Great location, good mix of contemporary and historical. We were very well looked after in this traditional old Portuguese palace turned hotel located conveniently close to schist villages of the area. Staff were by far the most kids friendly, warm and welcoming, all speaking fluent English and always ready to help. Hotel facilities including the SPA and pool are a plus. The food, ambiance, fire-places in large family living rooms added to the experience.

Our itinerary included a visit to a couple of the nearby schist villages and Lousã proved to be a good option for our overnight stay. We opted to stay at the Octant Hotel which was historically known as the Palace of Lousã, that once served as the palace of the Viscountess of Espinhal. This was a lovely hotel in the center of town with beautiful common spaces. Our room was very nice with many amenities found in other high-end hotels. Breakfast was superior to most during our 2 week sojourn to Portugal. When we arrived in town, there was a religious procession taking place in town so roads were blocked making parking difficult. Once that ceremony was over parking proved to be very convenient.

I'd like to say that this hotel has been one of the most pleasant surprises I've had in a while. This was a last minute decision, as I wanted to take a few days of with my wife. We were looking for a place to relax, but at the same time we wanted to explore and hike. Well, the surrounding mountains were breathtaking, the historical shist villages, the waterfalls, the river affluents, and the magical castle of Lousã gave us all the outdoor experiences we were looking for. The hotel itself, amazing ! We stayed in the new area, the bedroom was very spacious, the bed was super comfortable, the bathroom was great too, the TV, well a bit outdated to be honest. The restaurant - Wow ! The breakfast - Wow ! The indoor pool and Spa, very good. As to the staff. Warm Kind Welcoming Polite. I'd like to say that Dona Laura that helped us during breakfast deserves a raise. Thank you for the very nice stay you've provided us.

It's an old palace so some noise is to be expected through the walls but other than that it has excellent rooms with very comfortable beds, the restaurant is very good. Lovely staff. wonderful gardens and scenery. And the best of all, its pet friendly. They'll bring to the room the pet's own bed, blanket, toy, bowls. Fantastic attention to detail there also.

This is the most beautiful hotel ever, an ancient palace beautifully renovated and decorated. The staff was incredibly nice, always helpful and smiley at the reception, the bar, the restaurant..everywhere. The electric bicycles are of excellent quality, the swimming pool area with huge gardens. They cater for so many details to make you feel the most welcomed, like we have never experienced in a hotel before. They offered us beautiful straw hats. In the bedroom, we had aa choice of 3 pillows and a home-made body scrub made with honey. The breakfast buffet was astonishingly delicious and complete. The food in the restaurant was very creative and excellent too. This hotel is a must.

Very nice and comfortable hotel, also quiet for a romantic weekend. Staff could not be more friendly, always wanting to help in the best way possible. Food at the restaurant is excellent. And the region, specially the Xisto Villages are still a hidden treasure. Really recommend a stay in Octant

Lousa has a few streets of very charming historic houses, the rest is social housing. Octant in an old palace is great, especially the attentive staff at the front desk and bike room who go the extra mile to help and the wonderful sitting rooms. The bikes we rented were fit for purpose but the hills are very challenging and need a good level of cycle or walking fitness. Electric bikes are available too. The schist (slate) villages are breathtaking. Breakfast is excellent, pool and gardens amazing.... There are some downsides: the restaurant (opens 730pm) is overpriced and modest in its execution but the town offers no competition so OK = best in town. Some rooms, including ours, are in an awful modern block extension with no character (while an historic house 10 metres away lies dilapidated) with no balcony and black mould in the bathroom, bubbling paint in the corridors suggesting the builders didn't install a damp course. The hotel should buy and restore this adjacent house. My room was serviced very late in the day (after 6pm). Despite encouraging walking and cycling there is no where to launder or dry clothes. There is a coffee maker in the room but only 3 capsules, and quality Kusmi tea.

The staff went out of their way to make our stay amazing - our only regret was that we couldn’t stay another night!
The restaurant served some of the best food we have ever eaten. The steak that my wife got was SO good that she asked to speak to the chef, just to tell him it was the best steak she had EVER had in her life! We NEVER do that!
