Hôtel le Médina Essaouira Thalassa Sea & Spa - MGallery

After reading some of the reviews before staying at this hotel I have to say I'm not surprised. I totally agree with the comments that this is not a true 5 star hotel at all. The positives are the location, the pool area and the rooms (to an extent). From one way its only a short walk to the medina and from the other it's a short walk to the beach bars. The pool area is well maintained and very attracting. The rooms are a good size with comfy bed and powerful shower and they are very clean. However, we started off by having to change rooms as the room we were first given had a chipped bath - all the paint had come up off the bottom of the bath so it was unusable, the staff solved this pretty quickly by offering us a room of the same standard one floor above. Nevertheless, I find it shocking that a 5 star hotel would not maintain their rooms in the first place. We found the cleaning staff and concierges very friendly. Some of the breakfast staff and beach staff, less so. One day we sat on the beach beds and felt looked down on and were not treated as well as some of the other guests. This really put us off and prevented us using this area again. Not sure if this is because we are a younger/mixed couple? Overall, the hotel is lacking in a lot of areas and the Accor group need to look into this. I would definitely visit Essaouira again but would probably rent an apartment since the beach and medina have so many options anyway!

Large groups of students aren't the easiest customers, but La Perle de Mogador provided a top-notch experience for everyone. During our stay, it was very rainy and they still were incredibly welcoming as we trudged water and dirt through their lobby. The hotel was incredibly clean and hospitable, 10/10 experience, would stay here again.

Oh dear, where do I start with this review? This is my 3rd visit to this hotel. We new when we booked from our last visit that the hotel was tired but we were shocked when we arrived. We had requested single beds and our request was not satisfied, with the hotel saying no other rooms were available. They provided us with an extra bed on the 2nd day but it was squashed into our room so it did not feel like a 5* experience at all. The room was dirty and the decor very tired. There were ants nests in the room and silverfish. The hotel came and cleaned the room for us, but it made no difference to the insects at all. The housekeeping was a disgrace and it took us 3 days and 4 visits by staff for us to get cups and glasses in the room. The hotel corridors were grubby with scuffed and damaged walls, filthy windows and dust everywhere. Additionally, the main pool was closed for the foreseeable future and this was one of the main reasons we had booked the hotel. Another freshwater pool was available but this was not suitable for disabled people, which one of us is. After 3 days we were in tears and wanted to come home. I asked to speak to the manager, ho was never available. The reception staff were, on the whole, sympathetic and supportive but would not transfer us to another hotel. After lengthy discussions they moved us to a villa, which was amazing. We lost the first 3/4 days of our holiday miserably but the rest of it was amazing. The housekeeping, cleaning and attentiveness of the villa staff was excellent so I have no idea why the same can’t be applied to the hotel itself. There are so many wonderful things here - the views, the grounds, the restaurant food, which has a limited menu but we loved it. There are some issues - staff members removing the used cutlery from our empty plates then putting them back on the table for us to reuse; waiting ages for coffee at breakfast; No after available at dinner unless you pay for it; always having to ask for napkins and salt and pepper. All these things add up and can be annoying. Cockroaches in the restaurant ladies toilet - I have a phobia of them and nearly screamed the place down! We also had a bad experience at the bar - the service was poor and we gave up waiting for table service and we were overcharged for drinks. Querying the bill, we were surrounded by 6 men ho were all being aggressive and tried to force us to pay for cocktails we never received. This was extremely unpleasant as we are 2 females so I reluctantly signed the bill, which we paid on checkout as we were simply too exhausted by the problems to complain further. All ran smoothly until we checked out. Our taxi transfer to Marrakech airport didn’t arrive. I had been to reception twice in the previous days to ensure it was all booked for us and referred to the concierge. Despite this, the taxi still failed to arrive at all, with no assistance at all from either honing the Voyages Privee helpline or the hotel reception. Both sides just ke
Hôtel des Iles

The best feature of this place is the location, just across from the beach and a very short walk to the lovely Medina. I’m sure it would have been a deluxe place to stay a number of decades ago but it is in serious need of a complete renovation. The rooms don’t have air conditioning, a fridge of any sort and no windows to open just the sliding door onto the porch which we kept open, to find a cat sleeping in the room with us in the morning. Lucky we like cats. The pool is big and cool but inundated by seagulls. Breakfast was good and in a big, elegant room. Our fellow travellers used their room towels for the beach and then found it extremely difficult to get a replacement towel. Great spot but can’t recommend unless it’s a bargain price and you don’t mind old and run-down.
