Hotel Villa Lubrense was fabulous! We stayed in one of the apartments, Puolo. For the price you pay, the views, the location and the accommodation/amenities are unmatched! We had an incredible stay and it exceeded our expectations. The apartment itself is basic, but that’s all you’re paying for and we didn’t really spend any time inside anyway so suited us perfectly. We were lucky and no one had booked the other apartment so the terrace was all to ourselves, which was a real added perk. We loved the terrace so much we hardly spent any time at the pool! We found the terrace so romantic in the evenings, looking over the water and most evenings a firework display! The mattress was hard but that’s typical in Italy. The air conditioning was really powerful! Something we were nervous about. There is no Wi-Fi in the apartment but there is cellular reception and you can connect to Wi-Fi at the reception and download stuff or do what you need to do. Wasn’t really a problem for us. The hotel staff were really warm and friendly. We were very well accommodated and they helped to make it a great stay for us. There aren’t any shops or ATMs nearby so stock up on what you need in Sorrento before you get there. Buses are fairly frequent and on time, just check the timetable on your phone before you go and wait. They run until late in the evening so no problems getting back after dinner out in Sorrento. The bus drivers do sell tickets, (not common practice in Italy, you need to buy tickets before boarding from tobacconists, some shops/cafes) they’re just a little more expensive. The bus only takes 10/15mins and most of that is just getting through Sorrento. I’d say it’s absolutely worth staying a little further out and having the space/views that we had. There is a path that leads down to the beach (with black sand from Vesuvius) and a few really nice restaurants, some award winning. The quality of the food is great and there is a great atmosphere. The hotel is on top of a cliff which is what provides the spectacular views, as a result, the walk back up from the beach is hard! It only takes 10/15mins but it is going up steps most the way and can be quite steep, but if you didn’t have to do that, you wouldn’t get the views. As long as you’re able bodied, you will be able to cope as it’s only a short journey but you will be out of breath. You can also go by road or if you book a table at the restaurants at the beach they offer a taxi service for free. The hotel organised a trip to Capri for us, it was seamless and worth the visit! We went for the early trip (as advised by the hotel) because it’s quieter, and I would say it’s absolutely better to go early. We had time to explore Capri whilst it was quiet, then when we were ready to sit down and eat it had really picked up and gotten very busy. I think some of the reviews have been harsh and people just looking for reasons to complain. I can’t comment on the hotel rooms, but the Puolo apartment looked like
