Grosvenor Guest House

Please avoid this place as on line bookings doesn't work at all. We been let down big time. Arrived on the day with reservation documents and no one knows about your reservation. Lady who in charge are drunk and don't have a clue. Contact numbers provided are not working at all. Place are dirty and stinky. Left really disappointed

Arrived and no one answered the door. The owner was in the basement squatting flies on the window but wouldn’t open door. Neighbour said she is an alcoholic and just sits up all night making noise and drinking. Booked through *******. Phone number doesn’t work neither.

OMG! Where do I begin! OK, gift voucher given to us by family from 'Buy-a-Gift'.(who may also be a con as they can't spell preferred (preffered: yeah!)) Anyway, The Grosvenor Guesthouse looks like it's in a street of crack houses to start with. Now, bear in mind we had to add £72 to the booking for our two nights (1 & 2 June), we arrived, rang bell. Nothing, as it certainly didn't sound as though it worked! Rang a few times, and still not a murmur from within. Called the number on the booking email which was the same as that which was on the signage! Doesn't actually ring, but just clicks off after a few seconds! AND emailed the 'proprietor'. Nadal! We've clearly been had! Not about to spend anymore time in dubious-looking area, we both decide to get a train home! Bear in mind we've already sat on one train for an hour to get from home to central London, then another TWO hours on another train to get to Hastings as well as the ensuing cost! So after a pit-stop in a cafe, drink/loo, we head back to station to spend MORE bloomin' money (£47.80!) and head home! All day Saturday wasted as well as money, and the gift purchased for us being wasted too!

I booked 2 nights through ******* in this sort of guest house more similar to a community center. I arrived at 1.30pm and no one opened the front door. I tried to call but the phone was out of order. I wrote 3 emails telling the owner that I was out there but no response. It was 2.30pm and I was out there waiting but nothing. I saw a neighbor who advised me to knock on the basement door where the owner of the guest house lives. Nothing. Hours passed, it was 3pm and finally the lady (drunk and otherwise...) opened the door of her house telling me to look for another place to stay. I explained to her that I have already paid to *******. She then told me to come back in 1 hour. At 4pm I came back and she tried to give me a very dirty room with the bed still to be made. The window was broken, I changed room. Even worse. It was 4.30pm and I'm tired, so I helped her make the bed. I cleaned the bathroom because she was not in a position to do it. The room key could not be found (it was open when I arrived). I changed room again. There was no hot water. At 5.30pm. I decided to leave. The lady was happy. I called ******* who was unable to do anything, they promised me a ticket in 72 hours. ******* never again. Incompetent. I found another accommodation. Be careful!!!! Unfortunately I discovered late that many have had the same problem. She's dishonest. She continues to leave his Guest House on Booking and ******* but it is no longer a place to frequent. A mess everywhere. Blood stained sheets, dirt from catching diseases, disgusting! I cannot describe the room and the bathroom. I've never ever seen something like this. Now I'm waiting for a fully refund from ******* who however was not able to sort it out. People don't go to this guest house. It's a scam!

This place needs to be either taken over or shut down. I arrived at the property and there was no one there, the contact number for the business doesn't work so it was impossible to get hold of the owner. I sent an email but there was no response either. I called the other guest house on the same street to see if they knew the owner, after 45 minutes of walking around, knocking on the neighbours' door, and calling the other place, I found out she lives in the basement. I knocked and knocked and there was no response. I was parked outside the property and sat in my car for a further 15 minutes looking up other places to stay when I luckily saw a man come from the basement! I jumped out my car and he got the owner. I explained that i'd booked a room for 3 nights and have been waiting for an hour, and knocking on her door. She didn't apologise. I wasn't even sure if she knew i was arriving, she said she couldn't access her emails because her phone was stolen, i regret asking how, someone broke into the property and stole it. You can imagine how safe i felt then! She then told me that she hadn't received any money from me, she asked me who i had paid and that I need to call ******* to find out who the money was sent to, I was not going to do her job for her. I showed her the bank transaction and the confirmation emails i had been sent, she then proceed to ask me to pay her for a nights stay and she will come to see me the next day, i refused as i had already paid. She gave me a key to my room, and i stayed for 2 nights and never saw the owner again.

They accepted my booking, I then travelled 3 hours to stay there. I rang on the doorbell, no answer. I rang the number, no answer. I messaged on Airbnb, no answer. I emailed, an answer! Two sentences, heavy typos saying they wouldn't let me in and refusing to offer any money back. It left me on the street that night and looking at other reviews here and on Google I can see I'm not the only person this has happened to. Avoid this place at all costs, they are con artists.
