We’ve just returned from a lovely week and we’ve already booked again for next year. It’s a beautiful place with many things that we were able to take for granted as it’s a 5* hotel but the main thing is that the staff are absolutely brilliant. I would like to particularly mention Erika, Julieta, Martin, Teresa and Moises but also the gentleman from Brazil on concierge and the gentleman by the pool who was always so helpful finding us sunbeds. They are all clearly proud to work at the hotel and do their best to look after their guests. We ate at Perseo every evening and we were looked after so well. Being respectful and pleasant to the people looking after you goes a long way to ensure you have a nice experience.

We were welcomed after a 15 minute taxi ride from the airport. I had mentioned I’m a gold member of Melia but we didn’t receive an upgrade to a nicer room unfortunately. The room has a nice bed but a kingsize would be nice if you are a couple. The breakfast was really nice and abundant. For meals I would go somewhere in the neighbourhood. The sea access was really nice and we had a good swim in October which was a nice bonus. It’s a nice hotel that we recommend even though Melia should update their reward program. How hard is it to put in there that upgrades might be given if rooms are available in a higher category.

A truly fabulous hotel, perfect location, beautiful design, and most of all the most amazing team. We have stayed here several times a year for the last few years, and it is super every time. The staff are wonderful and always make the hotel feel like home, nothing is ever too much. Can't recommend highly enough, and we can't wait to see you all again soon.

Hotel credit card FRAUD: A week ago, I’ve written the following review where I’ve mentioned that the hotel has written down my credit card information on a physical piece of paper at check-in and kept it on file. I have not used that card anywhere else since then as it is my “travel card” and only Gran Melia has had access to it. On June 12, 2024, a week after checking out, I’ve experienced credit card fraud when someone, most likely from Gran Melia, attempted to purchase items from an EU website - where I do not live - using my card!!! Beware. ______ I’m giving it two stars because the staff is friendly, the location and property is beautiful, and the food is very good. The rooms are also spacious and have amazing views. However, the staff is mostly incompetent. Starting with the concierge, more than once they booked restaurant reservations only for us to arrive to no booking at the restaurant. One of the restaurant reservations was canceled by the concierge themselves on the day of the reservation. I don’t understand why the concierge is difficult to deal with. At check-in, the staff member who checked us in wrote down my credit card details on a piece of paper and kept it on file. This is extremely unprofessional and it’s a security risk. The housekeeping would not change the used towels, they would simply fold them and put them back on. How disgusting. At checkout I was told I was told I had a redeemable €100 at any of the hotel’s restaurants but somehow was never told at check-in. Why would I not be told earlier? No one helped us with our bags at checkout. The majority of the staff spoke English with difficulty.

This is a delightful hotel. The staff are welcoming, polite and attentive, the food is excellent, buffet breakfast includes cava and smoked salmon. There is no shortage of sunbeds, water is replaced in the room every day. All this and it's only 20 minutes from the airport - I don't often give 5 stars but this place deserves it.

After 11 years we returned to Hotel de Mar. It was as lovely as ever. Excellent service, very comfortable room and great breakfast buffet. Our friends were Red Level, but apart from an extra few items on the breakfast menu plus free snacks and drinks in the afternoon there was no discernible advantage. They said if they returned they would not be Red Level. I think Red Level is worth having at a family hotel so as to have a quiet pool and restaurant for their use. De Mar is adults only so not really necessary. We were 3 couples and all would definitely return.

My wife and I had an amazing experience at the Gran Melia for our honeymoon. The staff was incredibly friendly, and we found the amenities to be impeccable. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for a relaxing getaway and five-star experience

I had a strange experience at this hotel. I booked a king room and after checking in, realised I'd been given a twin (the type where the mattresses split apart as soon as you lie on the bed). I called to ask for it to be altered to a king and was told it'd be done right away. 4 hours later this wasn't done, so I went to reception and spoke to the manager. Again, I was told it would be done straight away. After coming back from dinner, now 6 hours after check in, it was still a twin room. I went back down to reception, and was told that there must have been a miscommunication by me and housekeeping was busy and they would do it when they had time. They became quite argumentative and said that it was a miscommunication which I felt was quite disrespectful after booking a king, calling, and visiting reception twice. In the end, I felt the reception was so abrasive about the problem that I checked out and asked for a refund - it just wasn't a relaxing experience for a 600eur a night room. I still don't understand why they didn't just say sorry and fix the problem. Otherwise, the hotel lift was dirty, the corridors felt tired and had marks on the walls / doors, and the toilet was sandwiched between two walls about 3 feet apart so felt quite uncomfortably claustrophobic. Overall it was way apart from a 5* hotel. I checked in instead at the St Regis up the road which felt like a world apart. On the upside, they did agree to a refund straight away and the view from the sea view rooms is amazing.
