Natural Lodge Caño Negro

Enjoyed a two-night stay at Cano ***** Natural Lodge as part of our ten-day birding trip. Were last here in 2018. Since then the lodge has undergone considerable remodeling. Rooms have been redone but most noticeable was the replacing of the dining/bar building with a huge pavilion housing the reception, bar and restaurant. IMO the metal roof is a major drawback given tendency for major heat despite the ceiling fans. However, our experience at the lodge was very positive. Our meals were excellent and our room was quite pleasant. Tastefully decorated/furnished with ac, mini-fridge, roomy bed, and a large shower and bathroom area separated from the rest of the room with a door on rollers/track much like a barn door. The sink had a stopper (many places don’t) and the bath towels were substantial! Staff were most friendly. Nice walkways, feeder in front of the dining area, well-maintained lawn with various trees and bushes and nearby forested areas proving habitat for birds and other wildlife. Besides several species of birds we saw opossum, howler monkeys and a sloth. The lodge is very close to the lagoon and the launch ramp to the river. We would certainly stay here again.

The hotel is OK, simple comfortable rooms, no fridge and no frills. The pool is nice but not super clean. Service was generally poor. Packed breakfast was horrible and insufficient in quantity. Breakfast timing was also incompatible with bird watching activities, hence the packed breakfast. Given the price we were expecting a better experience.

This is a lovely lodge in a beautiful setting. The staff are all very friendly and go out of their way to help. The food is exceptionally good and also very good value for money. After a month of travelling in Costa Rica, I would say it was probably the best food we had the whole trip.

Lovely setting and a great take off point to explore the wetlands. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Spacious and beautifully clean rooms set in well tended tropical gardens with monkeys in the treesWonderfully friendly staff who can't do enough for you. Great good value local food

We receive a warm welcome from Josef upon our arrival after check in we escorted to our room. Spacious room with a/c . Security safe. The grounds are lovely to walk around with plenty of bird life. The restaurant /bar served excellent tasty meals by friendly staff.

Joseph, the manager, is amazing. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. However, the mattresses are a bit hard and thin. If you want to take boat rides in the refuge, you are about 5 mins from the boat launch. A great place for birders. Great wildlife on site.

We had a great time. I went there with my wife and my 5 years old daughter. The employes are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good, rooms are clean, the pool is nice. We had a boat tour on the river, guide was very informative, he took the time to give us extra information for every bird we saw. I highly recommend visiting this hotel, specially if you are a bird lover.

We stayed two nights in this hotel and we found it very clean, with a gorgeous garden and many birds visiting us. The staff is also very kind. The food was delicious! We did the wetland tour and the birding observation tour and it was an amazing experience, with nice and professional guides and so much wildlife. We would definitely recommend it to anyone.

We spent two nights at the Natural Lodge in Cano *****. The road to get there is a bit brutal but it was well worth it when we got there. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. The pool was great. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable, with air-conditioning. The restaurant was good and the staff at the lodge and the restaurant were great. The bird activity is fantastic and we saw two different types of monkeys right on the grounds of the hotel. The only thing I would recommend is that Wifi be made available in the rooms. We did the Cano ***** boat tour where we saw many many different birds. The guide (Jimmy) was super knowledgeable about the various birds and the surroundings. I highly recommend taking this tour.
