Absolutely beautiful private hotel run by wonderful hosts. Very welcoming, helpful & genuinely friendly. We stayed in the King Suite, which was very comfortable with a lounge area equipped with a large flatscreen tv, refrigerator plus tea & coffee making facilities, a very nice bathroom & very large bedroom with king bed & also equipped with wardrobes & large flatscreen tv. Downstairs is the breakfast area, guest lounge & outdoor area for relaxing in. Check in is any time after 11am & check out by 11am. They’re happy to store luggage & invite you to use the lounge after check out while waiting for pick up. This was a memorable stay & we hope to return.

I don’t usually write reviews but this is such a beautiful place that I have decided to! I decided to stay one night here before travelling home back down South. After googling new places, I chose The Observatory based in the beautiful William Morris decor! It is really a stunning place to stay if you like good design and architecture. Aside from those already great things, the room was beautiful and comfortable with great colours and design elements. The sitting room or library has the most incredible selection of books that it is worth staying here for those and having a relaxing evening in reading. The artwork along the corridors and in the room is exceptional. If you are a tea or coffee drinker then you will love choice of great quality tea or coffee. If you are a product lover then you will love the freshness of the bathroom products. Last but not least, the staff are friendly and professional and offer some of the best customer service I have come across in recent years. I cannot wait to go on another trip and stay here again. Thank you for creating such a beautiful place in a magically calm area.

We stayed the night after a long day driving. We wanted a good location as only staying overnight. We were warmly welcomed at reception. After settling in and freshen up - great bathroom and ammenities. We took a quick $7 uber to New Regent St (as raining) It was only a 10 min walk home. Slept well in our upgraded (premium) room. Enjoyed a morning walk in Botanical Gardens. Inclusive or parking made it easy for us to access our car for trip to airport the following morning. Definitely stay again

Walkable distance to the city centre. Very nice, comfortable and clean motel. Small setup but very cozy. There's free parking as well, not so common for many hotels in Christchurch. It's also just a 15 mins drive away from airport. Will stay again, need to book way in advance though.

The loveliest - particular thanks to Sam - front desk staff (and efficient too). Excellent location, only a short walk to the centre, and very pleasant if you go through the park. There is also a bus stop directly outside; it will take you to the centre, or go to the bus station and take a trip to Sumner or Lyttleton - both worth a visit. Rooms are spacious and clean, beds comfortable. For some reason though, complimentary water and crisps only appeared on our first day! Useful to have a guest laundry, but be warned there is only one machine for all floors... The kitchen area is fine, but not for those who want to cook up a storm - you need to ask for pots and pans. Not a problem for us as we preferred to eat out (try Rangoon Ruby nearby, good, if somewhat 'neutralized' flavours, as the waitress herself put it!) . Overall a really pleasant stay in a very interesting city.

”I recently stayed at Mayfair Hotel and had a wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and went out of their way to ensure that my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed, with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I slept soundly throughout the night. The hotel's location was also ideal, with easy access to nearby attractions and restaurants. I particularly enjoyed the on-site restaurant, which served delicious food and had a great atmosphere. Overall, I would highly recommend Mayfair Hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient stay. The staff's hospitality and attention to detail truly made my visit memorable, and I look forward to returning in the future.”

We had a Superior Studio apartment. While I guess it was an apartment, it was really the size of a standard studio room in a hotel, with a small kitchenette included. There was nothing wrong with the apartment, but once you opened your suitcases it was a bit cramped. The TV is on a TV stand and the kitchen table, with one chair, was cramped into a corner. A simple act of mounting the TV on the wall would have given much more usable space. The apartment was well maintained and looked reasonably new with ample parking for cars with designated spots in the car park behind the building. We were running late and reception rang us to provide us with a code for the lock box which worked perfectly. An email was also sent, but if I had not answered the phone because I was driving, I would never have gotten the email as I had no internet. Reception advised us that there was a night manager and he would have been able to let us in, so no real problem. Access from the carpark could be challenging with suitcases as depending on which floor you park and which floor your room is on, you may have to negotiate some stairs to get to the floor/lift. Located not far from the CBD and plenty of places to eat other than the size of the room this place was perfect.

