It was our first time to Skiathos but it won't be our last. We had a fantastic holiday at the Aegean Suites which is one of the most relaxing and peaceful hotels we have stayed in. And it serves the best breakfasts we have ever experienced!! The hotel is small and quaint - it is not modern, minimalist five star so you may be disappointed if that is what you are expecting - but it is full of character and traditional furnishings. The staff are exceptional and make you feel like royalty. Because it is only a small hotel, they get to know your names and faces and we were always greeted with a smile and a friendly chat every time we went to breakfast or came home from an evening out. Special thanks to Dimitrius, who was superb, as well as Orestis (both breakfast waiters) and Nicki (behind the pool bar and occasionally at breakfast) who all couldn't do enough for us and really made our holiday special. Because the hotel is cleverly built into the hillside, there are a lot of steps up to the rooms (and no lift) and Skiathos is very hilly but this didn't bother us. However, it would be a problem for anyone with walking difficulties, especially in the heat we experienced. The pool area is lovely with the most comfortable sunbeds - and there were always some free whatever time of day. It feels very exclusive and there is certainly no need to put towels down to reserve a bed. The beach near the hotel is not the best, so we frequently made use of the brilliant hotel shuttle service to the sister Princess Hotel just 10 mins away (not adults only so there were quite a few children around their pool). This hotel has an amazing beach, beautiful clear sea, with free towels, sunbeds and umbrella (for Aegean guests). The beach bar and restaurant is lovely and we really enjoyed our beach days there - but loved coming back to the peaceful and relaxing pool area at the Aegean. We walked into Skiathos some nights which is about 20 mins, but most of the time we ate at the little tavernas near to the hotel along the beachside. Our favourite was Siferi - home cooked Greek food and very reasonably priced. We made use of the very efficient bus system - taking a trip to Koukanaries and also to Troulos Bay. The bus makes it very easy to get out and about and see a bit of the island. Another recommendation would be the Mamma Mia boat trip which we booked at Skiathos Town harbour. A fantastic day visiting the gorgeous film locations. We would definitely go back to Skiathos and this hotel.
