“In the center of Surat Thani, where crossroads pulse with traffic and neon flickers like tired stars, stands CBD Hotel—a place that waits for travelers who are always on their way somewhere else.
Around it, the city breathes commerce: food stalls, markets, bus stations. From here, you can walk to the Seatrans bus terminal, and soon after find yourself boarding a ferry to Koh Samui or Koh Phangan. You can wander to the agricultural market, where local trucks carry passengers to Phunphin railway station. Every path from this corner leads somewhere further, as if the city itself is designed for departures.
Parking, often a worry in the center of a restless town, is solved here. Behind the hotel, a wide lot waits—easy to enter, easy to leave, as if movement were always part of the plan.
The lobby never sleeps. Staff at the desk watch the night pass with quiet patience. A small elevator, unassuming, carries you to rooms that are wide and clean. At the entrance, a wardrobe stands for shirts, bags, forgotten stories.
The window is large—generous with light in the day, but not always generous with silence. If your room faces the street, the sound of passing cars may slip through. Yet by night, the city softens. The roads empty, and stillness returns, like an old friend.
The bathroom is spacious, the water strong and insistent. Not new, but cared for, like something that understands its role. The bed is soft, the air conditioner steady, the space around it wide enough that you never feel trapped.
This is a hotel for pauses, not destinations. For the traveler between islands, between parties, between versions of themselves. Affordable, reliable, unpretentious.
Sometimes, the most valuable comfort is not in what is offered, but in what is quietly promised.”

SSuzanne from Oxfordshire EnglandAgain on this trip, I can't say enough about the cheerful, helpful staff at 100 Islands resort hotel.
The building is beautiful with the sound of running water throughout the public spaces.
Although near busy roads and close to town the room was so quiet and the bed so comfortable I had the best sleep I've had so far since we've been travelling Thailand!
There was no kettle or cups but one was provided as soon as requested (we do love our cuppa wherever we are! 😀).
The breakfast was the usual Thai rice and spice. Along with toast and fried eggs which, if you prefer warm we're made to order upon request.
The only disappointment was the swimming pool which, although situated in what was a beautiful tropical jungle scene, looked a bit iffy for swimming as there were understandably leaves and bugs on the surface. There was an outdoor pool which looked very inviting on the lobby camera but was unfortunately closed.

JJuan Luis CintasGreat value for money, spacious and clean rooms, with no hot water but it's okay because it's hot enough there. Old facilities but in okay condition, there are small eateries outside.
The people at reception are lovely but the lady cleaning the rooms seems from the middle age, no responding to thank you or hello.

The Wang Tai Hotel feels like a grand dame from a bygone era. Walking into the lobby, you can see it was once a truly luxurious place, and that sense of scale and history is still there. However, it's clear the hotel is in need of a bit of a makeover. While everything is clean, the decor and some furnishings feel a little tired and dated.
That minor point aside, our stay was very pleasant. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, always going out of their way to assist us.
The breakfast, however, was a wonderful and unexpected highlight! Instead of a standard buffet, it's ordered a la carte from a menu. Don't let that worry you the range is huge, covering both Thai and Western options. Everything we ordered was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. It felt more like a restaurant experience than a hotel breakfast.
The large swimming pool is a major plus – perfect for a refreshing dip and lounging in the sun. The location is also very good, making it a convenient base for exploring Surat Thani.
In summary, if you can look past the slightly worn edges, The Wang Tai Hotel offers incredible value, spearheaded by a stellar breakfast, great pool, and excellent service. A little refurbishment would easily make this a 5-star experience again.

PPengguna TetamuA very reasonably priced hotel with clean and comfy room and small balcony. The location is just over the bridge the other side from the main town but it is quite peaceful and very easy to access the night markets. I would recommend renting a moped or even a bicycle would be fine. If you visit, walk down to the waterfront near the crossroads bar and you might see a big monitor lizard in the tree. Also I recommend a little trip to Koh Lamphu which is a little island you can go around on foot or bicycle. Next to the entrance there is a little food market which opens at night. A perfect way to experience a bit of local Thai life.
