Hotel Bernina Hospiz

We stayed in a basic room with four beds, toilets and showers in the corridor. Great price for dinner/night/breakfast combo. Food choice and quality is excellent, staff is very friendly and helpful. Loved the atmosphere in this historic building!

I booked this because of it's location near the Bernina Pass where I went to take night photos. It also has many great top marks review.... until now I read someone's review that he was there many years ago, enjoyed it but that now they have a new management and was not as good. When I arrived the man who checked me in was sullen and unsmiling. I asked for a room on a lower floor as I have bad knees but he said the hotel was full. I was early, just a few minutes after the start of check in time at 2pm. Was it possible that a hotel with so many rooms and all the other guests have checked in before I? Yup perhaps there were some guests who stayed more than a day but they really have many room spread over 3 floors. The hotel's reply to my review on *********** was that the it was "impossibility of being able to change her room at the last minute"..... I was given a third floor room that did not have a good view. Yes the same man did offer to carry my luggage for me but it wasn't about the luggage. When I have a car I only bring essentials to the room and leave the rest in the car. That's why I declined help. It is the going up and down that hurts my knees. I also guessed right that the wifi on the third floor was bad and I was right. It started ok as it was early at check in but soon the signal was non existent and also for the rest of my stay. Actually everywhere else the wifi was bad (even at the restaurant) except at the bottom of the stairs. It was ok there. Not great. There was no heating in the room. I believe the area has skiing in winter. I stayed a few hours in the room in the hotter part of the day and I was cold. And it was early autumn. I don’t know how guests managed in winter. Perhaps I am the only guest that gets cold easily. The room itself was clean but basic. There was no tv, no kettle and the liquid soap supplied was very much diluted. Ditto in the downstairs restaurant toilets. I did not sleep well in spite of putting on all my warm clothing. So be warned. All a traveler wants is to have a comfortable stay even if there is no luxuries.

The place is in a perfect location to experience the alps at 2,309 m. Ample space to park or in our case easy to get to from the railway station. They offer a pickup from the nearby station if one doesn’t want to walk 500 m uphill from the closest one. Friendly multi language service. Rooms were very cosy and quiet. Excellent food and drinks from local suppliers. We have travelled extensively in Switzerland, this place is one of a kind 😀

We expected to stay in the historic main building, but stayed 130 meter down the road in another building. We also expected to find a swimming pool at the hotel, but this was the local swimming pool. The city was nice, and the service was good, and we had good space. But because of our expectations we rate the hotel at medium range.

L hotel è semplice ma pulito. Ottimo il luogo dove è ubicato. Vista spettacolare e tanti sentieri magnifici. Gente simpatica e cordiale. la cucina nel ristorante è molto buona! L unica toppa e non da poco trovo, è che è situato a 2300 m e il riscaldamento in camera non ha funzionato per nulla. Doveva accendersi almeno 1-2 ore stando a reception e cameriere, ma il termosifone è rimasto completamente freddo. Mi hanno portato una stufetta ma faceva scintille e avevo paura scoppiasse un incendio mentre dormivo. Quindi ho dormito con vestiti a strati e 2 piumoni addosso. Capisco che è un vecchio edificio, ma come fanno poi d inverno?

Abbiamo optato per una fuga dall'aria inquinata ed irrespirabile del clima "mite" della costa ligure, con le minime più alte d'italia, scegliendo la tranquillità delle alpi svizzere. Volendo una posizione strategica da conciliare con il delizioso trenino rosso, abbiamo scelto l'Hotel Ospizio Bernina. Considerando la media svizzera il prezzo è ottimo, sia per quanto riguarda la camera, pulitissima, ampia e con una vista spettacolare, sia per quanto riguarda il ristorante interno, scelta moderata ma qualità eccelsa, staff sorridente e simpatico, prezzo contenuto. Dall'ospizio transitano letteralmente tutti i sentieri per esplorare la zona, che preferiate espiare anche i peccati altrui arrampicandovi fin sulla Diavolezza o discendere tranquilli verso Cavaglia accarezzando gli alberi. Tipica struttura di montagna, da buon ospizio-ostello non tutte le camere hanno i servizi. Ottima la ristorazione. Maitre pessimo e odioso mentre i camerieri sono giovanissimi ed eccezionali, ragazzi con tanta voglia di lavorare, cordiali, professionali e molto educati.
