What a welcome! The hotel is tucked away in the hills above Kandy, although within easy reach of the city. It offers spectacular views of the city, jungle and the Knuckles Mountain Range. Head just past Helga's Folly and it will be the first property on your right. Go down the stairs on arrival and you'll be greeted by the friendliest staff with cold towels and a cooling drink. We were staying in the lake view junior suite located on the top floor with wonderful views of Kandy below. The room is huge with a tall vaulted ceiling and a four poster canopy bed. The bathroom is one of the largest we've seen in Sri Lanka. Each room has a roll top bath and walk in shower. They also provide a coffee body scrub but no individual shampoo/body wash etc. There is a good hairdryer provided and a laptop sized safe. They had UK plugs, a fan in place of AC which works well and you don't really need AC here. The infinity pool here is lovely and refreshing but not too cold, even on a cooler day in December. There are comfortable loungers and pool towels provided. Breakfast was superb. We enjoyed fruits, toast (the first actual toast on our trip, mostly it's warm bread), hoppers and a Sri Lankan omelette. On our departure day we had an early start to catch the train and they kindly made us up a breakfast bag with fruits and sandwiches. We also enjoyed a traditional Sri Lankan dinner in the evening which was delicious. The property has a lovely verandah and so no matter what the weather you can enjoy a meal outdoors overlooking the city lights. The staff are just wonderful and cater to every need. Everything is just perfect here from the cleaning (everything sparkles) to the placing of cutlery. One day we were relaxing and we were offered cinnamon tea and cucumber sandwiches which was lovely as we'd not had lunch as we'd been travelling. Thank you to Adrian, the chef Dinusha, Sameer and the gardener/security guy whose name we didn't get but was lovely. The genial proprietor himself spoke to us at length, and went out of his way to make us feel like part of the family. I couldn't think of a better place to stay in Kandy. Close enough to town but far enough away to enjoy the tranquility and views.
