Riad Kalaa

We arrived with an expectation of a lovely, comfortable place. We were placed in the sister facility, #2, there was no sign or other indication that a riad was there. The courtyard is open to the sky, lovely during warmer months. In December it was cold. A covering was pulled over, so no sun and no heaters. Breakfast was in your coat. Our room was 3 flights up, again not was expected. Most room descriptions talk about ground level. The furniture was old and extremely firm, no, it was hard. The room was cold and the only source of heat was at the end of the long room. It was noisy as it cycled on and off all night. It takes hours to warm up the room. I did not take a shower the first night because I was cold, the second night the hot water heater was broken. Internet in our room was very poor, it is better in the courtyard, but again, chilly. The room had few, very small windows, so it was dark. The entire room ran along the alley, so you heard every motorbike, person and cart in the alley. It did quiet down around midnight. Not sure about the value for the price since it was booked for us by Kensington Travel as part of a package. Don’t book based on photos. All the photos and descriptions are of their primary riad, not #2.

Although we did not stay here as no rooms were available, we stopped by for dinner. Food was nice and high quality and served right on the riad’s beautiful courtyard. However, what impressed us the most, was the outstanding attitude towards customers. When we stopped by the Riad Kalaa to make a dinner reservation, we also asked for recommendations for a pharmacy as our daughter was sick, the manager (or owner?) then asked what we were looking for as most pharmacies were closed due to a holiday; we needed a home remedy for sore throat (baking soda), so he went to kitchen to see if they had any, after finding out it was not available, he asked one of the staff members to search and call pharmacies to find one open; after few calls, he found one and walked us to the street to show usthe way and provide directions; THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE EXCELLENCE. That does not end there, we came back for dinner later that day and since our daughter could not make it because she was not feeling well, we asked for them to prepare something to take out and they kindly and happily arranged that with no hesitation (we were surprised as some restaurants, particularly finer ones -abroad- are often not too accommodating for this) which was a really big thing for us as no places were open around; Another great example by the Riad’s staff of putting customers first, which is what should always matter. Overall, an incredible experience! Thanks to Riad Kalaa’s staff for everything!!

This riad was magical! There are so many wonderful spaces - our room, the central courtyard the roof. The staff was welcoming. The massage was terrific as were the breakfasts. The riad was a welcoming, romantic peaceful sanctuary. It's also in a perfect location. Close to the sights but apart from the noise.

Make sure you don't stay right off the eating area. It's noisy at night and hard to get any rest. Room was decent size but very old building - which we expected - shower was weird and dated. Just an ok visit. Room was clean. Friendly staff at front desk.

Beautiful setting in large room under dome. 280dr three course menu. Professional service. Wine from 130dr to 340dr per bottle. The local rose at 130dr was good value. We had selection of 3 briouates or samosas as starter then three pastillas - stuffed pastries, seafood, beef and vegetable. Good, but pastry was on the hard side. Refreshing pudding.

Excellent location with helpful staff. Lovely courtyard and superb breakfast. As a first timer to Morocco this was the first place we stayed at. It was a great experience staying in a Riad. Our 8 year old really enjoyed the breakfast spread of local delicacies and the staff is happy to accommodate requests. The room was very comfortable - we had a split level room for family of 3, which suited our needs perfectly.
