My friend and I stayed here for a fun over-nighter in Ocean Springs. But, the room was no fun. A suite is a room with more space and furniture than a standard room, with only beds. Suites include a living/sitting area, typically with a comfortable upholstered chair or sofa, and a writing desk or small work/dining table. The Sandpiper has two (okay, they were comfortable) beds, two small, uncomfortable studio chairs (not really for sitting), a painted bamboo nightstand, and a TV. The shower was beautiful, but the door would not completely shut. Kitchenette ? Hardly. It’s an alcove with an empty mini fridge, a coffee maker., and a packet of coffee. The sink is in the bathroom, and the microwave sits on the sticky floor of the bedroom closet. Private patio ? No. There is a landing/stoop, with two small chairs you’d never sit in, because the (not weatherproof, vintage cushions) are literally covered in visible mold. Which brings me to the most unfortunate experience of our stay in the Sandpiper “suite”. Mold. Mildew. The stench was overwhelming as soon as we opened the door. Mold colonies were visible on the air conditioning registers. The entire room felt clammy. Our eyes burned, and we both wheezed and coughed throughout the entire night. By sunrise, we had terrible headaches that wasted our plans for the day. No exaggeration. We left as soon as the office opened. We had to wait for the office to open, because we wanted to tell them that the toilet paper holder was pulling away from the wall, the shower door would not shut — and, of course, about the mold problem in the non-suite. The fellow at the desk on departure didn’t offer anything to convey he regretted guest dissatisfaction. So, we won’t be suggesting a stay for the film crew. We are from the deep South , and we know humidity. We’ve never experienced this level of funk, outside of childhood camp. I have no idea what the air quality of other suites may be. Given the photos, the other rooms do appear more suite-like, as far as living space is concerned. We’ll never know. PS — we didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy the lovely pool/garden area, because we weren’t told how to (and couldn’t figure out how to) access it! The office was closed, so we couldn’t ask,
