We have just returned from our break at Sorrel Bay and already can't wait to go back! We were greeted on arrival by the owners, Zoe and Ken, who are so warm, friendly and personable. Nothing was too much trouble throughout our stay. The boutique hotel is in a quiet, tranquil location, surrounded by lush flora and fauna (tended to daily by Ken) including coconut and ackee trees. The building is shaded so never got too hot during the day. We stayed in Room 2 on the first floor, with unrivaled views from both windows over the garden and ocean, complete with high wooden beam ceilings, a Super King bed, fan AND AC, high quality bedding, toiletries and as many fluffy towels as you need. They even provide towels for lounging by the pool. Downstairs, there is a huge communal area with sofas, TV and dining table which leads onto a large veranda. This was our favourite place to have a drink at the bar or lounge in the swing chair and sofas to watch the sunset. There is an impeccably clean private pool (a rarity in small hotels/guest houses in Jamaica) which we spent a lot of time in, as it got the sun all day it was always warm and the perfect spot for sun bathing on a lounger. There are also steps from the deck down to a rocky beach and turquoise sea which was ideal for snorkelling in. The highlight of the stay for me was the FOOD! Zoe home cooks all of the dishes and it is fantastic. There is no set menu, we just let her know in advance what we would like, every cuisine was on offer - Thai dishes, Indian curry, burgers, **** chicken, English fish and chips. We also had a Jamaican breakfast of ackee and saltfish, hard food and cornmeal porridge which was delicious. Zoe and Ken recommended that we visit YS Falls which was a 45 minute drive away, it was one of the most beautiful place I've been, thank you! I would suggest renting a car to get around if you want to visit places. I would recommend Sorrel Bay to couples, small groups of people and families, although it might be a struggle with very young children as there are steps surrounding the property. A 'retreat' by name, a 'retreat' by nature - my stay was absolute bliss!
