"We love this quaint spot, there's a lot of variety of public bath (for women as I can only comment for it) - you can even visit their sister shop nearby. Location wise - it's not walking distance to the main onsen town, but it means it's bigger. We travel in a group of 8 and slept in a 4-person room with a private onsen inside, which was awesome. Amenities were great and the food was so amazing!! The eel dinner was just mindblowing. The staff there were super attentive and there was one of them who speaks Chinese that made everything easy as well. There was a male staff who sent us out, helped us take lots of great photos - he did much more than we asked him to."

"No elevator so prepare small luggage would be better. The hotel will hand out voucher for Onsen at another location (walkable distance) but they have one inside the building but the water temperature is very hot. Room is cozy. Location is slightly far from central spot but can still walk or drive. Overall with the price, convenient and value for money. Would like to spend more time there"

"I had a great stay at this Kurokawa Onsen ryokan. The staff are very warm and hospitable and they have English speaking staff. I liked that this ryokan has 9 different options for a private onsen that you can choose from. These don’t require a reservation but are on a first come first served basis. The rooms were fine but walls are a bit thin which means you can hear outside noise more easily. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were good. This ryokan is in a good location right at the centre of town. They also have a shuttle service to get you to the bus stop at check out. Overall I would recommend this ryokan."

"Kurokawa onsen was the highlight of my trip to Kyushu. So I splurged on this accomodation. I chose a room with river view and it was the best decision. Love the stay so much. Staffs were lovely and helpful. They speak good English and Mandarin. Lobby was spacious. Plenty of spaces to chill and chat as a family. The onsens were abundance to choose from. Breakfast was awesome, so was dinner. We got the room with 2 beds and 2 futons. We all enjoyed our stay so much"

"Location was nearby to the shopping street and overall the experience was good at the ryokan. The staff will try to communicate even though they are not fluent in English. The meals served was pretty good."

"This stay at Ryokan Sanga is faultless, from service, to food, hot springs to everything, it’s so thoughtfully set up and delivered. It’s not a luxury place but our stay there is well beyond luxury. Love it so much and have no hesitation to recommend it. Worth all the travel to meet the nice people in this wonderland of onset."

"Pros- spacious villa, quality bedding and large private indoor onsen( see picture 13). We also like the public outdoor onsen in the sister ryokan nearby. There is a little cafe there you can buy drinks and coffee, run by an adorable old couple, very nice and polite. We spent a lot of time there just chilling and listening to the music. Cons- Living room: we were only able to book the western style villa as it’s a little last minute trip. The living room is basic, bland, with sofa, instead or tatami. Our room 512 is next to the car park. Parking lot in front of your main door is not very pleasant. Food : just soso. Nothing extraordinary. See picture. No horse sashimi, the presentation of the steak is really ordinary - disappointing. Perhaps because we had such an amazing meals in the previous ryokan this became a massive letdown. Dinner served in a large public dining room, lack of the privacy and intimacy ther ryokan provide ( we had private dining room in another ryokan 野之花during this trip). I got to see other couples but also feeling like we are being watched. Service- served by young people, not much attentiveness you would expect in traditional ryokan, lack of the warmth and ritual. Reception- 3 star at best. A basic room with uncomfortable chair while you wait to be checked in. We arrived around 2:30pm, and was told that check in can only start at 3pm, and please wait. So we sat at the hard chair and forced to watch the promotional video until 3pm. Conclusion - 3.5 star ryokan, not the most exciting or exclusive villa we have stayed. Maybe it would get better once the trees grow thicker and staff better trained. The sister Ryokan nearby has better feel of environment and feels more established."

"Best stay! Kurokawa onsen itself was amazing but this stay made it better. I’m vegan and gluten free. With short notice both dinner and breakfast was arranged just like regular Kaiseki style. They were beautiful and delicious. Owner was kind and helpful. Stuff was wonderful. Hot spring was nice both indoor and outdoor. I was sad to leave knowing probably this was the best stay during our trip. Highly recommended!"

"酒店位於高原的平原上，空氣清新，附近風景很美，但地點比較偏遠適合自駕遊旅客，去阿蘇火山很近。 我入住新館，因為剛剛翻新，所以房間比較大，房間裝修很新，佈置簡潔，陽台外風景很美，住得舒適。 前台服務員是外籍人士，容易溝通及有禮貌，當我查問有沒有房內有私人溫泉池的房間可讓我們升級入住時，服務員主動為我安排一個家族風呂在我們指定的時段免費享用，這點很貼心。 酒店提供的自助晚餐及早餐一般，食物款式不算多及不夠熱，這是唯一令我們失望的地方。"
