me. The excellent Find My app located them though, and when I emailed the hotel they suggested I send them an envelope and some stamps! A tricky thing to achieve from the UK, and any decent hotelier would have simply posted them back to me. Instead, I arranged for a courier to collect them via Parcel2Go - an online company which subcontracts to local couriers. They were duly picked up on 1st June, and using the app I watched them progress to Montpellier airport, arriving there on 3rd June... and there they stayed for nearly 3 weeks. No amount of cajoling on my part would convince Parcel2Go that anything was up, despite sending multiple screenshots. Eventually, on the 21st, they started moving again - back to Carcassonne! Sadly their battery ran out the next day, their last position being only a few hundred yards from the Hotel Astoria. Naturally I emailed them - no reply. I hassled Parcel2Go who sent me a scan of the delivery receipt (see photo) to the Astoria, dated 22nd June. I emailed them again a couple of times and still, no reply. The couriers were completely useless of course, but the hoteliers weren't much better and effectively, they have stolen my property. If I were you, I wouldn't stay at this grubby, dishonest hotel.

With Sylvia and Ludovic you are in good hands, they will make sure that you know how to reach the city center and the citadel. The hotel is within walking distance of both so no worries. The room we got was big and well equipped, we had a very nice stay there and our only regret was that we could not stay longer as we had to reach our next destination. A nice experience overall.

Small hotel ran by a sweet woman. We didn’t get breakfast but it smelled delicious! No elevator which was fine for us. Small room. Close to train station.

less than 5min walk from the main train station, about 10min walk to the city centre, 20min walk to la cite. the reception to the hotel rooms is in another building, opposite side of the street. check-in was fast and easy, they kept my suitcase til i could access my room. room is clean, has every you need = kettle, hairdryer, tv, wardrobe, desk, curtains. the area is quiet, clean, safe. i travelled alone and had no issues or concerns during the day or night. highly recommend. one full day for carcassonne is enough. enjoy!
