One can forgive some less than perfect aspects - such as faded or outdated decor, and frame it under 'charm' of an hotel with a lovely harbour-side view. However the overall experience was so disappointing, that the four stars it has must have been given according to an old town's standard, and not of the 'international four stars' standard. While congratulating themselves for making my room available 20 minutes earlier than the check-in time of 3pm (despite my having arrived at 6.30am and requested an earlier check-in - any other hotel in the world claiming to be 4stars would do so much better) - perhaps thinking I was too tired to care - the receptionist tried to give me a superior double room (smaller, without the sofa) instead of the Junior Suite (larger space with sofa) that I had booked and paid for. When I pointed out the difference, she insisted it was correct though the listing included a sofa and so did the photos, and the room they tried to palm off to me did not have these. When I said I wanted to make a formal complaint, she said to me that she'd already spoken with the Manager who agrees with her (therefore one-upping me without even giving me the opportunity to formally complaint) nor was there any care or prioritisation of customer satisfaction. She thought that the right customer strategy was telling me I can't read, but I've screenshotted the booking and can prove it. Then she tried to embarrass me by saying "after all we did for you - meaning the 20 minutes extra) in front of other guests. Deplorable behaviour. While the other staff were helpful - just for this one receptionist, it tainted it all. AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU WANT A RELAXING STAY.
