Fort Charlotte Guest House

It was a very pleasant surprise to find accommodation where we felt comfortable, as if we were in our own home. Everything was well designed to make us feel part of Lerwick! The soft beds and well-designed wardrobes provided an excellent environment to recharge your batteries and explore the charms of the Shetland Islands.

A gem. Ideally located about 20 metres from Commercal Rd, Lewrick with a variety of good restaurants and shops to visit. Hosts Ryan, Anita, Lynda and team were hospitable and welcoming and offered suggestions on restaurants and things to do. Breakfast at the guest house was excellent and a perfect way to start the day. Ryan's email orientation guide which we received.before we left Australia was very helpful and he referred us to Asif from Shetland Taxis who met us at Sumburgh airport. Ryan and Asif helped with our luggage as my mobilty was restricted. We arranged for Asif to provide a guided island tour. (I will write separate reviews for Asif, Shetland Taxis and restaurants.) As an extra bonus the BBC was filming for the Shetland series and on the following day there was a Pride parade which we could view from the windows of the breakfast room. (The rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of parade participants and friends.) We stayed in room 1 with the double bed converted to 2 good sized singles. The room comfotably accomodated 2 adults. It had a modern shower room and was spotlessly clean. I highly recommend Fort Charlotte Guest house.

Had a great stay, hosts very welcoming and helpful. Guest House was excellent. Room very clean and comfortable, immaculate ensuite bathroom, and large flat screen TV. Good choice for breakfast. Location perfect at end of Commercial Street which looked lovely with Christmas lights and decorated shop windows. Within walking distance of Mareal Arts Centre, Shetland Museum and ferry port. Had a great stay.

Location excellent for walking around all areas of Lerwick. All attractions easily accessible. Very comfortable room; wonderful care by Kelly, from the room to delicious breakfast cooking and local information. School vacation weeks make Lerwick very quiet, with the shops, sites and streets less crowded. Would visit again.

Please do not make the same mistake as we did and book this property without realising that flights get cancelled many days in a row to The Shetland Islands. The cancellation policy for this property is very strict (ie no refund if you can not stay). We were unable to reach Shetland Islands as our flights were canceled due to bad weather. This was the case also for the next day. This was something that we did not expect. It might also be something that you might not be aware of. Fort Charlotte did not show any compassion with even a slight refund. So if you are to book to stay here we highly recommend you only do so once you are certain that you can reach the Shetland Islands. We made a costly mistake - we lost the money that we paid to stay here. We just don’t want you to make the same mistake. Buyer beware.

Great location, central, but nice and peaceful. Ryan was very helpful throughout and was always available with advice and guidance. The room was comfortable, warm and spotlessly clean with a nice sized en-suite. The breakfast cooked by Lynda was excellent and always served with a friendly chat and a smile. In short a fantastic place to stay in Lerwick. Thank you Ryan and all of the staff. Darren
