The hotel is well maintained and particularly the room offered is spacious and clean. The staff's service is very good and do their best to offer their help for our needs and queries. Our stay is truly memorable and the best among the many hotels we stayed during our 9-days holiday in Japan. We look forward to our next visit here again

My wife and I recently stayed in a 1-bedroom apartment in this aparthotel for 3 nights in early August. We had a fantastic time and 5 stars are honestly not enough. LOCATION: Thanks to its location in the mountains, Akakura village is about 6-8C cooler than Tokyo in summer and we really needed a break from the heat. It was also a great base for exploring Nagano and Niigata prefecture by car. Within driving range, you'll find beautiful nature, ski lifts that will take you higher up in the mountains, lots of summer flowers, apple and peach orchards, vineyards, friendly (and chatty) locals, cool cafés, good coffee and at this time of the year, summer matsuri, too. Although Akakura village is not as developed as Hakuba (yet), we were pleasantly surprised to see a branch of Bakery & Table (of Hakone and Izu peninsula fame) in the village. Their baked goods are always a delight. ONSEN: Upon arrival, John, the super friendly owner of The Address, reserved the onsen in the basement for our private use so we could relax after the journey. The onsen was clean, had the perfect temperature (for us) and was well-equipped with towels, hairdryers etc. The onsen water in this area will leave your skin feeling really smooth. APARTMENT: It had everything you'd need for self-catering stays. You could probably stay here for a long time without missing anything. The things that stood out were the super comfortable mattress in the bedroom and the huge wooden bathtub for two (it's like your own in-room onsen but with normal tap water). FOOD: Although the apartment came with a well-equipped kitchen, we didn't use it since breakfast and dinner were included. We're vegetarians which is often a problem in Japan but not here: John and his team went out of their way to cook one delicious dish for us after the next. It was a great introduction to local delicacies from the region and we were really impressed by the novel flavours and the inventiveness that were on display in every dish. If that wasn't enough, John also generously shared his own sake with us in the hotel bar and gave us 2 types of jam and a pack of locally-produced miso to take home with us when we left. SERVICE: By now, you can see where this is going. The service was just off-the-charts amazing from beginning to end but you could tell that this was not about ticking boxes for them. John and his team treated us with such warmth & hospitality that we already miss being there and want to return. What more could you want from a stay...

This was our third stay at The Address Akakura and the first since John has taken over as owner and manager. We were really pleased to find that the accommodation and amenities are just as fabulous and that John and his staff continue to provide exceptional service and care for their guests. John obviously understands travellers and their requirements. He hosted us as if we were family. Always greeting us with a friendly smile and accommodating our needs. The Address is a fantastic place to stay while enjoying the nearby Myoko ski fields. Everything was perfect for us. The size and facilities of the room, the amenities in the hotel (free laundry!), the café and finally the friendly and professional service from everyone we met. To cap it all off the location is great for atmosphere and for easy access to the local ski fields. Thanks John, for a great stay. We'll definitely be back!

The Hotel was absolutely amazing and incredibly service from the owner John. Rooms are massive by Japanese standards and extremely clean & modern. The location of the hotel is the best in Akakura - right on the main street, beside snowsports shop and a 50m walk to the lifts. Breakfast was great everyday and good coffee too. The owner John was also very generous sharing tastings from his private sake collection and hosting a drinks & food night for guests. He was also extremely accommodating with dinner recommendations. Absolutely 5-star. We look forward to coming back again many times!

The most amazing week with a wonderful host. An authentic Japanese experience with just the right amount of western influence. Large super comfy bed in a big room, simple & functional kitchen facilities, fresh daily fruit, friendly staff and an amazing Onsen for guests only. Nothing but praise for the place. We will be back for our next skiing holiday.

Excellent choice for a ski holiday. Very well located for the slopes and town with big, nice rooms and a very good onsen. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee is Melbourne quality. The team were very friendly and helpful and communication was no problem.

Have just spent a week at this excellent hotel in the little town of Akakura. We went for the snow (and were not disappointed!) – the hotel is easy walking distance to the Akakura Onsen ski resort, and a short drive to several others. The two closest restaurants were our favourites in the town; there were several other restaurants nearby, and a very handy convenience store opposite. The rooms were clean, tidy and more than adequate; the kitchenette a very useful addition. We'd have no hesitation in staying here again, hence more than happy to recommend.

My wife and I are mature (maybe aged is more appropriate) snowboarders and this is our second season in The Address Akakura. Our stay on both occasions has been 5 weeks from late January to early March, so we really get to experience all Myoko and the accommodation has to offer. The hotel has changed ownership since last visit but from our perspective most facets remain unchanged. The apartment-style rooms are still excellent with functional kitchens, comfy beds and ensuite style bathrooms. As long stay customers the kitchen was particularly important to us. The restaurant/ bar downstairs as well as a cafe on property is very welcomed and the on-site onsens are amazing. The owner John, was always very helpful and most supportive of all our needs including taking us grocery shopping when required. The staff were all great and it was very easy for us to become part of this new family. Although all the staff were very good some deserve special mention. Sammi (who we met last year)continued to be a special friend and we had lots of chats and laughs again this year. Naniko also was very helpful and supportive of our requirements. However of all the staff, Miho was simply outstanding. Her customer service was unbeatable and throughout our 5 weeks she continuously went beyond what was expected. Whether it was assisting us with bookings, on line orders, helping fix a damaged Ski Jacket or arranging luggage transfers nothing was too onerous. Thank you Miho you were fantastic. John, although the snow this season was the worst we have experienced in 18 years of coming to Japan, you and your staff ensured we had a most memorable stay and we look forward to returning again next year. Thank you!
