Avoid at all costs! We placed a same day booking for a room at 10am due to a cancelled flight. The booking was accepted and all was going well. We spent the day in Bristol, and when we eventually got the the Guest House around 4/5pm and checked in, we noticed the room was 1) freezing and 2) pitch black. It quickly became evident there was no hot water or electricity in the property. We called the owner to ask what the situation was, and they advised they had been without power since 6am! They advised it should be back on by 7.30pm. Having driven 3 hours, we didn’t fancy turning back, so thought we’d stick out the few hours until the heating and power came back on. (I am sure you can see where this is going, only wish I did). By 9pm, there was still no power or heating to the property, and we had spent that last 3 hours sat in the dark, using our phone torches to navigate, with the batteries quickly dying. By this time, we were pretty over the whole situation, but were unable to find any other properties willing to take a booking on so late in the day. We tried calling the owner again, but they did not pick up our calls, so we resorted to driving and sitting in a local McDonald’s for a few hours to charge our phones and take advantage of the warmth and wifi. We returned to the guesthouse at 11pm, where there was still no power, and the rooms were colder than ever. We visited in the middle of December, so outside it was pitch black, with temperatures near freezing, but the owner did not care to bring round extra duvets, blankets or torches, and as they weren’t answering their phone, we were also unable to request these or any help. Feeling defeated, we got into bed, with jumpers and socks on, and set an alarm to leave first thing in the morning. When we woke up at 8am the next day, there was, perhaps unsurprisingly, still no power. With daylight coming in, we could take in the actual state of the room, which is poor at best. Not an £85 room, even with working electricity. The walls of the rooms are also paper thin, so you can hear others conversations quite clearly. We just wanted to have a shower so we warm up and go, but (of-course you guessed it), there was no hot water! We had to wash in the sink with ice cold water. The owner does not think we are entilited to any form of refund, despite paying full price for the room, and literally freezing to death in the dark. Having looked through other reviews, it seems we are not the only people have experienced this. Very, very poor. Please, find an alternative stay - it isn’t worth it!!
