The Amiral is a nice hotel with small modern rooms located in the central Centre Ville part of Nantes. It is close to many attractions and public transit. It is also very close to theaters and sidewalk restaurants that can be very noisy in good weather. Alas, the sound proofing in this hotel is not very good, and there seems to be no way to block out the sounds of the joyous revelers wandering home from the nearby bars all night long. It's a great place if you are a deep sleeper, or you want a place close to the bar where you can collapse at 3AM. If you go to this place, go when the weather is bad and the sidewalk cafes will not be noisy. There are a few other issues with the hotel. To connect to the internet, you need a separate passcode for each device, and the resulting internet speed is quite slow, in the 500 kb/sec range up to 1 MB/sec. The hotel is on an ecology kick to save energy, but they come across as really stingy. The thermostat in the room does not let you control the temperature. They turn off the heat during the day. And the light on the thermostat is really bright and also interferes with sleep. The breakfast is a typical continental breakfast, with cheese, yogurt, some lunch meat, croissants, and some fruit and orange juice. The rooms have only showers, not bath tubs.
