Check-in and Check out service was quick and excellent so 5 stars for that to the Reception staff. Although no electric kettles in rooms, both hot and cold water available in the corridors of each floor, 24 hours a day for you to make your own drinks (Tea, Coffee, etc are not provided by the hostel). Hot shower in the private bathroom. Bathroom mirror on side of the basin (instead of opposite) which means you have to look sideways over the basin to shave-this is not the correct location but there is no wall space (taken up by a small window in the bathroom) where the mirror should be. I am sure YMCA will address this in the new accommodation they are going to build. I found the room layout and comfort level to be average. The hostel as an on site cafe with a good range of dishes and drinks to choose from and seems quite popular. Within the hostel premises, there are other services on offer which guests will find useful such as a laundrette, barbershop and a lock smith.
On the negative side, The service from one lady wearing a hijab (sorry I don't now her name) was disappointing though. I had put up a Do not Disturb sign outside my door the previous night as I was feeling poorly and did not wish to be disturbed before 12 noon the next day and she had respected my wishes so that was great. However, around 1pm, as I left the room to go to collect my laundry from YMCA launderette (yes they have one!), I saw the housekeepig lady with the hijab (I am sorry I don't know her name) working further away into the corridor so I approached her to let her know that the room can now be cleaned/made up as I was now going out for a few minutes and that I have put up the relevant sign Make up my room on the door. I told her of the room number and she said ok she will attend to it. However, on my return to the room later in the evening, it was disappointing to discover that the room had not been cleaned/made up or the waste bins emptied nor a new towel replenished. I thought I would mention it to her when I see her again next day so did not say anything about it to anyone else that day. Next day, around 12 noon (my check out time), I saw a couple of Housekeeping staff guys in the corridor so I took the opportunity to raise the previous day's issue of room not being done with them. When I explained that, despite being reminded by me, the housekeeping lady wearing the hijab had failed to carry out her duties satisfactorily, they knew immediately who it was so I left it with them to address it in their own way, as I was checking out that day.
