Overall I did enjoy my stay at the Font D’Argent, though it was let down in a number of areas. Our check-in was quick and easy and the room was very comfortable in general. We loved the spar downstairs and the ski locker room was very handy before going out on the slopes. The highlight was the catering staff, from the servers to the chefs, who were always highly welcoming and did their best to attend to our needs. Beginning with the food provision, it was disappointing how few meat-free options were available. Additionally, the placards were highly inconsistent with displaying the contents of a dish, for those with dietary requirements and allergies, of which my party had both. Our room keys would demagnetise, meaning we had to repeatedly have them reset by reception. Once or twice may be expected, but when it was happening daily, this became an unnecessary frustration. Our en suite didn’t seem to have a working extractor fan, so water vapour and bathroom smells would fill the room unless we kept the door closed at all times. We also needed to open the large window onto the noisy street in order to receive fresh air daily. The sound proofing was otherwise very good, but it was unfortunate that this was necessitated by lack of an extractor fan. The worst part of our stay was the neighbours in the rooms across from us, who would play loud music with the door open and smoke so that the smell was actually strong in our room. We spoke to them, and then complained to the reception when this didn’t stop, but little seemed to be done. Considering how strong the smell was in the corridor, it was actually worrying that none of the fire alarms went off. While it was chance that we happened to be living across from such people, we would have liked to see more evidence of action being taken by the staff, or at least reassurance that they were doing all that they could. Overall I did very much like this hotel, and again the highlight was the lovely catering staff. Unfortunately our stay was somewhat spoiled by a number of things coming together.
