Hotel Kalehan

We were on a tour and spent a couple of nights at this hotel. It's in a good location across the street from a food and liquor market, some restaurants and close to shopping. The grounds of the hotel are nice and they have a great outdoor pool that we enjoyed. Breakfasts were good and the one dinner we had there was good as well. Our room was spacious and had goo AC and a fridge. The shower was good. I'd stay there again.

The hotel features a terrace restaurant, garden patio and an outdoor pool with a sundeck. The entrance and parking lot are wheelchair accessible, though many of the rooms are not. The beds in our room seemed to be sway-back and I suspect the matrasses need swapping. The towels were not new, but were adequate. Pets are welcome. There is an airport shuttle service available. The free breakfast is self-serve (omelets are also available) and fairly comprehensive. The rooms are “amenity-lite” with no mini-safe or slippers (in Türkiye, shoes are not worn in the house or in hotel rooms, so slippers are frequently provided for use in toilets). The hotel’s construction (by the current proprietress’s father) in 1980 included loads of salvaged details from older structures and the decoration includes numerous collections of items – some interesting, some eclectic, some puzzling. One of the hotel’s strong suits is their cooking. The dinner meal was imaginative and likely the best meal you are going to find in this town. Ayse, the proprietress, is pleasantly loquacious and her advice was spot-on.

We stayed in this beautiful hotel for 2 nights and if visiting Ephesus would highly recommend a stay. Ayse and her team are very helpful and provide a wonderful breakfast. Dinner is also offered but unfortunately we didn’t get to try it. The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk into Seluck and the main bus stop. The garden is so tranquil as well as a very inviting pool. We stayed in a Standard Room although small it was ok. Would suggest booking the Special Room if you want a bit more space. Please don’t hesitate in booking as it truly is a gem.

This is truly a sanctuary walking distance from town, bus station, Ephesus Museum. The garden is beautiful and the swimming pool welcoming after a hard day's sightseeing. The owner, Ayse Ergir, is so very gracious and hospitable. And the food, dinner and breakfast, is good! The decor is amazing, the rooms and bed comfortable, bathrooms spacious. The hotel and rooms are set back from the main road so traffic noise is not an issue.

The location of Kalehan is great for all the sites, the town, train station, and bus station. The facilities are really good, there is a lovely pool, fabulous restaurant and a resident family of tortoise, that are too cute for words. But above all, the service is excellent. Ayse hanim responded to my requests prior to arrival via email very efficiently. Mehmet bey (manager) ensured we had all our requests met, was extremely welcoming and helpful with transport arrangements. Melisa on reception was always there with a beautiful welcoming smile and always ready to help. Abiding Bey was there every day, all day from serving breakfast to the evening meal in the restaurant. No requests was too big or too small for him. He has a fantastic memory, not only for names, but for what you like to eat, drink and how you like them. He has worked at the hotel for 27 years and takes much pride in all that he does. Mustafa bey is an excellent chef, the food at the restaurant has a modern twist on Turkish classics using fresh local produce that tastes absolutely delicious. Hatice, Ahsen and Nurdan hanims are exceptional housekeepers. By the time we finished breakfast, our room was cleaned, bed made, clean towels, and bedding if needed every day. They even made fancy swans out of towels on our beds every day. We were lucky to have received an upgrade to a beautiful room (207) that was more of a suite, than a room. The beautiful antique furniture, turkish rugs, super powerful air conditioning, fabulous bathroom and king size bed made this room our haven after our excursion and the heat of the day. The hotel has a fabulous view of Ayasuluk Castle and is within walking distance to the Temple of Artemis and depending how mobile you are to Ephesus (approx 3 kilometres). If going to Selçuk you can not go wrong with this hotel that prides itself on its service and welcome. Staying here you can experience real genuine Turkish hospitality at its best. Delightful family owned boutique hotel built in 1980s. Nestled 7km away from Ephesus. Charming owner, Ayse, who is now a friend - staff are lovely and the food is wonderful. Highly recommended. Thanks to Team Kalehan for a lovely stay.
