From our recent visit to the Karuizawa Marriott Hotel, we're excited to share the essence of this secluded gem. Standard Amenities: The facilities met our needs without exceeding expectations. Ski Area Access: While the hotel offers a shuttle to the ski area, there is still a walk involved to reach the ski gates, which might be a consideration for some guests. 💡 Tips and Recommendation: ♨Onsen Choices: Opt for the building with its own onsen for a private dip, or brave the open-air onsen for a magical winter experience. 🚘Transport Planning: While there's a shuttle service, having private transportation is convenient. This is a brand new hotel with a great location, an easy 10 minute walk from the train station. I wanted to find the interior/graphic designers responsible for the hotel and give them a hug a few times - clever little details run throughout the property. We stayed in the deluxe twin room. It was very spacious and spotless. Very nice ambiance overall. Guests seemed to be mainly couples. We visited with our 4 year old son, and while he was the only kid we saw at the hotel, we were made to feel very welcome and staff was friendly and kind to all of us! Our son enjoyed the hotel too. Breakfast was included in our rate, and was a daily highlight. The Spanish restaurant on the ground floor dished up fantastic, innovative filling dishes. Certainly far from your standard hotel breakfast offerings. I was very happy to support this hotel that was brave enough to open in the middle of the pandemic! Had a fantastic experience, and would recommend this place without hesitation. Hope to be back!

With stunning architecture by Shigeru Ban (who designed House 1 and 2), this stylish small hotel has interesting spaces filled with contemporary art. My family took 3 rooms in Villa A of House 2 which gave us a private kitchenette and small seating area, with access to a beautiful communal room and library. It's a couple of minutes' walk to House 1 with the gorgeous restaurant that merges the indoor with outdoor. The restaurant offers a good breakfast and a la carte lunches/dinners. We chose the omakase dinner one evening and it was creative and excellent. The staff members are fantastic - friendly and helpful, especially the knowledgeable and wonderful General Manager Ogihara-san who went out of his way to personally take us to the oldest ramen restaurant in Karuizawa and the volcano park. We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel recently added House 3 which is also stunning. There's quite a bit to do in the area - hikes, waterfall, onsen etc., so we are already planning our next trip. A great escape in the summer from the blazing heat of Tokyo, and I hear it's amazing in the snowy winter too.

This is a stunning property and all around excellent place to stay with one caveat. The amenities are excellent, the grounds tranquil and gorgeous. The library was a nice place to chill, has snacks all day, whisky an sake/champagne in the evening to enjoy a nightcap, special little treats outside in the garden etc. The onsen was magic and the nature trail to connect you to the forest and surrounding areas was delightful. The staff was incredible, attentive, and kind. Anything we needed they happily accommodated. We had a treatment at the spa And the kaiseki dinner with sake pairing which were both lovely and worth the expense. But the rooms may not live up to your expectations. We rented a junior maisonette for our family of four. While what is pictured on the website is lovely and inviting, what we got was a two story townhouse in the middle of a three-plex that felt a little old, was at the edge of the property, and faced a road that was hidden by a tall fence. Had I know this is what I was getting I would have definitely chosen differently and probably not stayed here. Because for as expensive this property is I expected the actual room to be far superior than what it was. But if you can secure one of the better rooms on the water then I say go for it.

この宿は，１泊１人¥10,000前後で泊まれる安宿だ。 安普請のせいか，近くの部屋の音が聞こえる。 人件費は，最小限のようだが，シーツ・タオル・コップなどは，連泊でも整っており，掃除もきちんとされている。 星野温泉 トンボの湯 に行くには，交通量の多い道路脇の歩道を通り，食堂の多い商店街 ハルニレテラス を通り，夜には真っ暗に近い道を行かなくてはならない。 温泉まで，１５分は，かかるし，雨の日には，道を歩くのが，つらい。 シャトルバスも，少ない。 今どき，温泉は，簡単に掘れるのだから，BEB５内に，掘ってほしい。 ハルニレテラスの食堂群は，最高の店ではないが，悪くはないし，価格は，BEB５に似合っている。 星野リゾートに来ると，いつも，星野のハイテンションに浮かされてしまっている，自分がいる。

I had a horrible night in this hotel that started from the moment I arrived. (1) The ”forest view” rooms are actually a view right over the parking lot, and they intentionally don't show this on the website. So you have an open air bath on your balcony in full view of the parking lot. I never complain, but I asked for a different room because it was so horrible. The woman first said they had no rooms, so I said I'd rather have a refund and go to a different hotel. Then she said they have another room, magically, but I had to pay $200 to change rooms. Unbelieveable. Even once I changed rooms, there's still a heavily trafficked road just in front of the hotel, so you don't feel like you are in tranquil wilderness, just feels like being in the middle of town. Awful. (2) There is no room service breakfast. The website advertises room service breakfast and the menu in the room even says there is room service for breakfast. But I asked multiple people and they all said no, sorry, I had to go to the restaurant. Having a relaxing breakfast in my room is my favorite part of staying at a nice hotel - I would not have stayed here if I had known there is no room service breakfast. (3) Because there was no room service breakfast, I had to go to the restaurant in the morning. The hotel has two wings and you have to take two elevators to go to the restaurant. I took one elevator down to the lobby, then there was a woman standing guard in front of the other elevator. She said I couldn't enter the restaurant in my slippers which were in my room. I actually had to go back up the elevator to my room and put on my boots and then go to the restaurant again. It was unbelieveable. Insanity. (4) The website shows an outdoor camp area where you can have a drink and cook smores over an open fire in the evening. At check in they told me it was closed because it had snowed the previous day. That is the perfect time to have smores outside. I was so mad about this as well because it was a big part of the reason why I chose this hotel. Overall, this hotel has almost no customer service ability. They can't fix any problem and instead are very rude with you if you nicely ask for anything. The woman who dealt with me when I didn't want the parking lot view room was extremely rude, I've never seen anything like it before. This hotel is a disaster - I highly recommend you stay away!
