The Burrus House Inn Waterfront Suites

If you're on the fence about staying at the Burrus House, definitely make it a priority!! We visited the Outer Banks and stayed here for a more small-town feel. It was absolutely perfect! We stayed in the Reba Irene room and LOVED the private balcony (actually two of them) and the views. It was just the right size with plenty of storage, a large shower with two showerheads and a whirlpool tub with a view. It's a quick drive from here to Nags Head and other OBX towns, but Manteo was super quiet and peaceful.

Manteo and the Burrus House was the first stop on a month long road trip. The weather when we arrived at the Outer Banks was not ideal but our stay at the Burrus House certainly helped to make up for the weather. The "house" is just that--a large beach house made up of a variety of rooms, a welcoming gathering space complete with a fireplace along with a breakfast area---as the Inn offers a nice "continental" breakfast that does offer speciality made warm items... The rooms are spacious as there is a bathroom, a separate main sleeping area with fireplace (gas logs) as well as a private sitting area with access to a semi private deck, tv, small kitchenette that has a mini fridge, microwave, sink, glasses, cutlery... Perfect for keeping some wine, cheese, fruit, etc. We did have a very nice cheese plate and bottle of wine waiting that I had included in our reservation. Manteo sits back from the Outer Banks proper, a separate island. The Burrus House sits on the water (bay) and has lovely grounds with fire pit and water access (not a beach but can utilize kayaks) ---bikes are included if you'd like to ride to explore the town of Manteo which is just a short ride on a level surface. We stayed for 2 nights which was enough to whet our whistle as we plan on returning in the fall for a week's time. The hostesses were awesome---helpful with dinner recommendations etc. The Burrus House is a great place to stay in order to explore the area. The Elizabethan Gardens are a must! The location is close to great restaurants as well as access to the beaches of the OBX.

A beautiful and quiet house on the sound. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and stocked with many comfortable amenities. Breakfast served every morning at your convenience and consists of both sweet and savory pastries, egg dishes, orange juice, bagels, oatmeal and more. Wine and cheese served daily from 5 to 6 pm. Staff are extremely friendly and offer great advice for meals and tours. All rooms have a patio and it is a birdwatchers paradise!

I’m always on the lookout for non-corporate, privately-owned hotels—especially ones that do things with a little panash and good taste. For this particular trip I was looking for a place where we could spend time in natural areas, do some birdwatching and come back to lux accommodations—not alway an easy combo to pull off! But Burrus House Inn on the Isle of Manteo pinged it perfectly!!! During the day we were able to visit several top-notch birding hot-spots and in the evening we came back to the relaxed comfort and elegance of the Burrus House. The location of the Inn, itself is even situated for some good birdwatching. Right from our own room we had “front-row seats” to watch a young Osprey couple start courtship and nesting in these last days of February. On the first morning we were served breakfast in our room by the innkeeper who was so gracious to us our entire stay. She couldn’t do enough to make our time here comfortable and lovely.

My second time here. They remembered me and gave me a warm welcome. My suite was beautiful and comfortable with two private balconies and a little kitchen. Vickie and Donna went overboard to help me with a tech problem. Plenty of parking, breakfast not much but there’s a Southern grill next door always crowded with locals. I recommend especially if seeking R&R. Initially, not totally impressed with the location as I drove into the parking lot. However, the updated room and the water view was outstanding. I would highly recommend!

Our recent stay at the Burrus House was nothing short of AMAZING! We had been looking for the perfect place for us and our guests to stay for our sons wedding and we found it. Vicki, Donna Mae and the whole staff could not have been more accommodating, gracious and a lot of fun! The rooms and common areas are stunning and comfortable. Every detail is well thought out; they don't miss a beat. There was live music twice during the week we stayed. The location could not be more beautiful. Having, Kayaks, bicycles and beach chairs at our disposal was great. Breakfast and Happy Hour(s) were yummy and much appreciated. We will definitely be back!

My husband surprised me with a 3-night stay at this wonderful place. Big brownie points!! Being personally escorted to our room was the first clue we were at a place that emphasized making sure the guest feels cared about. We stayed in room 202, aka Samuel Zora. All of the rooms have names but I forgot to inquire the significance of the names used. Our room was impeccably clean and comfortable. The kitchenette which included a Kuerig machine was quite adequate for our needs. We greatly enjoyed relaxing on the deck watching activity, both human and waterfowl, on the bay. The property itself as well as the surrounding area is quiet. We will definitely stay at this inn whenever we vacation in the Outer Banks.

My husband and I stayed here when in Manteo celebrating our anniversary. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Burrus House Inn. It is beautifully nestled on the Roanoke Sound. The Inn itself is beautiful! Our room was elegant and spacious. The toiletries and linens were great and bed and pillows were superb. We enjoyed the continental breakfast and the wine and cheese “Happy Hour.” They have complimentary equipment including paddle boards, bicycles, and kayaks. We enjoyed kayaking in the sound and taking in the sights. The view from our room was so beautiful and peaceful. What a wonderful place to relax. We can’t wait to return!
