We stay exclusive at Hilton hotels and both my husband and I are diamond members. This is a remarkably terrible Embassy Suites. This was the first and only time I have ever been treated rudely by any staff member at a Hilton Hotel. The evening front desk staff was somewhat absent (they hide in the back office and don’t even come out when the front door opens). They were completely apathetic when about the pool being closed to a family traveling with kids (yeah, it’s closed. Maybe it will open tomorrow- no “I’m sorry”, no explanation, no awareness that families choose their hotel because there is a pool advertised. The best part though was in the morning when I watched the desk be unmanned for 45 minutes (despite to front door opening multiple times) with no way to contact anyone. When I needed to go back to my room I realized I didn’t have a key, so I walked over to the breakfast staff and asked if they knew how to reach anyone. The woman there was effusively apologetic and sweet, walked to the desk, knocked on the door, and an employee came out. As the front desk employee is avoiding looking at me and mumbling her questions while staring at her screen, the restaurant employee is going out of her way to apologize and tell me that if I need anything I only need to WALK BEHIND THE DESK AND KNOCK ON THE OFFICE DOOR. I’m so floored by this that I actually decide to say something. I said to the girl at the front desk (I would call her a woman but she was acting oddly like a moody teenager) “Isn’t it odd that the only person who cares that this desk was unmanned with no way to reach anyone for 45 minutes is her and you won’t even make eye contact with me?” She said loudly while still not LOOKING at me “uh I was I the bathroom”. I said “for 45 minutes and then walked out at one knock?” “Yeah, I was IN THE BATHROOM”. Bull. Apparently the office at the Embassy Suites Newark, Wilmington is actually a very nice bathroom worthy of all the employees staying in it to such a degree that the kitchen staff have to apologize for them.

It is what it is, a 2 star hotel. Looks like maybe mostly for business travel, but I have a feeling that if you are traveling for business and need a good nights rest this isn't the spot. I only say that because the first morning when we woke up, I was still in bed, but could hear the conversation couple and kids were having next door. Quite clearly. Also two days in a row, in different rooms there were parties up until well past midnight. Regardless of those things, the hotel itself is fairly nice. Its clean. The staff is very nice, and helpful when we needed anything. This is one of the few times where I got a good nights sleep at a hotel because the bed was comfortable. The two things that were noticed, not really complaints is that the rod in the closet is super low so clothes are basically touching the floor, and it would be nice to have an adjustable shower head. The water pressure was amazing, but sometimes too strong even. Oh and another added bonus for hotels in this day and age. FREE PARKING. In closing, I would stay here again if or when I go back to visit.

Was here on a business trip. Location was convenient and close to my client that I needed to be. There is where my positive comments end for the review. This is an old tired property badly in need of an upgrade. Everything is old and creaky and barely keeping up. The elevator groans and creeks all the way up to the 6th floor. Sometimes I get the impression that it may give up half way. The room was somewhat decent. Large and spacious. Has 2 desks, one in the kitchen area and the other in the main area. Plenty of room to spread out and work. Full size refrigerator, stove, sink etc. Well equipped though I did not need it. There is a ceiling fan in addition to the AC which is nice. I always like some breeze when I sleep and this was a welcome feature. The Fitness room is a disaster! The pool does not have any water in it, which will definitely cramp my style. 2 out of 2 Treadmills in the Fitness center had a 'Temporarily out of order' sign on it for the 4 days I was at the hotel. Wonder what their definition of 'temporary' is. There is no AC in the Fitness room (see attached picture of dead Thermostat). I complained about this on the first day and was told that they will have the 'Engineer' look into it. 4 days later, there still was no AC in the Fitness room. There was trash all over the floor in the fitness room and it was clear that it does not get any maintenance. Breakfast was OK. Decent selection of fresh fruit, yogurt, juices and some hot items each day. The front desk was mostly empty practically every time I approached it. Had to yell out to get someones attention. When they do show up to the Front desk they have a look on their face that communicates that I was inconveniencing them!!! Overall a hotel that is completely customer unfriendly and barely qualifies as a hotel. If you can run the other way, do so.

A nice spot on the U of Delaware campus, well landscaped and designed. We didn't have the AC problems others below have reported. The front desk when we called and checked in was laughably rude (which at least made those interactions fast, as I got hung up on during the first and had my credit card and ID pretty much thrown at me at the end of the second); at breakfast the next morning the service was comparably inefficient. But we'd eagerly stay there again if we could--indeed, we tried to on our way back, but they were sold out, as seems to happen in association with university events. Temporary note for early September 2022: coming up from the south, the construction and related traffic late at night in the few miles between the highway and the hotel were irritating and even a little scary--allow some time and attention for that.