I booked our 5 night stay direct with Kimberley the manager, she provided good communication before my arrival and left good instructions on how to enter the property after hours as we were arriving late. We stayed in the King Room with Jacuzzi bath , the room was spacious and warm with good air con and TV, however we thought that the Bedroom carpet could have done with a clean as a few stains here and there, the bathroom was a very good size and had a good shower and nice large jacuzzi bath which we enjoyed . we had breakfast included in our booking and a basic hot breakfast was offered, two different choices, bacon and eggs or eggs benedict, also offered a continental breakfast with juice , cereal and toast, although not a huge breakfast choice it was adequate and we enjoyed it. The property is well situated and only a 10 minute walk to the City Centre, it is also on the tram route and a stop is located just outside the B&B. To sum up, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Grange for a good stay in a very good location at a reasonable cost !!

We were so pleased with our room, bed and pillows were very comfortable, bathroom was clean and the water pressure was excellent.. Reception staff were helpful with our requests and the room service staff do a great job. Location is even better than we expected, being able to walk to Riverside Markets,central shopping and attractions is fantastic. Great value and Highly recommended.

Room was clean. Staff was very helpful. The only thing that i was concerned was room service. They knock on the door at 10am. We arrived late at the hotel after a 7 hours drive before checking in. We are staying at the hotel for 3 days. They should have checked that we are not yet gonna check out til the next day.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights just recently, first arrived at the hotel, the reception was polite enough but not as helpful as any front desk staff coud be. The room was clean and comfy, location was fantastic, environment was superb (quite, few hote guests). But somehow my wife lost her wedding ring from our room. We only noticed by the end of the day, and should have picked up earier. Mr. ************, the hotel manager, made it even worse from a travellers point of view. He has the worse attitude to the whole incident, instead of offering his empathy, he pushed responsibility back to the hotel guests who lost the wedding ring in his room at his hotel. His passive aggression is throughout all the poor google review! He reacted bluntly when questioned about CCTV other than the door access record he could provide immediately, being agreesive at his answer and attitude towards to someone who turned over the room to just look for the missing ring. He was not friendly, empathatic nor welcoming despit he is in hospitality industry. Im not blaming at anyone here or making any accusation on anyone but he as the hotel manager was the only one we could seek help for in a foreign country, and he expected us undedstanding how police and system worked here. To us, he made us sound like *****s and being forgetful on our own properties.

I booked a private double room and wasn't expecting a good sleep because people going up & down the staircase sounded like a herd of rhino's. However, the quiet curfew of 10pm was adhered to and I enjoyed the best sleep I've had in the last 2 months (including my bed at home). The kitchen has plenty of space & the lounge has lots of table seating. The bathrooms were clean and the shower pressure was great. The location of the hostel is fantastic but street parking is metered and limited between 9am-6pm. I arrived on Waitangi Day when parking is free & only stayed 1 night so that worked well. But if you were staying longer finding free parking could be annoying so better to find an all day free spot the night before or leave it in a 24hr parking block. There are free streets but be mindful of residents.

Stayed four nights at this hotel which has a great location and within walking distance to most attractions and restaurants. Check in was good and paid parking plentiful. Unfortunately, the lift was not working on our arrival so we had to leave our luggage in our car and walk up to the third floor. The hotel is dated and grubby as was our room. There was a trolley of dirty towels and linen left in the hallway for over 24 hours during our visit, this is unacceptable! The bed was comfortable but the bathroom towels were very thin. One day we returned to our room at 4.00pm and the room was not made up. I understand the vacated rooms are made up first but after a full day of sightseeing, it would be good to return to a tidied room. I have stayed at various Quest hotels in Australia as I am a member but this is by far the worst. As such, I could not recommend this hotel to other travellers.
