Two of us stayed for 3 nights in a junior suite in their "Residence" wing. Had requested separate beddings, and a 1.50m long sofa had been made up as one of the "beds". Not suitable for an adult. However, this was promptly rectified even though it was late in the evening when we arrived. The room was very quiet, as we had requested. It was also clean and spacious. All rooms in the hotel are non-smoking. The staff were extremely friendly, attentive and helpful. We had a few special requests concerning our half-board and departure arrangements and they did our very best to satisfy them. The same can be said for the restaurant staff. We found the quality of the breads, the breakfast selection and the evening set menus excellent. I had chosen this hotel as it was the only one I could find with a reasonable cancellation policy (2 days before arrival instead of 2-3 weeks which are customary for most hoteliers in Pontresina at this time of the year). My basic complaint is that the hotel looks completely tatty and worn out. The manager confirmed that they are going through a large-scale refurbishment. Step by step, beginning with the common areas such as the spa and pool, which all guests can use... other parts of the hotel such as the the rooms themselves, the corridors or the lifts seem to be further down the list...The lift was very small and waiting times long: you are statistically very likely to stop on a few floors before you reach destination. Altogether, despite the good service and nice food, in my view not good value for money compared to the other 4* hotels I normally use in Pontresina.
