The transportation is convenient and the service is exceptionally thoughtful.

The hotel's location is fantastic! There's a bus stop right downstairs. The concierge on the first floor helped us book bus tickets to Aso and Kagoshima, making our travel super smooth. It was much more convenient than going to the bus terminal ourselves. The room was compact but well-arranged, and all the toiletries were provided, even face wash, toner, and lotion from LA MER. You can pretty much just pack your bags and move in. Right across the street are the Tsuruya Department Store and the entrance to Shimotori, so dining and shopping were incredibly convenient.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Very convenient location which a lot of restaurants and shopping places nearby.

The location is superb. After arriving at Kumamoto Airport, you can take the airport bus to 'Kamitori' and the hotel is right there. It's in the heart of Kumamoto city, directly opposite a classic department store with Kumamoto-themed products, perfect for shopping. The tram stop is just a short walk away, offering easy access to the JR station and various attractions. The commercial pedestrian street is right next door, making it incredibly convenient for finding food every day. From my room window, I could see Kumamoto Castle. The room was clean, and I was especially pleased with the separate wet and dry areas in the bathroom. Although the hotel is a bit old, the rooms have been renovated, and the air conditioning is very powerful. Upon entering the room, there was a faint scent of disinfectant, which made me feel very assured about the cleanliness – typical of an established Japanese brand. You can tell the hallway carpets are old, but there was no musty smell, so I was satisfied with the hygiene. Next time I visit Kumamoto, I'll definitely stay here again. It's just too convenient!

The room wasn't huge, but it was quite comfortable, and you could see Kumamoto Castle right from the window. For breakfast, you could choose between a buffet or traditional Japanese. Since we'd had enough Japanese breakfast at the onsen hotel before this, we opted for the Western-style buffet both days. The variety was great, and they even had the popular Aso Volcano milk! If I had known, I wouldn't have bought so much milk in Aso and carried it all the way here. The hotel is right across from Tsuruya Department Store, which makes it super convenient to go see the Kumamon performance. There are plenty of dining and shopping options nearby too.

Before coming to Kumamoto, I noticed that some hotels here were a bit small and old. After comparing a few, I decided to go with the long-established local brand, Nikko Hotel, and it turned out to be a very wise choice! The hotel is right in the city center, directly opposite Tsuruya Department Store. Pedestrian streets like Shimotori and Ginza-dori are just a few minutes' walk away, lined with countless restaurants, izakayas, bars, and drugstores. Although the hotel has been around for some time, it's very well-maintained and clean, clearly showing the elegance of a classic high-end hotel. Both the rooms and shower areas are quite spacious. For breakfast, you have two options: a Japanese-style meal on the 7th floor or a buffet on the 2nd floor, which offers a rich variety of delicious dishes. The concierge was exceptionally helpful and polite, assisting with Shinkansen schedules and calling taxis. They even kept bowing until we got into the car.

The front desk staff spoke excellent English, making communication smooth. The hotel's location is fantastic; there's a bus stop right outside, and shopping malls are directly across the street, as well as behind the building. Kumamoto Bus Terminal is also within walking distance. Plus, there's a restaurant called Flour across the street that serves amazing toast! The room was spacious, and the bathroom was very clean, even providing skincare samples. Great stay! 👍🏻

Hotel Nikko Kumamoto maintains very high standard of service. Greeters were always smiling at the hotel lobby and lift area. We were lucky to get a Room with Castle view. Location was perfect, right opposite Tsuruya Departmental Store and beside Shimotori shopping srreet. Breakfast spread was excellent. Highly recommended!

The location is excellent! There's a bus stop right outside for Fukuoka, and the streetcar makes it easy to get to nearby attractions. Tsutaya Department Store is across the street, which is great for shopping and seeing Kumamon's show. The room was clean, but there were cobwebs under the lamp in the lobby.

This is my second time staying at this hotel in Kumamoto, and it offers great value for money. The location is absolutely fantastic; all the shopping spots are right on your doorstep. Our room had a view of Kumamoto Castle, and they can add an extra bed, so it was no problem for our family of five to sleep comfortably! The hotel staff also provide excellent service. Every time I've been here, the front desk has been incredibly helpful with booking restaurants and ferries, no issues at all 🙋‍♀️. However, on-site parking is quite expensive, as you can see in picture three, so we chose to park nearby.

Our family of three stayed in a king room. This is an older, well-established hotel with four restaurants. While the facilities are a bit dated, the room was quite spacious for Japan. Cleanliness was good, and the soundproofing was excellent – we didn't hear any noise from the adjacent rooms or hallway. The hotel also provides umbrellas for guests on rainy days. Its central location is fantastic, right next to the Kamitori/Shimotori shopping arcade, and within walking distance of Kumamoto Castle and the Kumamon Office. There's a bus stop right outside, and a short stroll leads to the charming old tram line. We stayed for two nights and tried the hotel's breakfast on one of those mornings. Our booking included breakfast for two, which was cheaper than paying for it separately at the hotel (JPY 3400 for adults, JPY 1700 for children). The breakfast experience was decent, and they even offered cooked horse meat, which was an interesting option to try. I think online travel agencies like Ctrip could improve the booking process by offering more detailed options. For example, when booking a two-night stay, it would be much more convenient if travelers could choose whether to include breakfast for each specific day. Regarding the price, it's worth checking back every few days as rates tend to fluctuate, and combined with exchange rate changes, you might find some noticeable differences.

Car parking is not cheap and the parking space is very narrow. The hotel is clean.

Hotel Nikko truly lives up to its reputation as a standard-bearer for Japanese hospitality – with impeccable five-star facilities and service. The hotel is located in Torichosuji, about a 10-minute walk from Sakuramachi Bus Terminal. It’s directly opposite Tsuruya Department Store, and a bustling shopping street with several pharmacies and numerous dining options is right next door. I especially recommend checking out Sakuramachi Sakura Mall for some serious retail therapy! 😂 Personally, I found staying near Kumamoto Bus Terminal much more convenient. Buses offer extensive and affordable coverage to most destinations. Kumamoto’s JR train services aren't very frequent, and while they might save a little time, transfers can be cumbersome and much more expensive. The room was very spacious. Our triple room had two large beds pushed together, which was perfectly sufficient for sleeping. It also featured a capsule coffee machine and complimentary La Mer toiletries – a truly luxurious touch! The lobby is bright and spacious, making every entrance and exit a pleasant experience. The senior lobby manager, with his remarkably sharp gaze, reminded me of the 'Grand Maison Tokyo' drama, exuding an air of sophisticated, old-money elegance that was subtly impressive!🤣 Overall, I was thoroughly satisfied with Hotel Nikko Kumamoto. A perfect score, highly recommended!
