Orcades Hostel

Comrie Pipe Band took over the whole hostel 1st - 6th July 2024. It was a brilliant base for our tour of the Orkney Isles. The rooms were just what we needed, comfy, spacious enough for all our kit and very clean! The lounge was big enough for all 20 of us to eat and chill out in the evenings. We had two mini buses and a car, the car park was plenty big enough for them all. Plus the great location meant we could walk into town for dinners or shopping. The booking process was easy and each door had it's own code to get in, so no loosing keys (perfect), even the front door was a code so whoever got back first could get in - no waiting for a key holder. Everyone agreed they'd stay again either as a group or an individual. Thank you so much for a lovely stay!

Average : although the room is well equipped and clean, the checkin process is smooth and the prices are reasonable, I wouldn't recommend staying there more than one night. Mattress was very thin and worn out, pillows very hard (if you have neck issues, go to a nicer hotel...), checkout is 10 am without possibilities of leaving your luggage if needed (no luggage storing facilities in Kirkwall to compensate...), bathroom very hot (not able to regulate the temperature), toilet flush very slow, etc .... Best to pay a little bit more and be comfortable !!

Excellent hostel, we were lucky that there was only a few of us at the hostel, all friendly as was the manager when requesting advice. Good location to supermarkets and close to town. Quiet location and easy to find. Had plenty of room available to our needs

Orcades is great place to stay in Kirkwall. Very comfortable private room and bed, excellent facilities and extremely easy and efficient check in. Lesley and Erik who run the place are so helpful. If only all accommodation was run like this!

Lovely place to stay! I booked the double room with bathroom. Very comfortable bed. Tea and coffee provided, plus a small fridge. Great kitchen and sitting room. Clean and well managed. Very close to buses, Cathedral and shops. I will book again as missed out on visits due to weather.

Fantastic hostel. Copy twin room, very warm, good kitchen, excellent lounge and location. Very helpful staff, I had quite a few questions and had to change dates a few times due to the weather. Loads of information available. See you again soon.

This quiet, clean and well located hostel met my husband and my needs perfectly. We had a decent sized twin beðed room with ensuite. There was a wardrobe with hangers, two shelves, tea making facilities and even a small fridge in our room. The self-catrring kitchen was clean and very well equpped and there was a decent sized sitting-dining room.

We had to get an emergency place to stay with my autistic teenager, and booked into Orcades Hostel. The place is wonderful, comfy beds, clean as you like, big kitchen with everything you could need, lovely living/dining room which we made use of during a scary and stressful time for us. The owners bent over backwards to ensure that we were ok and had everything we needed, and extended our stay when we were not able to get home. Absolutely fantastic people, would definitely recommend. Very autism friendly, really tried so hard to make us very welcome.

There is limited accommodation in Orkney. So if you don’t want to spend a lot then you can stay here. It’s very basic. Our room was 3x2 bunk beds reminiscent of camp. There was a fridge, tv, kettle. But that’s about it. The bed was comfortable. Free Wifi is available. The shower is hot but didn’t drain very well. 10am prompt exit. Decent place to stay. But in a larger place you would get a more comfortable room in a Premier Inn for the same price.
